  • First Year Playing the Electric Guitar - Month by Month Progress

    8:35

I started playing the electric guitar about one year ago today when I was 22. Over the past year I've been recording many clips of things I've been learning and I thought it would be cool to share my progress for other people getting started. Most of these videos I never expected to share, so please excuse the sound and video quality :).

I've been entirely self taught learning through different resources online. I tried to play every day when I was around my guitar, but with work and other things there were some long periods where I wasn't able to play. But for the most part I've been pretty consistent.

I will be uploading many more song covers in the future, so stick around if you'd like to see more!

  • Electric Guitar Progress - First Year Playing The Electric Guitar - Self Taught

    8:10

First Year Playing The Electric Guitar - Self Taught - Beginner Guitar Progress

i started playing the electric guitar on 18 march 2016 ... its been a year since i am playing the electric guitar....i used to record some of my electric guitar progress so that i can merge all the videos and upload it as one video. so i hope this video helps u..

I went to guitar classes for about an year and due to some reasons, i had to discontinue, now I learn guitar on my own.., i learn by watching YouTube videos .... YouTube is a great place to learn guitar...there are millions of guitar tutorials out there on YouTube.... i learnt some of the songs by watching the tutorials from @Marty Music, @GuitarLessons365Song , @Andy Guitar , @The-Art-of-Guitar, @GuitarZero2Hero etc......and , I learn by watching covers of legendary guitarists like @Kfir Ochaion , @Cole Rolland , @331Erock and so on!

Sorry but i Started Uploading videos On YouTube in the month of June 2016. Till then i was recording my progress at times and learnt few songs so that i can upload it on YouTube....

Earlier , i used to play the acoustic guitar which i am learning since 8 years....so i did not find that much difficulty in learning electric guitar .....so i learnt electric guitar very easily and quickly........if u like my content...then can also subscribe to my channel to watch more videos like this.
P.S that doesn't mean that I can play electric guitar well since I can play acoustic guitar , I didn't learn acoustic guitar very well coz I did not learn much by going to classes, in the end, I learnt it by myself , so I did the same thing for the electric too! so this is a self taught guitar progress! so that's the main point where I'm going wrong.

There are many reasons why i am posting this video is even though i went to guitar classes, i did not have a proper guidance and i did not learn much, i stopped going to classes due to some reasons, since then, i am trying to learn guitar on my own! the main reason why i uploaded this video is i don't know where to begin with, i don't know where am i making mistakes, by uploading this video on YouTube, you guys can help me and guide me in the aspects where i am making mistakes, i want to know where am i going wrong, what all can be done in order to correct it,how can it be corrected and how to improvise! many of you out there are experienced guitarists so you can guide me! i will try my best to correct my mistakes :) l will try my best to read and reply to all of your comments, suggestions, improvisation tips etc! thanks in advance!

P.S. - i recorded some of the progresses in one day itself coz i did not have much time to record due to studies and other things! sorry! :)

  • Four Years Playing the Electric Guitar - Month by Month Progress

    11:14

This is my progress throughout my first four years playing the electric guitar! I started playing guitar in Jan 2016 as an adult beginner and I've been entirely self-taught with the help of the internet. Throughout this time I've also been working a full-time job in addition to learning guitar and making videos.

This year I decided to include an approximately equal number of clips from each year to give a better idea of what I chose to learn over time. There are many other clips I couldn't fit into this video, so check out my previous progress videos if you are interested in seeing more!

I think one of the things I improved most this year was actually my ear! I've been working a lot on learning by ear and I plan to continue to do so going forward. The solo at the end of the video is also a big milestone for me. It's one I attempted a long time ago but gave up on and then decided to try again this year. It was a challenge for me to get it up to speed and, while there is still room for improvement, I feel a lot more confident now in my bends and hammer-ons/pull-offs :).

  • 1 Year Electric Guitar Progress - How good can you get in a year?

    8:13

This is my 1 year of learning guitar journey, learning self taught online and through lessons later on.

I started one year ago, August 2018, when I bought my first electric guitar after wanting one for YEARS. I always thought they were crazy expensive and as a student I was not able to buy one.

One day I realized you could get a second hand guitar for less than 50 dollars so I finally got one. I got it for 40 dollars with an amp included.
It wasn't the best sounding guitar gear but hey, at least I could play now.

I started and as you know at the beginning it is quite slow. My first 3 months I didn't even that much of techniques or music education, I just wanted to be able to play some riffs.

Starting 2019, I got enrolled in guitar lessons at my university, which gave me motivation to start playing every single day for 10 minutes at least, in the video you can see that after this point I really started to get better.

After some months, I bought a better amp but not expensive, a Fender Frontman 25R, also second hand for 80 dollars. That improved the audio quality significantly.

From May to date, I've been in summer break from college and I've been practicing for 2+ hours every day, including online lessons through JustinGuitar and a daily routine that I organized this way: warming up, 2 justin guitar lessons, practice 2 techniques (tremolo picking, bends, scales, etc), learn a new song, and free play.

