    Truncate & Jimmy - Submission

    4:24

    Released by: Ultramajic

    Release/catalogue number: LVX023D

    Release date: Jan 15, 2016

    Buy and support:

Earlier this year saw the launch of Jimmy Edgar's Fabriclive 79 compilation, and within it oscillated the robotic undertones of Submission - the latest collaborative project between Ultramajic and LA native Truncate (aka Audio Injection). Coupling Truncate's aptitude for mechanical DJ tools and Edgar's chunky synthetic elegance, Ultramajic will showcase the Submission EP on November 13th.

Submission's machine-gun hats, dissected by crunchy thunder claps, lay foundation to the clockwork repetition of an overbearing artificial intelligence. Truncate's rework applies generous reverb for a more dense spatial distribution, whilst Edgar retains the track's original minimalism, sparingly peppering additional synthetic tones over the top. Movement is then created in Kris Wadsworth's rework, infusing textures and synthesis for a more evolving composition.

    PHACE - SHITSTORM - NSGNLEP003 - VITREOUS EP

    2:53

    Released by: Neosignal Recordings
    Release/catalogue number: NSGNLEP003
    Release date: Oct 4, 2013

    Out now! Get it here:

You heard that right; Phace is back on a solo tip and presents a razor sharp and absolutely fresh 4-Track EP entitled VITREOUS.

The German electronic virtuoso puts all rumours to bed claiming he might disappear after unleashing his collaborative non-Drum & Bass Neosignal band project a little earlier this year... Au contraire! Phace is all wrapped up in doing what he loves most; writing uncompromising music!

The theme of the EP is inspired by the omnipresent glass human being our era and society is characterized by. And each track featured on this release shines bright like glass as well. As usual we prefer to leave more detailed track by track judging to the listener!

Make sure you support the label and buy it directly from us ;)

Art Style : Techno | Prototype Blood With DJ Áder | Episode 31 : Cortechs

    58:04

    Cortechs

Uncompromising, Dark, Atmospheric. Techno! That's the sound of Cortechs. It did not take long until the unique sound of Cortechs became attention in the global underground scene of techno music. After multiple releases on various prestigious labels, Cortechs earned his rightful position among the most important producers and performers of the german underground techno movement.

With his first album The End Justifies The Means which was released on his regular label Machine Box, Cortechs was able to give his sound a very personal touch and gather enough raw materials to use and intuitively play with in his exquisite Ableton Live sets. Having been on tour through Germany a lot of times, he always found inspiration for producing new sounds. This new material was also the basis for upcoming projects like the Last 13 EP released on Steil or the collaboration with Hackler & Kuch which was released on De-Konstrukt. With remixes for Angy Kore, Niereich, Morgan Tomas or Mike Wall, Cortechs has become an important and much requested remixer in the scene.

In 2013 even more live gigs came around. This automatically resulted in much new material again which directly found ist way into his ableton sessions . This was also the biggest influence for his next big Project, his second LP Waste of Humanity, which will be released on Steil later this year. So if you are looking for atmospheric and massive bassline tracks, make sure to look out for Cortechs!

Soma Records is inarguably one of Techno's major forces in 2017 and since it’s inception on the streets of Glasgow, Soma Records has stood for uncompromising quality of the highest level in every area it operates.
Label figureheads Slam formed the label in 1991 together with friends Glenn Gibbons & Dave Clarke and subsequently forged one of electronic music’s most widely known and well-respected labels. Soma quickly began to develop its own sound with classics such as Slam's timeless ‘Positive Education’ and helped launch the careers of many great artists like Surgeon, Envoy, Funk D’Void, Silicone Soul and Alex Smoke as well as the discovery of French duo Daft Punk who released their first rudimentary, raw outings on the label back in 1994.

With their eyes firmly fixed on a vision of the future, Soma began the quest to instil their unquenchable passion and thirst for electronic music onto the world around them.

