[Mono] The late country legend appears on this eclectic USTV program, performing a very successful song from his earlier career singing rock/rockabilly tunes. Proved he still had the pipes to deliver on this hit, as well.

Backing musicians include: Hiram Bullock on guitar; Don Alias on percussion; Omar Hakim on drums; Philippe Saisse on keyboards; and Tom Barney on bass guitar. This program was the idea of Hal Willner.

*As of June, 2018, I've turned off the ability to make Comments, due to the fact that too many viewers have chosen to comment on hairstyles and insult people, rather than to stay focused on the music. I've grown tired of wasting my time deleting offensive remarks from insensitive and, at times, racist jerks.

To those of you who've enjoyed the clip for all of the right reasons, and commented appropriately, Thank You!.

  • Conway Twitty - Almost Persuaded

    2:58

A wonderful rendition done by the late great Conway Twitty

    Lyrics:
Last night all alone in a barroom
Met a girl with a drink in her hand.
She had ruby red lips, coal black hair
And eyes that would tempt any man.
Then she came and sat down at my table,
And as she placed her soft hands in mine,
I found myself wanting to kiss her
For temptation was flowing like wine.
And I was almost persuaded to strip myself of my pride.
Almost persuaded to push my conscience aside.
Then we danced and she whispered, I need you!
Take me away from here and be my man.
Then I looked into her eyes and I saw it:
The reflection of my wedding band.
And I was almost persuaded to let strange lips lead me on.
Almost persuaded but your sweet love made me stop and go home.
Last night all alone in a barroom
Met a guy with a drink in his hand.
He had bay blue eyes, coal black hair
And a smile that a girl understands.
Then he came and sat down at my table,
And as he placed his hands over mine,
I found my self wanting to kiss him
For temptation was flowing like wine.
And I was almost persuaded to strip myself of my pride.
Almost persuaded to push my conscience aside.
Then we danced and he whispered, I need you!
Let me take you away and be your man.
Then I looked into his eyes and I saw it:
The reflection of my wedding band.
And I was almost persuaded to let strange lips lead me on.
Almost persuaded but your sweet love made me stop and go home.

  • Conway Twitty Its Only Make Believe

    2:24

It's Only Make Believe is a song written by Conway Twitty and Jack Nance, released by Twitty as a single in 1958. The single topped both U.S. and British national charts, and was Twitty's only number-one single on the pop charts of either country.
The song's lyrics describe the thoughts and feelings of a man in love with a woman who does not seem to be in love with him. He hopes and prays that, at some point in time, the woman will be able to return his love, but laments that, at present, it's only make believe.
The co-author of the song, Jack Nance, is not the same person as John Marvin Nance, an actor also known as Jack Nance. The co-author was a drummer, trumpet player and singer, who worked with Twitty in Arkansas as a teenager. Later in his career Nance toured with Germain Jackson.

About Conway Twitty & Joni (a short intro)
    link:

    Lyrics: Don't Cry Joni
    Conway Twitty & Joni Lee

''Jimmy, please say you'll wait for me
I'll grow up someday you'll see
Saving all my kisses just for you
    Signed with love forever true.''

    (Conway)

Joni was the girl who lived next door
I've known her I guess ten years or more
Joni wrote me a note one day
And this is what she had to say.

    (Joni)
''Jimmy, please say you'll wait for me
I'll grow up someday you'll see
Saving all my kisses just for you
    Signed with love forever true.''

    (Conway)

Slowly I read her note once more
Then I went over to the house next door
Her tear drops fell like rain that day
When I told Joni what I had to say.

    (All)

    ''Joni, Joni please don't cry
You'll forget me by and by
You're just fifteen, I'm twenty two
And Joni, I just cant wait for you.''

    (Conway)

Soon I left our little home town
Got me a job and tried to settle down
But these words kept haunting my memory
The words that Joni said to me.

    (Joni)

''Jimmy please say you'll wait for me
I'll grow up some day you'll see
Saving all my kisses just for you
    Signed with love forever true.''

    (Conway)

I packed my clothes and I caught a plane
I had to see Joni, I had to explain
How my heart was filled with her memory
And ask my Joni if she'd marry me.

I ran all the way to the house next door
But things weren't like they were before
My tear drops fell like rain that day
When I heard what Joni had to say.

    (Joni)

    ''Jimmy, Jimmy please don't cry
You'll forget me by and by
It's been five years since you've been gone
Jimmy, I married your best friend John...''

    2:58

Conway Twitty performing After All The Good Is Gone

    Lyrics:
Today I got a letter from someone
Just a friend we knew some time ago
And as I read between the lines
    I began to realize
He didn't know I lost you
    A long long time ago
Oh, I, just can't make it any longer
Everything I do is always wrong
Lord I'm just living a lie
And there's no need in trying
    To keep hanging on
After all the good is gone
Lord I wish that I could die
And there's no use in trying
    To keep hanging on
After all the good is gone

Conway Twitty performing Fifteen Years Ago

    Lyrics:
I saw a man today who said he talked to you
not so long ago, I think a month or two
as my mind raced back in time I prayed
oh, Lord, don't let it show
he thinks I forgot you fifteen years ago
Fifteen years ago and I still feel the same
why did he have to mention your name
I'm as broken up inside as if it's been a week or so
it takes a mighty strong love
to get a real love off your mind
I know, I've tried since fifteen years ago
I've got a lovely wife who thinks the world of me
I promised her my love through all eternity
I've tried hard to make her happy
and so far, she doesn't know
That I can't shake this thing of fifteen years ago
Fifteen years ago and I still feel the same
why did he have to mention your name
I'm as broken up inside as if it's been a week or so
It takes a mighty strong love
To keep a man thinking of
A girl he hasn't seen since fifteen years ago
