Earl Thomas Conley performing Holding Her & Loving You

    Lyrics:
It's the third hardest thing I'll ever do
    Leavin' here without you
And the second hardest thing I'll ever do
    Is tellin' her about you
    She's been good to me
    When things were goin' rough
How can I tell her now: good ain't good enough?
Oh, the hardest thing I've ever had to do
Is holding her, and loving you
If she'd give me one good reason, I'd be gone
She ain't done one thing wrong
So don't expect me to just walk out of the door
I still love her, but I love you more
    She's been good to me
    When things weren't goin' right
She made my days long before you made my nights
So, the hardest thing I've ever had to do
Is holding her, and loving you
Yeah, the hardest thing I'll ever have to do
Is holding her, and loving you
Girl, the hardest thing I'll ever have to do
Is holding her, and loving you

  • What Id Say by Earl Thomas Conley

    3:54

This song is filled with such anguish! There is so much pain, so much unfathomnable hurt and a red-hot passionate aching. I fell in love with it instantly the very first time I came across this song; and the moment I learnt how to upload music, I had no doubt in my mind that one day, I *will* put this in my channel!

Taken from the 1989 album, 'The heart of it all'.

    **Lyrics**

    What I'd Say
    Earl Thomas Conley

    Talkin to the mirror
    Whisperin your name
Just like you were here, you'd think I was insane
I hold these conversations in the silence of my room
Rehearsing all the things I'd say should I run into you

Hows it going might be what I'd say
You broke my heart you know
Or it looks like rain today
Or maybe god I missed you since you went away
    Your lookin well
Or go to hell might be what I'd say

There's times I feel so angry I'd put my fist right through the wall
Then there's times I've come so close to giving you a call
I love you and I hate you all at the same time
I pray that you'll come back to me before I lose my mind

Hows it going might be what I'd say
You broke my heart you know
Or it looks like rain today
Or maybe god I missed you since you went away
    You're lookin well
Or go to hell might be what I'd say

Guess you'll have to wait until that day
To find out what I'd say

God I missed you since you went away
    You're looking well
    Or go to hell
    Might be what I'd say..

    3:30

Earl Thomas Conley performing Nobody Falls Like A Fool

    Lyrics:
    A heart isn't blind
It just sees what it wants to see
I hope yours is lookin' at mine
The way that you're lookin' at me
    Well I've been around
    I've taken chances before
But this time I'm hopin' for more
    You're makin' it easy
    CHORUS:
    Nobody falls like a fool
    Nobody loves like a believe
After so many dreams have fallen through
It's time that one came true
    Nobody falls like a fool
    Nobody loves like a believer
And I'm fallin' 'cause I believe in you
    I know you're afraid
Of the words we have spoken
There's been so many promises made
    And so many broken
Oh but please don't hold back
    I've already opened the door
& this time I'm hopin' for more
    You're makin' it easy
    (repeat chorus & fade)

  • We believe in happy ending - Emmylou Harris & Earl Thomas Conley

    3:39

Who can tell just how it starts
    Angry words and broken hearts

    Till silently we sit apart
    You and I

But in awhile the anger's gone
And we forget who's right or wrong

Then one of us will end it all
    With just a smile

    We believe in happy endings
    Never breaking Only bending

    Taking time enough for mending
    The hurt inside

    We believe in new beginnings
    Giving in And forgiving

    We believe happy endings
    You and I

Just a word is all it takes
And so it pass The silence breaks

And looking back it makes us ache
    For what we've done

And so we cling together now
And wonder why we're oh so proud

    When all that matters anyhow
    Is our love

    We believe in happy endings
    Never breaking Only bending

    Taking time enough for mending
    The hurt inside

    We believe in new beginnings
    Giving in And forgiving

    We believe in happy endings
    You and I

  • Earl Thomas Conley - Angel In Disguise

    3:56

Earl Thomas Conley - Angel In Disguise

Earl Thomas Conley (born October 17, 1941, in Washington, Ohio) is an American country music singer and composer. Between 1980 and 2003, he recorded ten studio albums, including seven for the RCA Records label. In the 1980s and into the 1990s, Conley also charted more than thirty singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, of which eighteen reached Number One.

When Conley was 14, his father lost his job, forcing the young boy to move in with his older sister. He was offered a scholarship to an art school, but rejected it in favor of joining the U.S. Army. After being honorably discharged from the military, he began playing in clubs in Nashville, Tennessee, at night, supporting himself working blue-collar jobs during the day.

Feeling that he wasn't making any progress in Nashville, Conley moved to Huntsville, Alabama to work in a steel mill. There, he met record producer Nelson Larkin, who helped him sign with independent record label GRT in 1974. Conley released four singles on that label, none of which became large hits. At the same time, he was selling songs that he had written to other artists, including Conway Twitty and Mel Street, who were having much success with them.

Conley returned to Nashville, now writing for Nelson Larkin's publishing house. In 1979, he signed a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records. Two years later, he had his first Top 40 hit, Dreamin's All I Do. He left the label in 1979 and joined Sunbird Records, where he again worked with Nelson Larkin. This time, Conley found success, with a Top Ten and a Number One single within the next two years. He continued to have success over the next few years, and in 1983, he was nominated for multiple Grammy Awards for his song Holdin' Her and Lovin' You. He set a record the following year as the first artist in any genre to have four Number One singles from the same album. Conley also appeared on Soul Train in 1986, the first and only country artist to do so.

By the end of the 1980s, Conley began collaborating with Randy Scruggs (son of legendary country singer Earl Scruggs), in the hopes that he could bring his music back to his country roots. His record sales began to drop in the 1990s, as country music took a more pop turn, and Conley was dropped from his record label in 1991. He continued to tour throughout the 1990s, but was without a recording contract for most of that time. He began recording again in 1998.