    Box Set

Soma have enlisted the likes of Jeff Mills, Robert Hood, Steve Bicknell, Andrew Weatherall (appearing as Woodleigh Research Facility), Blawan, Adam Beyer and more to provide brand new musical excursions for today's dance floors and beyond. These, coupled with many of today's new, up and coming names in the techno genre like Kobosil, VRIL & Jonas Kopp choosing their favourite tracks from the Soma back catalogue to remix sees Soma’s futuristic vision remaining strong with the celebration of 25 years being one of a forward thinking nature rather than one of nostalgia.

Ostgut’s Kobosil brings Slam’s ‘Visions’ into the prevailing drone-ebbed world, the veiled VRIL douses the timeless X Track by Percy X in his dubbed out demeanour and Jonas Kopp’s EBM workout of another Slam classic, ‘Stepback’ creates the standpoint for the project: “Always forward, never back”. Jeff Mills’ provides otherworldly connections with ‘A Tale From The Parallel Universe’, Weatherall delivers future/retro acid and Josh Wink unleashes a 9min epic dance floor burner. Robert Hood provides a straight up, fast paced dance floor workout; all coming together to form the collective consciousness of the Soma attitude. Slam deliver ‘Tempest’, a track that perfectly sums up the whirlwind last few years the pair have enjoyed as they continue to be at the forefront of the global Techno elite. Completing the assemblage of original tracks is Soma’s own Funk D’Void, bringing his unique brand of jacked up electronics with ‘808 Planet’.

    Visual Construct

In accompaniment, Soma decided it was necessary to match the unique musical sensibilities displayed with an artistic environment that clearly juxtaposed the ideas set forth in the project. This led to collaboration with Scottish artist Kyle Irvine. His highly detailed, powerful yet delicate illustration style is truly unique. Each design was handpicked by Soma especially for the box set, which features exclusive Soma 25 Logo stickers, a poster and illustrated vinyl sleeves. Each individual sleeve has its own story line with enigmatic characters including Lantern Man and Little Bo, who live in a dimension beyond our own. Look out for Kyle’s designs on the Soma25 remix singles and forthcoming, limited edition clothing lines produced in conjunction with Forty Clothing Glasgow.

Adieu Gary Cooper - Quand je serai mort

    5:52

    Adieu Gary Cooper « Outsiders » (2017) -
    Available on Cheptel Records:
    And Casbah Records:

Violet Poison is an experimental/hybrid Techno vinyl-only label, run by mysterious Violet Poison and Berlin artist Shapednoise, inspired by the greatest Italian horror-movies directors from the 1960-1970′s decades and from obscure producers of vintage electronica, harsh noise/industrial music and IDM (like Suzanne Ciani, Clock DVA, Prurient, Justin Broadrick, SPK, Venetian Snares etc.).
Label started on 2011 with a solo 3-tracker stomping production by Violet Poison and continued with the first collaboration between Violet Poison and Shapednoise under the pseudonym Violetshaped that featured an acidic and extreme 3-tracker EP.

On September 2012, label released the first in a series of remix packages: Violetshaped project with reworks by Vatican Shadow, Roly Porter and Kangding Ray.
For the 2013 Violet Poison has planned to release the debut album by Violetshaped and will be followed by the second part of the remixes series featuring important experimental names from the techno and experimental scene.

Outside label work, Violet Poison and Shapednoise under their pseudonym Violetshaped, will participate to The Unknown Precept's book+vinyl project that will feature important artists on the dark/industrial side such as like Regis, Emptyset, Adam X, Ancient Methods, Vatican Shadow, Svreca etc.
Shapednoise will have also his solo debut album on limited-edition cassette on legendary Dominick Fernow's (Prurient/Vatican Shadow) Hospital Productions imprint, of which a track is included within this mix, we hope you enjoy this as much as we have piecing it together.

Inigo Kennedy - Longing - TrusT - Remembrance

    4:35

Inigo Kennedy - Longing - TrusT - Remembrance

    Notes:
TrusT believes in the reliability of truth and the ability of strength.

Unsurprisingly, the remit of their label is simple; collaboration and respect.

