  • The White Stripes: Whatever Happened to Meg White?

Did you like this video? Get even more exclusive content on my Patreon page:

Today we talk about the band The White Stripes and whatever happened to their drummer Meg White who would make her last public appearance in 2009 during Conan O' Brien's final show as host of his late night show before becoming host of the Tonight Show. Since then she's been unseen in the public eye. So we asked, whatever happened to Meg White of the White Stripes?

    FACEBOOK: @RNRTrueStories
    TWITTER: @rocktruestories

    #thewhitestripes #megwhite #jackwhite

The white stripes would form in 1997 and consist of the duo guitarist and vocalist Jack White and Drummer and White’s spouse Meg White. The duo would marry in 1996 and divorce 4 years later in 2000, but following their split they still continued to make music together. The White Stripes brand of alternative garage rock would catch the ears of the public in 1998 following the release of Let’s Shake Hands. They would release their self titled debut self titled record the following year and soon enough people who got a taste of the unique sound were quickly calling themselves fans. Throughout the 2000’s the band would release several highly successful albums and rack up 4 grammy wins. The duo would release their final studio album in 2007 with Icky Thump. And since their final studio record they’ve released numerous live recordings and even today their music is plastered all over rock radio and sports arenas. Guitarist Jack White is still writing, recording and touring, but Meg White has well disappeared. But , whatever happened to her .Stay tuned to find out. The white stripes would play their final live performance in february of 2009 during conan o brien’s last time hosting NBC’s late night show. O’Brien who counted himself a huge fan of the White Stripes would recall why the band was chosen during his farewell episode saying when we were trying to decide which musical guest to feature on the last show after so many years. . There was one band that was always on the top of my list. The band would perform a modified version of their 2001 song “We’re going to be friends” What took many fans by surprise was that meg white didn’t play the drums that night. Instead she performed on guitar. While many fans knew this was be O’Brien’s last time hosting his late night show on NBC. . No one would know it would be the last time the white stripes would perform together.

That’s not to say that fans didn’t freak out over the performance. The duo’s touring schedule in the years that led up to their final appearance was pretty erratic. In 2007 according to billboard magazine the band called off their entire United States tour one day before it was set to start in New Mexico The band also decided to call off their UK tour which was supposed to start the following month. Following the cancellations the band would release a short statement reading “the White Stripes announced today they are cancelling their forthcoming tour due to health issues. Meg White is suffering from acute anxiety and is unable to travel at this time. We hate to let people down and we are very sorry the statement would read. Three years later in May of 2010 almost a year after performing on Conan O’ Brien’s late night show there were rumblings online of a possible White Stripes reunion. Jack White would reveal to the New York Times as he put it “we’d like to get the White Stripes back together and record new music”. He’d go on to say about his partner Meg White. “I don’t think her anxiety exists anymore, but i don’t know.” IT was welcome news to fans of the band. On top of that White would reveal that his former bandmate Meg was present while he was rehearsing with his other band at the time the now defunct Dead Weather saying Meg’s still involved in everything but we’ve never sat down and gone okay don’t forget to block out 3 months. . We never did that even in the thick of crainess for the white stripes. Sadly for fans the reunion would only be a pipe dream. And on february 2, 2011 the band reported on their official website that they were disbanding. The statement emphasized it was not do to health issues or artistic differences or as they put it to mostly preserve what was beautiful and special about the band.. Since the white stripes have disbanded meg white has virtually disappeared. She’s not on social media, she doesn’t do interviews and you can’t even find a paparazzi photos of her. Anything we really know about meg white’s life after the white stripes is through her former bandmate and whatever is randomly reported online. In may of 2009 she married guitarist Jackson Smith, the son of musicians Patti Smith and Fred Sonic Smith. The wedding took place in Nashville, Tennessee in a small ceremony in Jack White’s backyard.

 Hurrah! Hurrah!
We'll give him a hearty welcome then
 Hurrah! Hurrah!

The men will cheer and the boys will shout

Well finally throw Jay Leno out

And we'll all feel gay when Coco comes marching home.

The old church bell will peal with joy
 Hurrah! Hurrah!

To welcome home our darling boy,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
 Televisions brightest day

Since Fallon had led the world astray

And we'll all feel gay when Coco comes marching home.

    Get ready for the Jubilee,
 Hurrah! Hurrah!

    He'll outrun all of NBC,
 Hurrah! Hurrah!

The laurel wreath is ready now

To place on his flippy, ginger brow
And we'll all feel gay when Coco comes marching home.

    Let old network executives
Hurrah, hurrah!

Suck on their thumbs and don their bibs
 Hurrah, hurrah!

And let each one perform some part,
To refill American families hearts
And we'll all feel gay when Coco comes marching home
