  • The Supremes: Live @ The Hollywood Palace - You Keep Me Hangin On & Somewhere

    6:03

The Supremes perform their 8th #1 hit You Keep Me Hangin' On and Somewhere from West Side Story at The Hollywood Palace on October the 22nd, 1966.

This performance features the original (and most popular) lineup of The Supremes:
    From left to right:
    - Florence Ballard
    - Mary Wilson
    - Diana Ross

You Keep Me Hangin' On was first released 10 days before this performance on October 12th 1966 with Remove This Doubt as its b-side. The song rose to #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 (called the US Pop Singles Chart at the time) and also managed top spot on the US R&B Singles Chart. The song was written and produced by Holland-Dozier-Holland who had written and produced all the group's hits up to then also the song was put on the group's 1967 album entitled The Supremes Sing Holland-Dozier-Holland.
Here is a studio mix of the song that is different to the released version as it features much more prominent and louder backing:

Somewhere is a song from the musical West Side Story. Written by Leonard Bernstein the song has been covered by many. The Supremes not only sing it here but recorded it for their Theres A Place For Us album (which is named after the first line in the song) and also had it as part of their live set performing it on their 1965 live album The Supremes At The Copa and also sang the song live in Paris in 1965 as part of the Motortown Revue.

I hope you enjoy this wondrous performance from the REAL Dreamgirls,

    Aaaah...ah...aah...ah...
    Aaaah...ah...aah...ah...
    Aaaah...ah...aah...ah...
    Ooooh...ooh..
    Oooh...oooh...ooh...ooh...

    Aaaah...ah...aah...ah...
    Aaaah...ah...aah...ah...
    Aaaah...ah...aah...ah...
    Ooooh...ooh..
    Oooh...oooh...ooh...ooh...

If you need me, call me...
No matter where you are, no matter how far...
Just call my name, I'll be there in a hurry...
On that you can depend and never worry...

You see, my love is alive
It's like a seed, that only needs the thought of you to grow.
So if you feel the need for company,
Please, my darling, let it be me.

    Aaaah...ah...aah...ah...
    Aaaah...ah...aah...ah...
    Aaaah...ah...aah...ah...
    Ooooh...ooh..
    Oooh...oooh...ooh...ooh...

I may not be able to express the depth...
Of the love I feel for you...but a writer put it very nicely
When he was away from the one he loved.
He sat down and wrote these words:

No wind (No wind), no rain (no rain),
Nor winter's cold can stop me babe...
    (Oh, babe) baby (baby)...
    If you're my goal...

    No wind, no rain,
Can stop me, babe...if you are my goal!

    Aaaah...ah...aah...ah...
    Aaaah...ah...aah...ah...
    Aaaah...ah...aah...ah...
    Ooooh...ooh..
    Oooh...oooh...ooh...ooh...

I know, I know you must follow the sun wherever it leads
But remember if you should fall short of your desires
Remember life holds for you one guarantee:
    You'll always have me

And if you should miss my love one of these old days,
If you should ever miss the arms that used to hold you so close,
Or the lips that used to touch you so tenderly
Just remember what I told you the day I set you free

    Ain't no mountain high enough
    Ain't no valley low enough
    Ain't no river wide enough
    To keep me from you

    Ain't no mountain high enough
    Ain't no valley low enough
    Ain't no river wide enough
    To keep me from you!

    Ain't no mountain high enough
Nothing can keep me, keep me from you!

    Ain't no mountain high enough
Nothing can keep me, keep me from you!

Ain't no mountain high enough-ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wild enough-to keep me from you!

    Ain't no mountain high enough
Nothing can keep me, keep me from you!

    Nothing in this world...
Nothing in this world...can keep me from you babe!

Just call my name...I'll be there in a hurry
Just call my name...I'll be there!

    Ain't no mountain high enough
Nothing can keep me, keep me from you!

Ain't no mountain high enough (Ooooh...say it again!)
Nothing can keep me, keep me from you! (Oh, say it like you feel it!)

Ain't no mountain high enough (No wind, no rain)
Nothing can keep me, keep me from you! (Can stop me now!)

    Ain't no mountain high enough
Nothing can keep me, keep me from you!

Keep falling in and out of love
In search for what I'm dreaming of
I long to find a love I'm sure about
That certain kind of love that moves all doubts
Keep falling in and out of love
Still searchin' for that special one
To whom I can give my love completely
And feel a lasting love so sweetly
Just when I feel sure love's here to stay
It seems to suddenly just fade away
Can't seem to find that everlasting love
That this heart of mine needs so much of
Keep falling in and out of love
Can't seem to find the lasting kind
It seems I can't find the joy I need
Love always somehow all goes wrong for me
Keep falling in and out of love
Keep falling in and out of love
I keep reaching out for tenderness
Touching a hand that holds emptiness
I'm looking for a love that lingers on
Long after that first kiss is gone
That kind of love that keeps burning bright
    Long after we've said goodnight
Keep falling in and out of love
In search for what I'm dreaming of
Keep falling in and out of love...

  • Diana Ross and The Supremes - No Matter What Sign You Are Ed Sullivan Show - 1969

    3:00

Diana Ross and The Supremes delivered this great performance of this single from the Let The Sunshine In album on The Ed Sullivan Show. Unfortunately this is the only performance ever recorded of this song, it was another Top 40 for the girls, peaking at #31 on the Billboard Charts. This is one of my favorite tracks from that album!