For the first album, Acceptance, total creative freedom was given to the artists to contribute tracks and artwork that represented them most accurately. The result was a body of work that genuinely reflected the length, breadth and depth of underground electronic music today.

This is a path that TrusT are committed to follow and will develop with the support of those who share their ethos.

One year on, ‘Remembrance’; the second part of the trilogy, remains true to this ideal and steadfastly, their actions continue to challenge what is considered the norm..

    War - Makashi

    4:18

Remaining permanently on the precipice of upfront, intelligent drum and bass, Demand Records have had a storming few years at the forefront of the scene.
Shaping the brand new talents of upcoming producers like Ed:it, RoyGreen & Protone, Pennygiles, LSB and Heavy1, Demand has also become a home from home for revered musicians at the top of their game. Basing the label's musical ethos around expertly crafted sounds that command attention no matter who created them has led to a die hard following and a truly impressive back catalogue.
This, Demand Records' first vinyl release of 2013, pushes together two standout tracks from Aspect and Gremlinz and newcomer War.
Producing perhaps their strongest work when collaborating, both Aspect and Gremlinz attract the attentions of the higher ranks with every release. Armshouse does not disappoint, with devastating jungle breaks scarring the surface of a deep, rolling sub. Tight and rolling, this is engineered for the dancefloor, the darker and dirtier the better.
War's Makashi takes those malevolent bassy threats and adds them to the framework of an atmospheric stepper. Shaking up the percussion to a blur and adding ambient touches, it's darkly addictive and full of disconcerting space.
DJ support comes from all across the dj circuit. Marcus Intalex, Lenzman, Spectrasoul, Marky, Bailey, DJ Die, Shy Fx and Goldie are only a few to mention.

    Artist: Ulwhednar
    Title: Razor Mesh Fencing
    Label: Northern Electronics
    Catalogue:
    Format: 12 Vinyl
    Genre: Electronic
    Style: Techno
    Release date: March 28, 2019

    Tracklist:

    4. Northland Resources
    5. PIR Motion Detector
    6. Through Gates of Ice
    7. Carosol F40
    8. High Resolution Infrared Thermal Imaging

The relentless stride of Northern Electronics can be put down to the attitudes of its owners, Anthony Linell and Jonas Rönnberg. Their collaborative project, Ulwhednar, has been shapeshifting at the centre of the label since its inception, and has captured their hard line electronics in its many guises.

Following on from 2017's 'Modern Silver', their new album reprises the intensity by grappling with its themes from a refreshed perspective. Crossing Norrland, the northernmost part of Sweden, and graffiti incidents and exploits, 'Razor Mesh Fencing' tracks the fervour of operations left undercover with blistering rhythmic pieces.

With only brief moments of respite on 'Razor Mesh Fencing' its stamina perpetually keeps us on the edge. Winding around its paths, our escape is in its adrenal crescendo.

Ulwhednar is Anthony Linell and Jonas Rönnberg
Recorded in Sofia, Sweden 2018 | Mastered by Neel at EnissLab, Rome

Reagenz - Ge The Periodic Table 3LP

    13:31

buy vinyl or high res digital:

Composed, arranged and performed live at The Bunker New York 10 Year Anniversary in January 2013 by

Jonah Sharp (aka Space Time Continuum) & David Moufang (aka Move D)

    Elements:

Roland TR 909, Roland TR 606, Roland JX-3P, Roland SH101, Anyware Instruments TinySizer, Nord Micro Modular, Doepfer Dark Time, Akai MPC 1000, Electro Harmonix Memory Man Delay, Moog MidiMurf

Few projects in electronic music have remained at the very cutting edge for as long as Reagenz, a collaboration between San Francisco-based Jonah Sharp and Heidelberg-based David Moufang. Their first self-titled album “Reagenz,” was released during a foundational moment for ambient and electronic music: 1994. At the time, Jonah’s main project was Spacetime Continuum; an early signee of seminal label Astralwerks. He was also running one of the first independent electronic music labels on the West Coast, Reflective Records, recording with the likes of Pete Namlook and Bill Laswell; while David was founding acclaimed duo Deep Space Network, starting to record solo records as Move D, entering into a fruitful collaboration with Pete Namlook, as well as running his own Source Records imprint.

