  • ELO - Telephone Line - 720p

    4:57

This clip is from Zoom Tour Live a one-off concert performed by the Electric Light Orchestra recorded originally for television, later released as a film
The song is track two on their 1976 album, A New World Record, and was the final single to be released from the album until September 2006, when Surrender was released from the expanded reissue of the album. It became their biggest single success in the US and was their first UK gold award for a single. With ELO's continuing success in America it seemed obvious to Jeff Lynne to use an American ring tone during the song.[3] Writer/guitarist, Lynne explained:

“ To get the sound on the beginning, you know, the American telephone sound, we phoned from England to America to a number that we know nobody would be at, to just listen to it for a while. On the Moog, we recreated the sound exactly by tuning the oscillators to the same notes as the ringing of the phone. ”
The song charted in the Top Ten in both the UK and the US, peaking at number 8 in the UK[4] and number 7 in the US.[5] The tune was on the Hot 100 for 23 weeks, nearly a full month longer on that chart than any other ELO tune. Billboard ranked it as the No. 15 song of 1977. In 1977, the song would reach number 1 in New Zealand and Canada. Telephone Line and Meri Wilson's Telephone Man were back-to-back on Hot 100's top 40 for two non-consecutive weeks in the summer of 1977.[6]

As was the norm, many ELO singles were issued in different colours, but the US version of this single was the only green single ELO issued. It became the band's first single to achieve Gold sales figures.

  • ELO Masterpieces Vol. 1

    1:13:08

IMPORTANT: Please be aware that YouTube's software (NOT me) has muted all but a few seconds at the end of track #6 (Waterfall instrumental), all of track #7 (Waterfall), and parts of track #14 (the remix of Shine A Little Love) - if I didn't agree to have them sloppily mute those three tracks, they would block the entire playlist! So, please know that the choppiness you hear on those tracks is not a technical shortcoming of my playlist; rather, it's the result of YouTube's incompetent enforcement of some clearly dubious copyright laws.

    Dear Subscribers and First-Time Listeners:

As I alluded to it above, we channel owners are at the mercy of what YouTube's inconsistent copyright-checking software allows/blocks, with no live operators to file complaints with. As such, their software continues to block all my attempts to publicly post my follow-up playlist to this Vol. 1 (which is my 22-track ELO Masterpieces Vol. 2); even though Vol. 2 contains many pieces from the same albums that you'll also hear here in Vol. 1. Rest assured, however, that I will continue to press YouTube to publicly post my Vol. 2 - I just wish I had a person to present my case to, rather than their cheap shoddy software that one cannot speak to or argue with.

Here are some rare ELO gems from 1972 thru 1986 (the golden era of ELO, one might say). I have sequenced 15 ELO tracks from that wonderful era into a single gapless 73-minute program, using my unique song-blending techniques as well as featuring some rare remixes. Here are the tracks along with hot links referring to their approximate start times within the video:

    1. Sorrow About To Fall (Efimenko Remix) 0:00
    2. All Over The World (2ert Remix) 3:58
    3. Tightrope (Instrumental) 8:25
    4. Daybreaker 13:15
    5. New World Rising 16:45
    6. Waterfall (Instrumental) 20:47 (Most of this track muted due to copyrights)
    7. Waterfall 24:51 (All of this track muted due to copyrights)
    8. Heaven Only Knows (Alternate Version) 28:58
    9. Calling America (Hardy's Remix) 31:44
    10. Eldorado Instrumental Medley 39:14
    11. Evil Woman (LaCroix Disco Mix) 46:49
    12. Here Is The News (Eniac Instrumental Mix) 51:53
    13. On The Run 55:44
    14. Shine A Little Love (DJ Lee's 2013 Remix) 59:39 (Parts of this track muted due to copyrights)
    15. Don't Bring Me Down (DJ Nitro Remix) 1:07:12

Please note that I am all about the music, and as such I've tried to keep you focused on the wonderful music and unique blends rather than distract you with fancy video work. This is why the video is merely a slideshow of the album covers that these tracks originally appeared on.

If you enjoy this unique playlist, I ask that you spread the word about my young, novel music channel. A single gapless and properly-equalized playlist like this takes me many hours to create, and many MORE hours to perfect. I ASSURE you, there is nothing even remotely resembling my playlists anywhere on YouTube. So, grab a drink, kick back, and enjoy :)

The Electric Light Orchestra are one of the most successful British bands of all time. Formed after the break up of The Move in 1970 they pioneered the integration of orchestral instruments into pop music and released a series of groundbreaking and increasingly successful albums through the seventies that culminated in the multi-million selling Out Of The Blue. This concert is from the world tour for that album and was filmed at London's Wembley Arena in 1978.
The whole of this incredible concert is available on special edition DVD Out of the Blue - Live at Wembley, out now on Eagle Vision.