This system previously mentioned has gotten me great results this last months. Now I'm way more confident when I play overall.

So this is my 1 year story, I hope you liked it.

Subscribe and wait for the 2 year video!

  • Three Years Playing the Electric Guitar - Month by Month Progress

    8:52

Here is my progress throughout my first three years playing the electric guitar! I started playing guitar in January 2016 as an adult beginner and I've been entirely self-taught through the help of the internet. Since I already have 1 and 2 year progress videos, this one focuses more on year 3. I think the thing I progressed most at this year was starting to figure out how to use the guitar more creatively to express myself :).

I played almost every day when I was able to, usually for an hour or more. However, I have been dealing with an on and off nerve injury in a fretting hand finger, so I was forced to take probably a little over a month off over the course of the year.

  • My Guitar Progress: Age 4 to the Present Day

    5:10

Since I started teaching guitar, I am often asked questions like:
How long have you been playing guitar? How did I practice? Did I have formal lessons? First guitar? First riffs?

And in this video, I wanted to show you my guitar playing journey to the fullest extent I can based on the footage we have stored in the Cooper family archives. The point of this video to convey that it takes time, patience, resilience, self-discipline to achieve what you aspire to be on any musical instrument.

I also wanted to finally announce in this video that my band has now been formed... Lake Domain, and we plan to release material in Spring 2020. Stay at the time of writing I am doing my last minute packing before my flight to Gothenburg tomorrow where myself and the Singer, Jo Mansson will be mixing the tracks.

  • ???? Electric Guitar | The Struggle is REAL.

    8:22

I've been playing acoustic guitar for years & still am! But, I am putting in the time this year to work on my electric guitar skills. This is something I've wanted to do for a long time & I'm finally going for it.

I definitely have a lot to learn & a lot of practice ahead of me, but I am so motivated & excited to see where this goes! (I almost feel like a beginner guitarist again, haha.) It's never to late to start something new. :)

Hey! My name is Michelle and I go by the persona “Guitar Goddess.” Easier to remember, right? I teach beginner/intermediate guitar lessons here on YouTube because I have a passion for both music and for helping people. My goal is to inspire & motivate people like YOU all over the world to reach their guitar goals and push through the struggles without giving up. Subscribe to become a part of the Guitar Goddess Community!

To me Guitar Goddess does NOT mean “I’m the best guitarist out there.” To me, the meaning of Guitar Goddess is on a much deeper and interconnected level. Guitar Goddess is that indescribable feeling I get whenever I play my guitar. I feel beautiful, confident & positive. It's unlike anything else. I feel like it's something other guitarists can relate to. Guitar Goddess does not define my skills or my playing style and I don't think the name I chose is un-deserving in any way. In my opinion, every female guitarist should be able to call herself a Guitar Goddess no matter what style of music she plays or how experienced she is. It’s not about skill. It’s about the passion.

Welcome to lesson 1 of this Electric Guitar Starter Course!

In this lesson, I will show you how to play the two easiest power chords on guitar. We will then learn an easy riff and play it along to a rock style backing track!

Remember, with power chords, you can play two or three strings without changing the sound much. This is because the extra note added is the octave of the lowest note, so you're just doubling up the same note but at a higher pitch. Either 2 or 3 string power chords are generally interchangeable and are the players choice.

  • What to learn FIRST on guitar?

    13:42

If you've always wanted to learn to play guitar, but you don't know where to start, then this video is for you.

You need to decide what you want to accomplish with your playing... how far do you want to go with it? Apart from that though, you definitely need to learn some chords, a scale or two, and some theory. Songs are great - and necessary - but you need to learn more than just songs, because that approach can limit you down the road, leaving holes in your knowledge.

Learning to read music isn't necessary - in my opinion - though it can be helpful in certain situations. Today though, you don't really need that skill very much, certainly the average hobby guitar player will be able to get by very nicely indeed never reading a single note of music.

What are chords? Basically, it is a two or more notes that are combined together. When we think of chords it is basically combination of notes played simultaneously. What we are going to do is we are going to know how to read chords.

Chord charts are basically a compressed scale charts. You already know the name of the strings but what is going up here instead are which finger to use. In chords, use the first three fret for the E-minor chord (Emi). The illustration/chord charts shows the first three frets.

Another symbol to discuss is the X symbol which means you don’t play that string when forming the chord on the electric guitar.

Reading chords is quite simple because of the diagram and some numbers wherein you know what the numbers of your fingers are. With that idea in mind you should learn how to read chord. Start with some of the most important chords first and you will be able to see millions of songs playing these chords.

Some of the other that you can check is Amaj, Cmaj, Dmaj, Emaj, Cmaj9 and Gmaj. Those are the major chords that you can start to grip on. For the minor chords are the following: Ami, which is similar to Emaj wherein you will see in a chord chart that Ami really looks like Emaj, and the Emi. Those are the only two minor chords that you need to now right now because when we get to barre chords where you will learn later on after getting on the scales and riffs. Then you will learn all the minor chords across the entire guitar lesson.