Following several well-received live appearances in Japan, Reagenz was reformed in 2009 for a full-length album “Playtime” on the respected Berlin label Workshop. Since then, the project has been ongoing, touring to present live shows in both the US and Europe. There has also been a special collaborative extension of the project when Reagenz met Magic Mountain High (Moufang w/ Juju & Jordash) under the name The Mulholland Free Clinic at last year’s Unsound Festival in Krakow. Moufang, working as Move D, is now highly in demand as a DJ (last year he did one the coveted Fabric mix CDs), whilst Sharp is also busy with solo gigs and a collaborative project with DJ Spun called the Loose Control Band.

Now, twenty years after their first project, comes “The Periodic Table,” a stunning live album captured at The Bunker New York’s tenth anniversary party at Public Assembly, Brooklyn, in January 2013. This Triple LP / CD album also serves as the first full-length release from relatively new label The Bunker New York, which was launched in January 2014, so far releasing nine EPs from the likes of Atom™, Voices From The Lake, Marco Shuttle, and others. To introduce the album, Sharp notes, “I consider it a live album that captured the essence of the show. The two-and-a-half hour show was edited down to 70 minutes or so. The hard bit was selecting chunks to use.”

Recorded using a full stage of gear / all-hardware set up that included Roland TR 909, Roland TR 606, Roland JX-3P, Roland SH101, Anyware Instruments TinySizer, Nord Micro Modular, Doepfer Dark Time, Akai MPC 1000, Electro Harmonix Memory Man Delay and a Moog MidiMurf “The Periodic Table” incorporates elements of house, techno and ambient in an organic flow that few artists could replicate. Watching the two musicians on stage makes tangible the sense of decades of shared experience between them very apparent. Moufang clarifies “it is definitely about letting go and finding out where we can go as in terms of improvising (new) tracks.” Sharp concurs, “Communication comes down to hearing and feeling what's going on at the time and trying to make the right decisions on the spot. Spontaneity plays a big part! “

Of course, this special adapt-and-move approach is not something every musician could do successfully. Sharp confirms, “it's a challenge to play live dance music and make it work,“ whilst Moufang sees a parallel for their approach in game theory, noting “Live improvisation is always like a game of chess in a way—you follow and try to take the lead.”

Recorded with almost the same equipment they used to record their debut twenty years earlier, “The Periodic Table” is a testament to the power of live electronic music, its ability to transcend time and remain, when delivered with skill and art, one of the most powerful live music experiences possible. Far from being locked into any cul-de-sac of “dance” genre or DJ tools, “The Periodic Table” presents a living, breathing model. Free your mind and your feet will follow.

Duckbeats & Jet Project - Ascension - Jet Project Club Rub

    7:17

Following the collaborative gem that was 'Love Dub', label founders The Jet Project & Duckbeats get together once again & use a load of different wires and machines with lights on to concoct another dancefloor damaging delight.

So, there's been lots of talk about 'Ethno this' and 'Tribal that' from lazy music journalists lately, and it''s hard to deny the worlds finest floors have been moving to an altogether more organic range of flavours, but as always we're keen to avoid pigeonholes while remaining on top of our game.

Ascension was dreamed up a long time ago, informed as much by the afro-House manoeuvres on early 90's NY labels like Bottomline as it was by this week's 'back in fashions'

A sample gathering trip to the local Somali grocer yielded absolutely nothing useful, other than some haggling over a plantain, so the boys threw together their own spicy stew of Zulu chants, a handful of precision beats from the by now frighteningly effective drum department, and a bona-fide life affirming melody....voila, simple House music magic.

High calibre remixes come from the boys themselves, stretching things out and beefing things up respectively, as well as an insistent Iberian workout from Jairo Catelo who has taken Ascension for a deep and bumping ride.

