    (Written by Marty Robbins).

Issued ONLY on LP All The Hits by Jo Ann Campbell (1962).

Recorded Circa 12 September 1962 Bell Sound Studio,237 West 54th. Street,NYC - Jo Ann Campbell (vcl solo)
Arranged & Conducted by Roy Straigis

    Born in Jacksonville,FL 20 July 1938

Campbell began attending music school at the age of four, and won many honors as a drum majorette at Fletcher High School. In 1954 she travelled Europe as a dancer, then moved to New York, where she joined the Johnny Conrad Dancers and made several television appearances on shows such as The Milton Berle Show and The Colgate Comedy Hour.

In 1956, Campbell decided to quit dancing and become a singer. She received her first recording contract with RKO-Point Records in New York and released her debut single Where Ever You Go / I'm Coming Home Late Tonight with them in 1956. It was unsuccessful and she then signed a recording contract with Eldorado Records after performing at Harlem's Apollo Theater. She wrote and released her second single, Come On Baby in 1957. Later that year she released Wait A Minute, and appeared at the Brooklyn Paramount and on Dick Clark's American Bandstand show.

Campbell appeared in two films: Go, Johnny, Go (1959) and Hey, Let's Twist (1962), while continuing to release records. In June 1961 she reached No. 41 in the UK Singles Chart with Motorcycle Michael.[1] She had her biggest hit in August 1962 with I'm The Girl From Wolverton Mountain, an answer record to Claude King's Wolverton Mountain. Some pressings showed the title as (I'm The Girl On) Wolverton Mountain. The song reached No. 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In April 1963, she followed up with Mother, Please! (I'd Rather Do It Myself), a take-off on an Anacin television commercial of the day, but this reached No. 88.

After marrying Atlantic Records record producer Troy Seals in 1964, Campbell left the music industry.

    Classic 1976

    Ella te va a agarrar.

    He tenido mala suerte

    * Coro
    Ella es una mujer diablo
Con el mal en su mente
Cuidado con la mujer del diablo
    Ella te va a agarrar

    (Repeat chorus)

    Mantenerse despierto
    Mirar hacia fuera
Si estás en una noche de luna
Tenga cuidado con los perros callejeros barrio

  • Cliff Richard ~ Devil Woman 1976 Disco Purrfection Version

    7:47

Harry Rodger Webb, better known as Cliff Richard, is the third top selling British pop star ever. Beginning in the mid 50's, he became a household name with his backing band The Shadows who adopted a rock style in the vein of Elvis Presley and Little Richard. They dominated the British charts until the arrival of the Beatles in 1964. After a run of 23 consecutive top ten British hits, the streak ended in 1965 with the #12 peak of On My Word. The changing musical landscape led him to acting where he appeared in several films, in addition to his recording career. Never a musical force in the US until Devil Woman, he performed several songs for the Eurovison music festival. Religion became a stabilizing force in his life, which led to his change of mind in releasing Honky Tonk Angels in 1976. The song was recorded and pressed, with about a 1000 copies released when Richard became aware that Honky Tonk Angels was a US euphemism for prostitutes and ordered the recall. He had even recorded a video to support the single, which you can see here Vinyl copies of the single are now collector's items. After that, his label sought to return him to his rock and roll roots and production began on I'm Nearly Famous. Many US based rock and rollers were heralding his return to his roots and Devil Woman was released which peaked at #6. Finally arriving on the US charts he continued his streak with 1979's We Don't Talk Anymore and then into the 80's with Carrie, Dreamin, A Little In Love and a duet with Olivia Newton John Suddenly from Xanadu, Give A Little Bit More and his final chart appearance, Daddy's Home in 1982. Throughout the 90's to date he has continued to record with artists like Percy Sledge, Ashford and Simpson, Roberta Flack, Freda Payne, Peabo Bryson, Brenda Holloway and Candi Staton. He has received numerous awards for his accomplishments, but has been snubbed by UK music programmers due to his uncool persona and music. This unfortunate situation would have him compared to various beautiful music vocalists, which is patently unfair and untrue. A trooper in the true sense of the word, he performed at his own 70th birthday bash on October 23, 2010. We may yet get another pop hit out of him, who knows? He has had more comebacks than a season of Frasier. He just released his 100th album this year, The Fabulous Rock & Roll Album, a return to his 50's persona. You can hear a sampling of the album here on YouTube

    Cliff Richard - Devil Woman

I've had nothing but bad luck
Since the day I saw the cat at my door
So I came into you sweet lady
    Answering your mystical call

    Crystal ball on the table
    Showing the future, the past
Same cat with them evil eyes
And I knew it was a spell she cast

    She's just a devil woman
    With evil on her mind
    Beware the devil woman
    She's gonna get you...
    She's just a devil woman
    With evil on her mind
    Beware the devil woman
She's gonna get you from behind...

Give me the ring on your finger
Let me see the lines on your hand
I can see me a tall dark stranger
Giving you what you hadn't planned

I drank the potion she offered me
I found myself on the floor
Then I looked in those big green eyes
And I wondered what I came there for...

    She's just a devil woman
    With evil on her mind
    Beware the devil woman
    She's gonna get you...
    She's just a devil woman
    With evil on her mind
    Beware the devil woman
She's gonna get you from behind...

If you're out on a moonlight night
Be careful of them neighbourhood strays
Of a lady with long black hair
Tryin' to win you with her feminine ways

    Crystal ball on the table
    Showing the future, the past
Same cat with them evil eyes
You'd better get out of there fast...

    She's just a devil woman
    With evil on her mind

One of the best versions of a Marty Robbins song you can hear in my opinion. Trini Lopez was a big star in the early 60's having hits like 'If I Had A Hammer' and 'Lemon Tree.' He also appeared in the movie 'The Dirty Dozen', then his career seemed to level out somewhat.

Devil Woman is a story of passion, betrayal, and obsession. While that sounds like a movie trailer, the feelings are real. It's the journey of two people whose love has been dragged through the mud, yet they can't move on. Listen to the organ in the chorus, it's just as driving as it is haunting.

    You're a devil woman,
    you're an evil soul.
You know I don't want to baby,
    yet I love you so.

Baby the way that you bend,
I could go straight to hell for the thoughts in my head.
    I missed your touch,
    more than you know.
I'd stay away but you're ready to go.

    I feel your body,
    when you're near.
    I know you know,
    you're my only fear.

    We never go once,
    we rarely stop at twice.
    I'd hold you longer,
    but you're fire and ice.

    You're a devil woman,
    you're an evil soul.
You know I don't want to baby,
    yet I love you so.

I've been dragged through the mud for days,
yet your scent still lingers and intoxicates.
    I have lost my mind,
    did you save the date?
I am flipped upside down and I'm waiting.
Till you swing back my way and re-appear.
    You say you're gone,
    I can feel you near.
    Your voice is so lovely,
    I love it my dear.
My spine shivers nice as you roar in my ear cause.

    You're a devil woman,
    you're an evil soul.
You know I don't want to baby,
    yet I love you so.