    3:11

This week (31st January 2020!) Jeff Lynne's ELO have announced a European tour for October of this year. The band will play seven UK and Irish shows on the From Out Of Nowhere tour, kicking off with a pair of London performances before heading off to Birmingham, Manchester, Belfast, Dublin and Glasgow. The band have also confirmed a further seven shows in mainland Europe, starting in September. They will do a show in the Ziggodome in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on October 2, 2020.

The audiences in the UK and Europe were so good, says Lynne. We're looking forward to bringing a new show and some musical surprises this fall. I can’t wait!
Tickets went on sale Friday January 31 at 9am.

Can't Get It Out of My Head is a song written by Jeff Lynne and originally recorded by Electric Light Orchestra (also known as ELO). First released on the band's fourth album 'Eldorado' in September 1974, the song is the second track on the album and follows Eldorado Overture. The song was released in November the same year as a single.
The song became the band's first top 10 single in the United States, reaching number 9 and helped boost public awareness of the band in the U.S.; however, back in the UK the single and LP failed to chart. In 1978, it was included as the lead song on the four-track The ELO EP (UK release), reaching number 34 on the UK charts. The song has appeared on many ELO compilation albums.
The song reached #19 on the Dutch Top 40 chart on 15 March 1975.

This is what says about the video:
'There was a promo video for 'Can't Get It Out Of My Head' produced that features the band miming to the single version of the song. It starts off showing the exterior of an English building on Forshaw Heath Lane in Birmingham, then zooms into a small building beside the main building that is marked Forshaw Heath Social Centre Hall and fades to show the band playing in a very small room, as if the band is playing inside the building (although they may likely be on a sound stage). It's a very small, crowded room and there is no room for the band to move about. Each band member except Hugh McDowell is wearing a t-shirt with a logo for Avro's Toppop; Bev and Richard's are red while all the others' are yellow. Hugh, who had apparently just rejoined the band, is instead wearing a blue long sleeve shirt, but an Avro's Toppop sticker is clearly attached to his white cello and it gets several close-ups in the video. Avro's Toppop was a TV show from the Netherlands, modeled after the UK's Top Of The Pops, and presumably they were the sponsors of the video. Both Jeff and Kelly are wearing black shirts over their t-shirts, with Jeff's also having a print of large white wings across the chest and shoulders, which would make an appearance many more times in the following years. It's the first appearance of Mik Kaminski playing his famous blue violin and it's also the first appearance of a quite nervous looking Kelly Groucutt in the band.

This original Toppop video was recorded in Forshaw Heath Social Centre Hall in Forshaw Heath Lane in Birmingham, Lynne's home town, 14 February 1975.

(Featured in a hilarious scene in the Adam Sandler movie Billy Madison)

    Lyrics:

    Hello. How are you?
Have you been alright, through all those
lonely lonely lonely lonely lonely nights
That's what I'd say. I'd tell you everything
If you'd pick up that telephone
    yeah yeah yeah

    Hey. How you feelin?
    Are you still the same?
Don't you realize the things we did, we did, were all for real, not a dream?
    I just can't believe
They've all faded out of view
    yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

    Blue days, black nights

    I look into the sky
(the love you need ain't gonna see you through)
    And I wonder why
(the little things you planned ain't coming true)

Oh oh Telephone Line, give me some time
    I'm living in twilight
Oh oh Telephone Line, give me some time
    I'm living in twilight

    Ok. So no one's answering
Well can't you just let it ring a little longer longer longer
    oh oh ooohhhhh

I'll just sit tight through shadows of the night
And let it ring for evermore
    Oh oh ooohhhhh
    yeah yeah yeah

    Blue days, black nights

    I look into the sky
(the love you need ain't gonna see you through)
    And I wonder why
(the little things you planned ain't coming true)

Oh oh Telephone Line, give me some time
    I'm living in twilight
Oh oh Telephone Line, give me some time
    I'm living in twilight
Oh oh Telephone Line, give me some time

Beautiful actual video of space, nebula, galaxies stars. Set to the music of Electric Light Orchestra. Lyrics are on the screen and I apologize if the timing is off a bit at times, but you try making a lyric video to this particular song - not easy and it was one of the first that I had made of this type. Also the lyrics provided did not always match what Jeff Lynne and the band were singing from what my ears heard, but hey, I did my best. Enjoy. Please Subscribe. :)

  • ELO Hollywood Bowl Sunday HD Telephone Line

    4:53

Jeff Lynne's ELO at the Hollywood Bowl, Sept 9-11, 2016. Accompanied by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, conducted by Thomas Wilkins.

The videos from way back show the light show but it was a challenge to get my video app focus to behave at times, especially on Sunday for some reason.. live and learn! Ignore the bad stretches of video and enjoy the audio!
