FROM THE BEGINNING - Emerson, Lake & Palmer

    4:24

From the Beginning is a song written by Greg Lake and performed by the progressive rock trio Emerson, Lake & Palmer. It was released on their 1972 album Trilogy. It is driven by an acoustic guitar line with layers of electric guitar (both rhythm and lead), electric bass guitar, and sung by Lake, with some backing on drums (played by Carl Palmer with tympani mallets and without cymbals), and with a distinctive closing synthesizer solo from Keith Emerson, accompanied by overdubbed random synthesizer-generated effects. It hit #39 in the US and was their highest charting single.
The song was covered by the heavy metal band Dokken and Czech folk rock band Marsyas, albeit under a different name (Studená koupel) with a Czech version of the lyrics.

EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER - FROM THE BEGINNING

    8:28

EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER were a British progressive rock supergroup formed in London in 1970. The group consisted of keyboardist Keith Emerson, singer, guitarist, and producer Greg Lake, and drummer and percussionist Carl Palmer. They were one of the most popular progressive rock bands in the 1970s.
This great classic song is from the Album Trilogy (1972). Trilogy reached No. 2 in the UK and No. 5 in the US. From the Beginning, an acoustic ballad featuring an extended synthesizer solo, was released as a single which reached No. 39 in the US.
The alternate version shown here has a totally different moog synthesizer solo at the ending.

    FROM THE BEGINNING

There might have been things I missed
    But don't be unkind
    It don't mean I'm blind
Perhaps there's a thing or two
I think of lying in bed
    I shouldn't have said
    But there it is

    You see, it's all clear
You were meant to be here
    From the beginning

    Maybe I might have changed
    And not been so cruel
    Not been such a fool
    Whatever was done is done
    I just can't recall
    It doesn't matter at all

    You see, it's all clear
You were meant to be here
    From the beginning....

Cest la vie - Emerson, Lake & Palmer

    4:05

    C'est la vie - That's Life

    C'est la vie
Have your leaves all turned to brown
Will you scatter them around you
    C'est la vie
    Do you love
And then how am I to know
If you don't let your love show for me
    C'est la vie

    Oh c'est la vie
    Oh c'est la vie
Who knows, who cares for me
    C'est la vie

    In the night
Do you fight a lover's fire
Do the ashes of desire for you remain
    Like the sea
There's a love to deep to show
Took a storm before my love
    Flowed for you
    C'est la vie

    Oh c'est la vie
    Oh c'est la vie
Who knows, who cares for me
    C'est la vie

    Like a song
Out of tune and out of time
All I needed was a rhyme for you
    C'est la vie
    Do you give
Do you live from day to day
Is there is no song I can play for you
    C'est la vie

    Oh c'est la vie
    Oh c'est la vie
Who knows, who cares for me
    C'est la vie

    Emerson Lake & Palmer - Knife-Edge

    7:19

The supergroup Emerson, Lake & Palmer is one of most successful rock bands in the subgenre of the Progressive rock. The band members Keith Emerson (keyboards), Greg Lake (bass guitar) and Carl Palmer (drums) showed their musical virtuosity in interpretations of classical pieces like Pictures of an Exhibiton by Russian composer Modest Mussorgski. The live album with the same title, which was issued as a low-priced record in 1970, helped the band to enormous popularity in Europe and USA. The song Knife-Edge from their debut album Emerson, Lake & Palmer is loosely based on Leoš Janáček Sinfonietta (1926). And the middle section of the song features parts of Johann Sebastian Bachs First French Suite in D minor (known as Bach Works Catalogue No. 812). Ironically both composers were not named on the original album release in 1970 ...

What can I say, she's walking away
    From what we've seen
What can I do, still loving you
    It's all a dream

How can we hang on to a dream
How can it ever be the way it seems

What can I do, she's saying we're through
    With how it was
What will I try, I still don't see why
    She says what she does

    29:36

I do not own this song. Epic track by Emerson, Lake & Palmer taken from their 1973 album Brain Salad Surgery.
It's a three part epic fiction story.
1st Impression: 0:00 - 13:22 (It was split in the original LP beacuse it was too long for one side of the album, the first impression was split around 8:42)
    2nd Impression: 13:23 - 20:00
    3rd Impression: 20:31 - 29:37
Each part has its own style, and it's a beautiful track to listen.
    Enjoy!