Wrapping it all up we have a bare knuckle, acid drenched future-retro homage to Trax from Bulgarian bad boy Kink.

All in all, we'll sure you'll agree, another outstanding selection designed for your Extended Playing needs - Play on.

    Perc & Truss - Judd

    5:00

    Released by: Perc Trax Ltd.

    Release/catalogue number: PTL003

    Release date: Jul 31, 2014

    Buy and support

Almost a year after they unveiled their collaboration with the wall of sound that was the ‘Spiker’ 12” Perc & Truss return to their home on the Perc Trax Ltd label to serve up a fresh four track EP of live analogue jams. Once again the tracks were recorded in one take. All mistakes, happy accidents and bizarre unexplainable audio artefacts have been kept in place, with no post-production or further editing done once the first take was recorded. These tracks cover more ground than the three on Spiker, but the Perc & Truss collaboration is no experimental vanity project, with all four new tracks aiming straight at the dancefloor.
Title track and opener ‘Two Hundred’ leads the way with caustic acid providing the foundation for a classic London cabbie-rant vocal, whilst ‘Judd’ layers all manner of malfunctioning effect pedal sounds over a triplet rhythm track.

On the b-side ‘Forever Your Girl’, a mainstay of Perc’s sets for months now, leads the charge, as rave interludes provide a breather from the kind of kick drum volley made for Awakening’s Gashouder home. Finally ‘Van Der Valk’ mixes hardcore stabs over an icy electro-tinged groove and crowd samples stretching the Perc & Truss sound further than ever before.

All rights reserved for the producers of these tracks.

Label owners offer a disorienting line of acid tension in ‘Sequences’ followed by minimalist master Voiski’s ‘Floodlight For Sunflower’ - a deep end percussive workout. Parisian underground export François X is next with stripped back hypnotic roller ‘Rigid Monitor’ whilst The Hacker explores face-melting electro on ‘Analog Blizard’.

Conceptual Spanish producer Orbe pairs interplanetary glitches with low end bass structures on ‘Temporary Mutation’ followed by Warsaw based Frenchman Amandra, who delves into droning tribal percussions on ‘Derviche Roba’.

Abstract Division, the collaborative project by Paul Boex and Dave Miller offer an eerie, energetic builder on ‘Unfolding Process’, followed by British techno mainstay Roberto’s funk injected robotic workout ‘Talisman’.

As part of the digital release, Italian Berlin-based producer Biemsix presents ‘You’re Too Young To Worry’, a restrained track where looping melodies interact with skeletal percussion.

    3. Patrik Skoog - The Field

The second release on Figure Jams continues to pursue our new concept of pairing certain artists together, this time placing the seasoned Swedish sound sculptor Patrik Skoog alongside Abstract Division, a collaborative project of Paul Boex and Dave Miller, two equally experienced Dutch producers.

The latter deliver a pair of straight-forward tunes that seemingly stem from the depths of space. With an intimidating backdrop of menacing and rummaging drones they carefully create a constant sense of alarming tension that is never lifted.

This abstract threat takes solid shape in Patrik Skoogs slamming „The Field“, a heavy hitter of immense magnitude that despite packing a bouncy punch still stays afloat thanks to its lightly dancing hats. Another agile alien grooves closes the EP, with rides zooming in and out, slingering and cutting through the track‘s subtly booming body

    Release Date: 27 August 2018
    Format: Digital
    Beatport:

Latin America’s pulsating musical heritage and electronic music’s universal appeal, has seen Argentina rise up onto the world stage as an ever-evolving hotbed of talent.
The fresh, passionate, musical/cultural mix in Buenos Aires and all over the country is going global – enter Juan Hansen. The past couple of years have seen this supremely talented, trained composer/musician/vocalist, develop his incredible live sets – performances that are rapidly becoming legendary in the clubs of Argentina, guided by an exemplary ethos of mixing genres without prejudice. Now, Bedrock is set to release Juan’s first ever EP in a perfect collaborative meeting of musical minds with the legendary Jimmy Van M.

