  • Eric Burdon: Jamming in Los Angeles

    24:33

Eric Burdon jamming in 1972, live in Los Angeles accompanied by Jimmy Witherspoon and Johnny Almond. The rest of the band is unknown. The song they are jamming on as basis is The City, a song that Eric later called City Boy, which was released on some of his albums in the early 70s. This is a funky, jazzy, bluesy & rock performance, mixing up several songs & genres; called a jam..

Eric Victor Burdon (born 11 May 1941)[3] is an English singer-songwriter and actor. He was previously the vocalist of rock band the Animals and funk band War.[4] He is regarded as one of the British Invasion's most distinctive singers with his deep, powerful blues-rock voice. He is also known for his aggressive stage performances.[5]

In 2008, he was ranked 57th in Rolling Stone's list The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.

The Animals are an English rhythm and blues and rock band, formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in the early 1960s. The band moved to London upon finding fame in 1964. The Animals were known for their gritty, bluesy sound and deep-voiced frontman Eric Burdon, as exemplified by their signature song and transatlantic No. 1 hit single, House of the Rising Sun, as well as by hits such as We Gotta Get Out of This Place, It's My Life, I'm Crying and Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood. The band balanced tough, rock-edged pop singles against rhythm and blues-orientated album material and were part of the British Invasion of the US.

The Animals underwent numerous personnel changes in the mid-1960s and suffered from poor business management. Under the name Eric Burdon and the Animals, the much-changed act moved to California and achieved commercial success as a psychedelic and hard rock band with hits like San Franciscan Nights, When I Was Young and Sky Pilot, before disbanding at the end of the decade.[1] Altogether, the group had ten Top Twenty hits in both the UK Singles Chart and the US Billboard Hot 100.

The original lineup of Burdon, Alan Price, Chas Chandler, Hilton Valentine and John Steel reunited for a one off benefit concert in Newcastle in 1968. They later had brief comebacks in 1975 and 1983. There have been several partial regroupings of the original era members since then under various names. The Animals were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.

James Witherspoon (August 8, 1920 – September 18, 1997) was an American jump blues singer.

Johnny Almond (29 July 1946 – 18 November 2009) was a British saxophonist, who is best known for his recordings with the Alan Price Set, Fleetwood Mac, John Mayall and Mark-Almond.

    8:56

Got the Funky Fever performed live by The Eric Burdon Band in September, 1971 at the Whiskey a Go-Go in L.A., USA. They performed every Monday there around this time to check out what the people like. They played some brand new songs.

Jimmy Witherspoon appeared at the concert later. They recorded the album Guilty! (or Black and White Blues), released in 1971, after Burdon left War.

After the colloboratio with Witherspoon, the band went on to record. Their album Stop was fastly recorded, but not released until August 1975.

This is one of the last Eric Burdon performances before he stepped into the scariest musical career, ever. The albums, the films, the books, his complete work did not release for long, because of his management(s), the record label/legal problems.

Although he released two albums in 1980, recorded a new album and starred in the film wth the same name, Comeback. Both released in 1982, when he recorded the album Nightwinds Dying (released in 1998). He pleased big halls/stadiums/clubs, but he had many career problems.

In 2004, after unbelievable trouble, he signed with SPV and released My Secret Life. Since then he released a string of new and old albums. Since 2007 he's recording new songs. In January 2009 he performed with his new band. He's touring USA and Europe in the next months.
