  • Song for Dame vojvoda - Macedonia is Bulgarian!

Dame Gruev sent a telegram to the Bulgarian Government clearly implying that he was Bulgarian:

Letter No. 534 from the General Staff of the Second Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Region to the Bulgarian Government on the position of the insurgent Bulgarian population, requestioning military intervention from Bulgaria, September 9th, 1903, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Institute of History, Bulgarian Language Institute, Macedonia. Documents and materials, Sofia, 1978, part III, No.92: To the Esteemed Government of the Principality of Bulgaria. In view of the critical and terrible situation of the BULGARIAN POPULATION of the Monastir vilayet following the devastations and cruelties perpetrated by the Turkish troops and bashibazouks, in view of the fact that these devastations and cruelties continue systematically, and that one cannot foresee how far they will reach; in view, furthermore, of the fact that HERE EVERYTHING BULGARIAN is running the risk of perishing and being obliterated without a trace by violence, hunger and by approaching poverty, the General Staff considers it its duty to draw the attention of the Esteemed Bulgarian Government to the fatal consequences for the BULGARIAN NATION, if it fails to discharge its duty to its own brothers here in an impressive and energetic manner, made imperative by force of circumstances and by the danger threatening the common BULGARIAN HOMELAND at the present moment...

    National Anthem of Bulgaria (1947-1951):

    National Anthem of Bulgaria (1951-1964):

    Current National Anthem of Bulgaria:

Shumi Maritsa (Maritsa Rushes) was the Bulgarian national anthem from 1886 until 1947. The music was derived from the German folk song Wenn die Soldaten durch die Stadt marschieren that was very popular in Bulgaria in the mid-19th century. The original text was written by Nikola Zhivkov, a head teacher in Veles (now in the Republic of Macedonia). The lyrics were edited many times, most notably in 1912 by the poet Ivan Vazov.

  • Bulgarian Patriotic Song -

    IMRO anthem:

(Still White Danube Undulates) also known as the Botev March, is a popular Bulgarian patriotic song. The lyrics are based on that of a poem by Ivan Vazov titled ''Radetzky'' after the steamship seized by the rebels. The storyline recounts a historically accurate incident from the Bulgarian struggles against Ottoman rule, which has earned the status of modern myth for Bulgarians, to some degree due to this song. On 29 May 1876 Bulgarian revolutionary and poet Hristo Botev at the head of 205-strong company of rebels seized control of the Austro-Hungarian passenger steamship Radetzky by armed force and used it to cross the Danube from Romania to the Bulgarian territories of the Ottoman Empire in order to join the April Uprising. Dagobert Engländer, Captain of the Radetzky, later recounted that he had rarely met a man so impressive or energetic as Botev. The melody was composed by vocalist Ivan Karadzhov, according to his biography. In some performances of the song, the fourth verse is omitted.

  • Bulgaria National Anthem

Originally written and composed by a Bulgarian student in 1885, as he went off to fight in the Serbo-Bulgarian war, the song was titled Gorda Stara planina (Proudly Rise the Balkan Peaks). The original song has undergone revisions since its original composition, the latest after the fall of the communist government in 1990 where a verse not in the original song speaking of friendship with Russia was removed. As the national anthem its name comes from the first line of the chorus rather than the first line of the verse.

Porto Katsiki (Πόρτο Κατσίκι) is one of the most beautiful places in Greece. On the island of Lefkada. Most of the visitors this year are Greeks. Heard English only once. Saw also 2 Bulgarian and 2 Polish cars. Last year 80 percent of the visitors were from Bulgaria and Romania, waitor told. On arrival to Greece we had to take coronavirus test at the airport (free of charge) nothing was detected, thanks God! Before going on plane to Greece one has to do registration online and get a special scan code from Greek government. New rules. Filmed by me 09.08.20.

Greeks are the nation of God, second after the Jews. Truly pious nation (ancient churches at every corner). They were the first among pagans to take over the inheritance of the elect through Jesus Christ, whom Jews rejected (not all of course). Even the very name Euro and Europe come from the Greeks.

  • Bulgarian Artists - Zlatyu Boyadjiev /

Bulgarian painter Zlatyu Boyadjiev was born in Brezovo in 1903. In 1932 he graduated from the Academy of Art, Sofia, having studied under Tzeno Todorov (1877–1953). In 1939 he went to Italy, where he studied painting. On his return to Bulgaria, he was a founder of the ‘Baratzite’ group, along with his fellow artists Vasil Barakov (b 1902) and David Peretz (1906–82). Mainly a painter of figure compositions, portraits and landscapes, Boyadjiev experimented with different styles and techniques, ranging from a type of Impressionism to a treatment of the form in a synthesized and monumental manner (e.g. Autumn, 1921; Sofia, N.A.G.;; and Slaughtering a Pig, Christmas, 1943; Plovdiv A.G.). In 1951, due to a serious illness, his right hand and part of his body became paralysed. After two years he began to paint again, this time using his left hand. As a result, his style changed drastically. His paintings became expressive and dramatic and he paid special attention to folkloric and mythical motifs. Some of his works involve the observer in their intricate plots, while others are mystical and filled with symbolism, as in the Village of Brezovo (1959; Sofia, N.A.G.), On the Way to the Slaughterhouse (1960; Plovdiv A.G.) and Two Weddings (1972; Sofia, N.A.G.). A permanent exhibition of his work is located in his home town of Brezovo.

Der er et yndigt land” was first performed for a large gathering of Danes in 1844, and became popular quickly with the Danish people. It was adopted later that year by the Danish government as a national anthem, but not the sole national anthem. This anthem is on equal status with “Kong Christian”, which is both the national and royal anthem, however “Derer et yndigt land” is heard more often in the country. The original work has 12 verses, but only the first, third, fifth, and last verses are used as the national anthem.

When the Danish anthem is usually performed or sung, the first verse is played in its entirety, then it is followed by the last four lines of the last verse. (This is true whether the lyrics are sung or not.)

When troubled times came in Bulgaria, chaos and lawlessness reigned, our people needed an educated and intelligent man to take over the government and establish new laws and rules. That man was khan Krum. He reached an unprecedented rise because he reformed the entire status quo. An outdated and impractical form of government is currently in place and needs to be replaced. Today the king is the Bulgarian people, who are united and much stronger than any political formation.

Macedonian traditional music (starogradska muzika) performed by the orchestra Čalgii - solists on the clarinet: A. Gelevski and Tale Ognenovski

Čalgija (Macedonian language: Чалгија) is a subgenre of the old urban traditional folk music (starogradska muzika) of Republic of Macedonia.

Čalgija is performed by ensembles called Čalgii (Чалгии) with instruments such as a dajre (tambourine) and tarabuka (hourglass drum) providing percussion for ut (lute), kanun (zither), clarinet and violin.

Čalgija is an old part of the whole Macedonian folklore art (this includes the rural folkore as well) and it should not be confused with chalga (a contemporary Turbofolk music style in neighbouring Serbia and Bulgaria).

  • Bulgaria: State of emergency declared as flooding causes mayhem in south

The Bulgarian government declared a state of emergency in the Smolyan municipality, Sunday, as around 330 villages in Southern Bulgaria were left without electricity after severe flooding and snowfall.

Floods also affected the border-crossing point of Kapitan Andreevo between Bulgaria and Turkey, one of the busiest between the countries, after the road leading to Turkey was left submerged by flood water. Vehicles were diverted towards other border points, causing kilometre-long traffic jams.