Chords are massive. There are tons of songs that are based on a chord. In a lot of songs, usually, it only uses three chords in the entire song which is quiet amazing. Next thing we will be learning is a lot of songs that will be using some chords.

Discover the proven (and free) beginner guitar system to switching and strumming chords to your favourite songs on the guitar.

  • Learning How To Play Guitar Online - 1 Year Update

    10:02

This is me going over my 1 year progress of learning to play the guitar online!

When I first started learning a year ago I was TERRIBLE at playing guitar. My fingers were so weak and I had so much to learn in terms of keeping time and being able to sing and play at the same time. Surprisingly I caught on pretty quickly and decided to go over the progress I've made and outline a few of the tips I have for someone learning to play the guitar.

If you're still learning, don't give up! It's seriously so worth it when you put the time in to learn a new instrument and super fun once you get the hang of it.

    About Thaddeus Hogarth
Born in the U.K. and raised in the West Indies, Thaddeus Hogarth is an associate professor in the Guitar department at Berklee College of Music. A two-time winner of the Independent Music Award for R&B/Blues (2001, 2006), he has been a prominent guitar player and singer-songwriter on the New England music scene since 1990, when he graduated from Berklee. He leads his own group, the Thaddeus Hogarth Band, featuring David Buda on bass, Joey Scrima on drums, and David Sparr on keyboards. They have shared the bill or stage with such legends as Tower of Power, Average White Band, James Montgomery, Fred Wesley, and Johnny Winter, and were recently hand-picked to represent Bose nationwide for the launch of its revolutionary live music amplification technology.

His work also includes collaboration with the reggae legend and Grammy nominee, Sister Carol. Prior to this, Hogarth was the principal singer-songwriter and guitarist for Heavy Metal Horns, known for their original heavy hitting funk-rock grooves and full brass sound. The band released two CDs with international distribution—Heavy Metal Horns (Square Records) and Horns In The House (Polystar Japan/Danger), in addition to garnering awards such as Best New Band (Boston magazine, 1990) and Outstanding Club Act (Boston Music Awards, 1992). Since then, he has released four award-winning solo CDs and a live concert DVD, and is the author of Funk/R&B Guitar: Creative Solos, Grooves, and Sounds (Hal Leonard/Berklee Press). His music and voice can be heard worldwide in full-length and independent short feature films, commercial television, PBS, and MTV. Billboard magazine describes Hogarth's music as Soul Terra Firma, and the Boston Globe calls him a guitar virtuoso.

Discover the proven (and free) beginner guitar system to switching and strumming chords to your favourite songs on the guitar.

All it takes is 5 minutes a day. As a beginner guitarist, the most important thing for you to do is simply play everyday. Even 5 minutes (as long as it’s everyday) will cause you to progress quickly. Practising one hour of guitar one day a week won’t be as effective as daily practise.

I wish that I got this as my first guitar lesson! If you're serious about how to play electric guitar for beginners step by step, make sure you are successful in your journey by starting here.

Step by Step instructions for your first Guitar lesson. This lesson is all about the first information a beginner guitarist will need to start playing, and learning songs! Make sure that your guitar is suitable for the journey ahead, and that you can tune it with ease!

Here’s the 2 valuable points you’ll get from this lesson.

    1) Learn how to identify if your guitar has high action. Being a beginner guitar player can be tough at times. Playing your first couple songs can be really tiring on your left hand! If the strings are too high off the fretboard, It will be even harder on your left hand. We call that problem High Action. You’ll have to push your fingers really hard for a note to actually come through. If your strings are nice and close to the fretboard, the note comes through without pushing nearly as hard! Avoid being a beginner guitarist who quits out of frustration thinking their hands aren’t strong enough. You might just have high action!

    2) Before you start playing your first guitar songs, you’ll need an in-tune guitar! Learn the basics of an electronic guitar tuner in this lesson. There are tons of things that can put a guitar out of tune (Humidity, or a change in temperature just to name a few) So, tuning is one of the first skills you must learn as a beginner guitarist. Knowing how to tune your guitar also teaches the beginner guitarist a valuable lesson, the notes of each string.

Yours truly! Will Ripley (Campfire Guitar Star)

Here's the link to get the tuner:

  • 3 Year Guitar Progress With the Same Song

    6:10

Here's my electric guitar progress over 3 years learning The Trooper by Iron Maiden! I started learning this song towards the end of my first year playing guitar and kept working on it on and off over the course of the following 3 years.

Over this time, I took some long breaks from the song for various reasons (injury, travel, and just wanting to learn other songs :)) but I always came back to it! After posting the full cover I realized I had a bunch of old clips from my journey with the song and thought it would be fun to share :). Overall, I learned a lot from this song and had a ton of fun with it along the way! m/

Hey! My name is Michelle and I go by the persona “Guitar Goddess.” Easier to remember, right? I teach beginner/intermediate guitar lessons here on YouTube because I have a passion for both music and for helping people.
