  • Freddy Cole - This Time Im Gone for Good

    4:59

Album: Singing the Blues, freddycolemusic.com Buy:
    Lyrics:
    I shoulda stayed gone
    When I left before
    Cause you do me wrong
    When we're together
    But I keep coming back
    Oh, Lord, for more

    When I leave this time
    Whoa, Lord, make sure
    It's understand that
This time, I'm gone for good
    Many times I've left you
But I couldn't stay away too long
    Thank God for the strength
That he gave to me to leave home
    And still be strong

    It's been warm outside
But for me, but for me
    There's been no sunshine
So hard for me to leave
But I finally made up my mind

    This time, baby, Lord
    I'm not gonna let you
    Worry me no more
    And this time, baby
Don't even say nothing to me
    Oh, Lord, bye, bye, baby

“I started playing piano at five or six,” Freddy recalls. “Music was all around me.” In the Chicago home of his youth, visitors included Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Lionel Hampton. He also credits Billy Eckstine as a major influence. “He was a fantastic entertainer,” Freddy recalls. “I learned so much from just watching and being around him.” After a possible career with the NFL was shelved due to a severe football related hand injury, he began playing and singing in Chicago clubs as a teenager. Although he was ready to hit the road at 18, his mother intervened and he continued his musical education at the Roosevelt Institute in Chicago.

    I loved you

Although against my will I knew I loved you
Time was standing still because I loved you
But someday I knew you would fly away
    Tomorrow
There could never be a new tomorrow
For I can only think of yesterday
    In ever way
    I loved you
    Such memories of moments
    When I loved you
I loved you but you were never mine
    A summer
A summer to remember for all time
Leaving me with tears from farewell eyes
Those precious moments saying last goodbyes
    And I loved you
    But you were never mine
    I loved you
    Such memories of moments
    When i loved you
I loved you but you were never mine
    You were never mine
    A summer
A summer to remember for all time
Leaving me with tears from farewell eyes
Those precious moments saying last goodbyes
    And I loved you
    I loved you
    I loved you
    But you were never mine

Lionel Frederick Cole (born October 15, 1931 in Chicago, IL) is an American jazz singer and pianist, whose recording career has spanned over fifty years. He is leader of the Freddy Cole Quartet, which regularly tours the US, Europe, the Far East and South America. He is the brother of musicians Nat King Cole and Ike Cole, father of Lionel Cole and uncle of Natalie Cole.

Cole began playing piano at five or six. He was interested in playing football professionally, but decided to pursue a career in music after a hand injury ended his career as an athlete. He debuted on vinyl in 1952 when he recorded the single The Joke's on Me for the obscure Chicago-based Topper Records. His next single, Whispering Grass, on Columbia's OKeh label, was a moderate hit in 1953.

  • This Love Of Mine - Freddy Cole

    6:57

This is one of the best arrangements ever of this tune composed by Hank Sanicola and Sol Parker. The lyrics were by Frank Sinatra. Sanicola was a piano player and former boxer. He served as a warm-up pianist for The Voice and doubled as his bodyguard. The two men were also very close friends and wrote this song together. It was considered a Sinatra staple and therefore untouchable by most other singers. But the song became somewhat of a jazz players favorite. Here it is given a swingin' yet warm treatment by Mr. Freddy Cole who is ably supported by the late David Fathead Newman. The arrangement is from the pen of John DiMartino. This is, as they say, as good as it gets.

    Lineup:
    Freddy Cole - vocals
David Fathead Newman - tenor sax
    John DiMartino - piano
    Derrick Hodge - bass
    Mark Taylor - drums

    Lembra de mim!
    Dos beijos que escrevi
    Nos muros a giz
    Os mais bonitos
    Continuam por lá
    Documentando
    Que alguém foi feliz...

    Lembra de mim!
    Nós dois nas ruas
    Provocando os casais
    Amando mais
Do que o amor é capaz
    Perto daqui
    Há tempos atrás...

    Lembra de mim!
    A gente sempre
    Se casava ao luar
    Depois jogava
    Os nossos corpos no mar
    Tão naufragados
    E exaustos de amar...

    Lembra de mim!
    Se existe um pouco
    De prazer em sofrer
    Querer te ver
    Talvez eu fosse capaz
    Perto daqui
    Ou tarde demais...

    Lembra de mim!...

  • Freddy Cole - I remember you

    5:09

I Remember You is a popular song, published in 1941. The music was written by Victor Schertzinger, the lyrics by Johnny Mercer.
It first appeared in the movie The Fleet's In (1942).
According to the TCM documentary Johnny Mercer: The Dream's On Me, Mercer wrote the song for Judy Garland, to express his strong infatuation with her. He gave it to her the day after she married David Rose.

    Lyrics:
    Was it in Tahiti?
    Were we on the Nile?
    Long, long ago,
    Say an hour or so
I recall that I saw your smile.

    I remember you,
    You're the one who made
    My dreams come true
    A few kisses ago.

    I remember you,
    You're the one who said
I love you, too, I do.
    Didn't you know?

    I remember, too,
    A distant bell,
And stars that fell like rain
    Out of the blue.

    When my life is through,
And the angels ask me to recall
    The thrill of them all,
    Then I shall tell them
    I remember you.

    4:13

Freddy Cole performing You Must Believe in Spring.
    A must in emotional music.
I really think this one is one of the best version of the song, and just realized it is not on the youtube. So, if you're a fan of Freddy Cole or you like these soft and warm voice, just enjoy listening!

    Lyrics:

    When lonely feelings chill
    The meadows of your mind,
    Just think if Winter comes,
    Can Spring be far behind?

    Beneath the deepest snows,
    The secret of a rose
    Is merely that it knows
    You must believe in Spring!

Just as a tree is sure
    Its leaves will reappear;
    It knows its emptiness
Is just the time of year

    The frozen mountain dreams
    Of April's melting streams,
    How crystal clear it seems,
    You must believe in Spring!

    You must believe in love
And trust it's on its way,
    Just as the sleeping rose
    Awaits the kiss of May

So in a world of snow,
Of things that come and go,
Where what you think you know,
    You can't be certain of,
You must believe in Spring and love

    INSTRUMENTAL INTERLUDE

    You must believe in love
And trust it's on its way,
    Just as the sleeping rose
    Awaits the kiss of May

So in a world of snow,
Of things that come and go,
Where what you think you know,
    You can't be certain of,
You must believe in Spring and love

You must believe in Spring and love

Shanghai Jazz opened in October 1995 and has been named One of the Top 100 Great Jazz Clubs in the World. We have earned rave reviews for our food, service and ambience from the New York Times, Star Ledger, Zagat Survey and Inside New Jersey. Our philosophy is warm hospitality, gourmet Asian cuisine inspired by the seasons, a well-focused wine list and a full bar with almost a dozen beers on tap, including our own micro-brew Shanghai Jazz Ale. And of course exceptional value. We are proud to present world class artists 6 nights a week with no music charge except for special events.

Owners Martha Chang and David Niu returned to Martha's hometown of Madison, New Jersey after traveling, working and studying in Asia with the aid of a Fulbright fellowship. Inspired by Shanghai in the 1920s and 30s, when it was known as the Paris of the Orient, we have sought to create a jazz club infused with Jazz and Joy.

At Shanghai Jazz, we are delighted and honored to share our love of Great American jazz, regional Asian specialties and fine wine with you. Whether you enjoy dim sum and cocktails in our Long Oak Bar, an intimate dinner with family and friends, or a unique social or corporate gathering, we look forward to welcoming you to our home.