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Tarkus

    9:21

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Tarkus
From album of group ELP Tarkus - 1971.
ELP: Keith Emerson, Greg Lake & Karl Palmer.

    I. STONES OF YEARS
Has the dawn ever seen your eyes?
Have the days made you so unwise?
    Realize, you are.
Had you talked to the winds of time,
Then you'd know how the water rhyme.
    Taste of wine,
How can you know where you've been?
In time you'll see the sign,
    And realize your sin.
Will you know how the seed is sown?
All your time has been overgrown,
    Never known.
Have you walked on the stones of years?
When you speak, is it you that hears?
    Are your ears full?
You can't hear anything at all.

    II. MASS
    The preacher said a prayer,
Save ev'ry single hair on his head.
    He's dead.
The minister of hate had just arrived too late to be spared.
    Who cared?
The weaver in the web that he made!
    The pilgrim wandered in,
Commiting ev'ry sin that he could
    So good...
The cardinal of grief was set in his belief he'd saved
    From the grave
The weaver in the web that he made!
The high priest took a blade
To bless the ones that prayed,
    And all obeyed.
The messenger of fear is slowly growing, nearer to the time,
    A sign.
The weaver in the web that he made!
    A Bishop rings a bell,
A cloak of darkness fell across the ground,
    Without a sound!
The silent choir sing and in their silence,
    Bring jaded sound, harmonic ground.
The weaver in the web that he made!

    III. BATTLEFIELD
Clear the battlefield and let me see
All the profit from our victory.
You talk of freedom, starving children fall.
Are you deaf when you hear the season's call?
Were you there to watch the earth be scorched?
Did you stand beside the spectral torch?
Know the leaves of sorrow turned their face,
Scattered on the ashes of disgrace.
Every blade is sharp; the arrows fly
We're the victims of your armies lie,
Where the blades of grass and arrows rain
Then there will be no sorrow,
    Be no pain.

The concert set a record for the largest number of paid attendance at such an event. Although more people attended the festival at Woodstock in New York, only a few had purchased tickets.
Another record established at California Jam was for the largest (most powerful) concert sound system ever assembled.
Tycobrahe Sound Company combined the touring systems of Black Oak Arkansas, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Earth Wind and Fire, and Rare Earth (each manufactured by Tycobrahe)[citation needed], plus 16-ft bass horns from Phoenix Sound and several folded bass horns from Flag Systems.
Total power was 54,000 watts RMS, provided by a number of BFA-2000 amplifiers, manufactured by Tycobrahe.
Emerson, Lake and Palmer's touring sound system was set up about 1/2 mile from the stage and timed with a tape delay to coincide with the sound from the stage

Emerson, Lake and Palmer - Abaddons Bolero Live in Zurich 1973 Rare footage synched

    3:33

Hello to all. Here's my latest endeavour into the world of synch. It's Emerson Lake and Palmer (ELP) live in Zurich in 1973 on the Get Me A Ladder Tour, arguably at the peak of their powers as a live band. This is also the only known footage of ELP performing this great song from Trilogy.
The 1973 European tour was represented on the Old Grey Whistle Test's Manticore Special documentary, but swiss TV also made a documentary specifically about the Zurich show. This documentary was recently rebroadcast on SRF TV and Tony Ortiz, ELP's official archivist synched the original audio from the show to the Abaddon's Bolero footage.
I've changed (corrected) a few things here and there and I also synched the shots from the second camera; they are included in splitscreen mode.

This footage is an absolute godsend. Footage from my favorite ELP tour, of my favorite ELP song performed by the strangest instrument configuration ELP ever thought up (Greg and Keith on keyboards).

The audio is from the night as can be seen on the announcement at the end.

Enjoy! I'll also be making a DVD of this and the full documentar and upload it to YEESHKUL!, a great bootleg site.
