  • Rig Rundown - Seethers Shaun Morgan and Dale Stewart

    16:27

    Article & photos:

PG’s John Bohlinger hung with Shaun Morgan and Dale Stewart of Seether during a bone-crushingly loud rehearsal in Nashville as the band geared up for another tour.

Morgan exclusively plays his signature Schecter models. This rock ’n’ roll machine features a mahogany body, a single Duncan-designed pickup and a volume control. The Schecters are strung with Ernie Ball Beefy Slinky (.011–.054) for drop tunings and Ernie Ball Paradigm .011–.048. Morgan uses Dunlop 1 mm Tortex Fin picks.

Both in the studio and on tour, Dale Stewart plays his Schecter Diamond signature model. These basses feature a mahogany body and two EMG 35HZ pickups, and are strung with
Ernie Ball Power Slinky (.055-.110) strings.

  • Dale Stewart - Water Wars

    4:09

Since the first Spanish Mission diverted water from the San Diego River in 1770 till today, California's water wars have been raging. And who gets access to this most precious resource has been an ongoing battle.

Today, an ever-growing population must compete with agriculture and industry for an unpredictable resource. There must be thoughtful decisions that are fair to all. A reasonable balance between the health of the environment and the needs of business must be struck. And, I think that is what is happening in the courts. But, public opinion is being shaped by forces that are less than honest about
how much is being made and by whom. And some use this issue for political gain.

My main gripe in all this is the implication by some that California ag is somehow drying up and dying away. And, even though there are some people out of work and some fallowed fields the facts from the Fresno County Farm Bureau says,
2008 proved to be another record-breaker with more than $5.662 billion in food and fiber products produced in Fresno County. -

For the 20th year in a row Fresno County has led the nation in record-breaking ag production and yet some imply that agriculture is dying on the vine because of a lack of water.

Like Mark Twain once said, Whiskey's for drinkin' and water's for fightin'!

  • Dale Stewart - Perfect Day

    2:20

I cover Lou Reed's Perfect Day from Transformer 1972. This song has been kicking around in my head for a couple of years and I finally got around to learning how to play it. I first heard it on Pitch a Fit with Poly Vinyl Chloride and it has become one of my favorites.

    New camera and new lighting.

  • Dale Stewart - Tiger Man

    2:59

I cover Tiger Man on Record Store Day at Tower District Records 21APR18. This song was originally recorded by Rufus Thomas in 1953 and covered by Elvis in 1968. This was the first gig with my new gear: Kaossilator Synthesizer/Drum Machine and Tannoy monitors, which has allowed me to have rhythm section backup for my solo performances. It really frees me from having to carry the beat on the rhythm guitar for every part of every song. It's way more fun and I get to focus on the emotional part of the performance. I love this new setup and look forward to more gigs in the future.

  • Dale Stewart - Chatterbox

    2:22

Solo fingerpicking acoustic guitar video 2:22. Cover of the old New York Dolls song written by Johnny Thunders on the Dolls' 2nd album, Too Much Too Soon in 1974. There's an almost bone-headed simplicity to John Anthony Genzale, Jr's lyrics and songwriting, but that never stopped any well-meaning rocknroller before, so why let it stop me now. It's that very simplicity that lets the emotion come through. Iggy has bragged about writing songs in 20-words-or-less. I rearranged a few of the chords to suit my ethos and fit the fingerpicking style. I have to admit I've been influenced by Nick Dolezal and I've been working on this fingerpicking thing for about 6 months. I saw Restarnaut at the Fresno Fuse Festival some months ago and noticed how he could get so much sound out of an electric ukelele with only 4 strings. So, I play on only the top 4 strings of the guitar. It opened up a world of tones that I could hear more easily by just playing on just 4 strings. But, let me tell you, fingerpicking is really hard, son. Strumming is way easier. But, here it is: my new direction. I've got the Martin plugged into a Mesa F30 and miked with a 57. For the vocals I'm using a Sterling 55 studio mike into the 24-track and video on the Canon HF-R21.

The DSG - FROM THE START
A thousand cuts all added up
Would surely kill though not one cut
    was deep at all
To have a part right from the start
Then watch your reasons scatter and fall

    It seems we’ve strayed
    From the start we made
But when all the reasons why change

To feel by perception truth or deception
A hole in the heart or a hole in the head
If you lead with your heart
    and you don’t look back
    You just follow that train
you head right down the track

    Change
    Why change?

This is the second song with my new gear: the Kaossilator Synthesizer/Drum Machine and Tannoy powered monitors, which has allowed me to have a rhythm section backup for recordings and live. New gear and a new direction. It really frees me from having to carry the beat on the rhythm guitar for every part of every song. It's way more fun and I get to focus on the emotional part of the performance and play some leads that I couldn't play without a drum beat on the Kaossilator. I love this new setup and look forward to finishing this new album and more gigs in the future.

Likes to play and run and romp, likes to jump and chew and chomp, he's the bestest friend and like a little brother. Little Dude likes dog food and he likes his hambone too.
And he chases his own tail and to please he never fails, Little Dude likes dog food.
Every day theirs something new with new smells and things to do, come and stay and sit and learn to mind. On my lap fast asleep or just sitting at my feet, I'm never alone with my buddy by my side. Little Dude likes dog food and he likes his hambone too.

  • Dale Stewart - Tiger Man

    2:49

I cover the Rufus Thomas song from 1953 on Sun Records. I'm aware of and am influenced by the versions of Tiger Man by Elvis in 1968 and Tav Falco in 1985. I would like to channel maybe a blue tone, ala Charles Brown or Nat Cole, but that may be a stretch. Here's the Rufus Thomas version, the best, I think:
    Elvis:
Kim Wilson took some wide liberties with it:
I'm pretty sure Panther Burns covered it back in the 80s but I can't find a watchable version.
    This guy butchered it:
I hope mine is at least better than that. I do think it's ironic that someone who is definitely not king of anything would sing such lyrics. But, that's irony for you.
