    *No copyright infringement intended*

    Lyrics:

Though you may not drive a great big Cadillac
Gangsta whitewalls TV antennas in the back
You may not have a car at all
    But remember brothers and sisters
    You can still stand tall
Just be thankful for what you've got
Though you may not drive a great big Cadillac
Diamond in the back, sunroof top, diggin' the scene with a gangsta lean Gangsta whitewalls, TV antennas in the back

You may not have a car at all
    But remember, brothers and sisters
    You can still stand tall
Just be thankful, for what you've got
Diamond in the back, sunroof top, diggin' the scene with a gangsta lean woo hoo ooh (x3)
Though you may not drive a great big Cadillac
Gangsta whitewalls, TV antennas in the back
You may not have a car at all
    But remember brothers and sisters
    You can still stand tall
Just be thankful, for what you've got
Diamond in the back, sunroof top, diggin' the scene with a gangsta lean

    From Album - Curtis

Curtis Lee Mayfield (June 3, 1942 -- December 26, 1999) was an American soul, R&B, and funk singer, songwriter, and record producer best known for his anthemic music with The Impressions and for composing the soundtrack to the blaxploitation film Super Fly. Curtis Mayfield is a winner of both the Grammy Legend Award (in 1994) and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (in 1995),and was a double inductee into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, inducted as a member of The Impressions into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991, and again in 1999 as a solo artist. Curtis Mayfield - Give Me Your Love

    4:17

Super Fly is the third studio album by American soul and funk musician Curtis Mayfield, released in July 1972 on Curtom Records. It was released as the soundtrack for the blaxploitation film of the same name. Widely considered a classic of 1970s soul and funk music, Super Fly was a nearly immediate hit. Its sales were bolstered by two million-selling singles, Freddie's Dead (#2 R&B, #4 Pop) and the title track (#5 R&B, #8 Pop). Super Fly is one of the few soundtracks to out-gross the film it accompanied.

Super Fly, along with Marvin Gaye's What's Going On, was one of the pioneering soul concept albums, with its then-unique socially aware lyrics about poverty and drug abuse making the album stand out. The film and the soundtrack may be perceived as dissonant, since the Super Fly film holds rather ambiguous views on drug dealers, whereas Curtis Mayfield's position is far more critical. Like What's Going On, the album was a surprise hit that record executives felt had little chance at significant sales. Due to its success, Mayfield was tapped for several film soundtracks over the course of the decade.

Curtis Mayfield & The Impressions - People Get Ready

    2:39

People Get Ready was a 1965 single by The Impressions, and the title track from the album of the same name. Please appreciate 1965!!! Such a positive songwriter. The single is today the group's best-known hit, reaching number-three on the Billboard R&B Chart and number 14 on the Billboard Pop Chart. The gospel-influenced track was a Curtis Mayfield composition, and displayed the growing sense of social and political awareness in his writing.

People get ready, there's a train a comin'
You don't need no baggage, you just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin'
Don't need no ticket, you just thank the Lord

People get ready for the train to Jordan
It's picking up passengers from coast to coast
Faith is the key, open the doors and board 'em
There's hope for all among those loved the most.

There ain't no room for the hopeless sinner
Who would hurt all mankind just to save his own
Have pity on those whose chances grow thinner
For there's no hiding place against the Kingdom's throne

So people get ready, there's a train a comin'
You don't need no baggage, you just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin'
Don't need no ticket, you just thank the Lord

Curtis Mayfield - Here But Im Gone

    5:23

How did I get so far gone
    Where do I belong
And where in the world did I ever go wrong
If I took the time to replace
    What my mind erased
I still feel as if I'm here but I'm gone
    Porched up in a rocking-chair
    With my feet all bare
Rolling my blunt in a cigar wrap
    Live an adolescent mind
    never do take the time
Waiting for my high, quiet as it's kept
How did I get so far gone
    Where do I belong
And where in the world did I ever go wrong
If I took the time to replace
    What my mind erased
I still feel as if I'm here but I'm gone
Mama told me I was best
Argue and punch in my chest
Son now be strong, let me take you home
I'd see in her eyes so sincere
    Screaming, what got me here
Standing in the world and with my mind all blown
How did I get so far gone
    Where do I belong
And where in the world did I ever go wrong
If I took the time to replace
    What my mind erased
I still feel as if I'm here but I'm gone
How did I get so far gone
    Where do I belong
And where in the world did I ever go wrong
If I took the time to replace
    What my mind erased
I still feel as if I'm here but I'm gone
I do nothing but waste all my time
    Leaving the world behind
Smoking my crack just to keep me high
Around the boys I play my part rough
    Keep myself tough enough
    Never to cry
    Don't really want to die
How did I get so far gone
    Where do I belong
And where in the world did I ever go wrong
If I took the time to replace
    What my mind erased
I still feel as if I'm here but I'm gone
How did I get so far gone
    Where do I belong
And where in the world did I ever go wrong
If I took the time to replace

Lauryn Hill & Curtis Mayfield | Here But Im Gone

    5:08

This was on the soundtrack for The Mod Squad (MGM 1999) released on WEA/Elektra label. NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED. Lyrics:

    (Lauryn Hill):

    (Watch this... a-ah)
    Exhausting every chance
    These victims of circumstance
    Dancing the circle of confusion
    With cold muses
Grab their soul with a tight grip
    Then uses up
    All your power
While the weak man he loses
    And it's deep how
Whenever man speak now he refuses
    To remember the abuses
And all the people he misuses
    And there ain't no excuses
Cos in every situation man chooses
His own plate, his own fate, his own date
At redemption, and only fools and babies get exemption
Cos, in the hereafter school, see we all stay for detention
    And did I mention
It's either ascention or dessention, no third dimension, so pay attention...

(Curtis Mayfield with Lauryn Hill on background vocals):

How did I get so far gone
    Where do I belong
And where in the world did I ever go wrong
If I took the time to replace
    What my mind erased
I still feel as if I'm here but I'm gone

Curtis Mayfield - Back to Living Again

    5:12

Now is always the right time
To put something positive in your mind
There's always someone to pull you down
You just get back up and hold your ground

From Curtis Mayfield's 1996 album, New World Order. This was his comeback album after he was paralyzed in 1990. Each line was recorded individually as he lay on his back straining for air, then edited together. He also oversaw the production of the album. Uplifting story, for a truly uplifting song.
