  • Donny Hathaway - I Love You More Than Youll Ever Know

    5:28

Donny Edward Hathaway (October 1, 1945 -- January 13, 1979) was an American soul musician.

Hathaway contracted with Atlantic Records in 1969 and with his first single for the Atco label, The Ghetto, Part I in early 1970, Rolling Stone magazine marked him as a major new force in soul music. His collaborations with Roberta Flack scored high on the charts and won him the Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for the duet, Where Is the Love in 1973. Six years later, his body was found outside the luxury hotel Essex House in New York City; his death was ruled a suicide.

    Lyrics

If I ever leave you....you can say I told you so!
And if I ever hurt you baby..... you know I hurt myself as well.

Is that any way for a man to carry on
Do you think I want my loved one gone
    Said I love you
    More than you'll ever know
    More than you'll ever know

When I wasn't making much money
You know where my paycheck went
You know I brought it home to baby
And I never spent a red cent

Is that any way for a man to carry on
Do you think I want my loved one gone
    Said I love you
    More than you'll ever know
    More than you'll ever know

    I'm not trying to be
    just any kind of man
I'm just trying to be somebody
You can love, trust and understand
I know that I can be
    yeaaahhhh
A part of you that no one else could see

I just wanna hear,a hear ya say
    its allright
    yeahhh yeahhh

    I'm only flesh and blood
But I can be everything that you demand
I can be king of everythang
Or just a tiny grain of sand

Is that anyway for a man to carry on
Do you think he wants his little loved one gone
I love you baby, i love you baby
i love youMore than you'll ever know

If I ever leave you....you can say I told you so!
And if I ever hurt you ..... you know I hurt myself as well.

Is that anyway for a man to carry on
Do you think he wants his little loved one gone
I treid to tell ya I love you baby, i love you baby
    yea i love you baby
i love you More than you'll ever know

    i love you
    i love you
    i love you baby!!

i told you so many times before
    I love you
    I love

  • Donny Hathaway - Someday Well All Be Free

    4:08

Donny is no longer here, but this song gathers momentum as part of his legacy... He literally sat in the studio and cried when he heard the playback of his final mix. It's pretty special when an artist can create something that wipes them out.

'It was a spiritual thing for me... What was going through my mind at the time was Donny, because Donny was a very troubled person. I hoped that at some point he would be released from all that he was going through. There was nothing I could do but write something that might be encouraging for him.'
    - Edward Howard, lyricist Someday We'll All Be Free

    Lyrics:
Hang onto the world as it spins, around.
Just don't let the spin get you down.
    Things are moving fast.
Hold on tight and you will last.
Keep your self-respect your manly pride.
    Get yourself in gear,
    Keep your stride.
    Never mind your fears.
Brighter days will soon be here.
Take it from me someday we'll all be free
Keep on walking tall, hold you head up high.
Lay your dreams right up to the sky.
    Sing your greatest song.
And you'll keep, going, going on.
Just wait and see someday we'll all be free.
Take it from me, someday we'll all be free.
Take it from me someday we'll all be free.
Take it from me, take it from me, take it from me.

4/16/2010 -- I'm really happy to see that folks are enjoying this video. I posted this last year when I discovered this incredible artist and was sad to not find this great song on YouTube. In keeping with that spirit, I'm wondering if anyone could upload Donny's version of He's Not Heavy, He's My Brother from Songs for You, Live. I had it on CD but lost it, and would love to be able to hear it again. Cheers.

  • Donny Hathaway - Yesterday

    5:25

    yesterday

    Yesterday,
All my troubles seemed so far away,
Now it looks as though they're here to stay,
    Oh, I believe in yesterday.

    Suddenly,
I'm not half the man I used to be,
There's a shadow hanging over me,
    Oh, yesterday came suddenly.

    Why she
Had to go I don't know, she wouldn't say.
    I said,
Something wrong, now I long for yesterday.

    Yesterday,
Love was such an easy game to play,
Now I need a place to hide away,
    Oh, I believe in yesterday.

    Why she
Had to go I don't know, she wouldn't say.
    I said,
Something wrong, now I long for yesterday.

    Yesterday,
Love was such an easy game to play,
Now I need a place to hide away,
    Oh, I believe in yesterday.

    Where is the love
You said you'd give to me
    soon as you were free
    will it ever be
    Where is the love?
You told me that you didn't love him,
and you were gonna say goodbye
but if you really didn't mean it,
why did you have to lie?
    Where is the love,
you said was mine all mine, till the end of time
    was it just a lie
    where is the love
If you had had a sudden change of heart
I wish that you would tell me so
don't leave me hangin on the promises
you've got to let me know
Oh how I wish I never met you
I guess it must have been my fate
to fall in love with someone else's love
all I can do is wait
    (that's all I can do)
    yeah yeah yeah

    5:32

Listen to this beautiful and powerful duetAmy Winehouse and Donny Hathaway - I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know that was recorded separately by two music geniuses Donny Hathaway and Amy Winehouse.

Donny Edward Hathaway (October 1, 1945 -- January 13, 1979) was an American jazz, blues, soul, and gospel vocalist and musician. Hathaway contracted with Atlantic Records in 1969 and with his first single for the Atco label, The Ghetto, Part I in early 1970, Rolling Stone magazine marked him as a major new force in soul music.[1]

His collaborations with Roberta Flack scored high on the charts and won him the Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for the duet, Where Is the Love in 1973.

At the height of his career Hathaway was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and was known to not take his prescribed medication regularly enough to properly control his symptoms.[citation needed] On January 13, 1979, Hathaway's body was found outside the luxury hotel Essex House in New York City; his death was ruled a suicide.

Amy Jade Winehouse (14 September 1983 -- 23 July 2011) was an English singer-songwriter known for her deep contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres, including rhythm and blues,[2] soul, jazz[3][4] and reggae.[5] Winehouse's 2003 debut album, Frank, was a critical success in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Her 2006 follow-up album, Back to Black, led to five 2008 Grammy Awards, tying the record at that time for the most wins by a female artist in a single night, and made Winehouse the first British female to win five Grammys,[6][7] including three of the general field Big Four awards: Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.Winehouse won three Ivor Novello Awards: in 2004, Best Contemporary Song for Stronger Than Me; in 2007, Best Contemporary Song again, this time for Rehab; and in 2008, Best Song Musically and Lyrically for Love Is a Losing Game. She won the 2007 Brit Award for Best British Female artist, having also been nominated for Best British Album, with Back to Black.

After years of abusing drugs, then alcohol, Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning on 23 July 2011.