‘Kobalt’ exhibits a distinctly futuristic feel, as its ever-mutating, deeply hypnotic groove is overlaid with incredibly dynamic analog synth work, topped with Juan’s distinctive, heart-melting vocal contributions – quite simply, an epically original creation. Riding a breaking wave and diving deeper into electronic soundscape territory comes ‘Madin (Gala Dub)’ – a more experimental, linear audio excursion, but no less impressive in its outcome.
Meanwhile, the sparse, stripped-back, percussive ‘Kobalt (Anormal Rework)’ presents a perfect juxtaposition to the original in terms of feel and vibe. Anormal is a highly creative Buenos Aires-based audio-visual designer and producer focused on the development of minimalist scenes, sharp forms, and unconventional textures, and thus his rework here is a perfect reflection of his constant search of synthesis and bold concepts.

As a mark of this exciting collaboration’s boundless creative ideology, Jimmy & Juan also decamped to Ernesto Romeo’s studio (one of the finest analog studios in Argentina) to completely re-record an alternative version of ‘Kobalt’. Ernesto is a legend in his own right – considered among the pioneers of the scene; a modular synth master as a member of Klauss (since 1988); Carl Craig collaborator on Planet E; and a renowned educator as a professor of synthesis. For this project, the trio set about experimenting and recording layers of live synths to give ‘Kobalt’ a new vibe, taking out original parts, inserting new ideas, editing and tweaking, to end up with an entirely new, deeply delicious ‘Kobalt (Synthwork)’ version.

Every successful collaborative project needs a guiding light, and from his first club experience at 14 years of age at The Bocaccio in Gent, Belgium to his first DJ residency in NYC at the legendary Twilo; through creating the legendary Delta Heavy Tour 2002 with Sasha & John Digweed (31 cities, over 100.000 people, across 60 days), to releasing a multitude of singles, remixes, albums and compilations; Jimmy Van M has a peerless pedigree, having remained at the vanguard of the underground dance industry for more than 20 years. Currently residing in Buenos Aires, he continues to build an enduring legacy, with his recording projects, and is enabling and managing the new music generation through the recently launched Insound Academy ( as a mentor. With such powerful creative energy joining the past with the future, Argentina’s place on the global stage is set to grow even stronger.

    Nicky Siano Interview Part 1

    13:03

Dinosaur's 'Kiss Me Again' marked the first time a DJ stepped into the production chair, with Studio 54/Gallery resident Nicky Siano collaborating with avant disco genius Arthur Russell and a crack team of hired musicians from the NYC underground, including David Byrne of Talking Heads on guitar and Wilbur Bascomb on bass.

All 13 minutes of it's wild arrangement were played as the final song of Optimo DJ's famed residency at Sub Club in Glasgow, and they've given us their support for our own stripped down and stretched out edit, which came out on 'Downtownsounds Classics Vol 2' this summer via our label Fatty Fatty Phonographics.

We grabbed a few words with Siano to discuss the complications of working with Arthur in the studio and the great lost follow up that rests somewhere in the thousands of hours of tapes Russell left behind when he died.

Art Style: Techno | Dirtybass | Episode 2 : Dorian Knox

    1:1:00

    Dorian Knox

Dorian Knox is one of the colourful characters of the Hungarian techno scene, since he represents a style, which has become a curiosity in the little country, called Hungary. He has been interested in playing music since the year 2000, around that time he prefered the more pleasant and popular type of sounds. Nowdays he has found his own musical taste, which is dark and industrial and it fits the most his personality to play with real passion. During the long process to found his style he experienced a lot and various factors affected and influenced his decision. One of those important milestones was the encounter with a Hungarian dj who had his record store, which was the way Dorian found the records and genres that are made his commitment to techno for a lifetime. In general he represents industrial, however we can find releases in his record case from Jeff Mills, Mark Broom or even The Advent, which expands his unique mixes. Due to his talent he gave his first gig during the summer in 2004 at Kashmir Underground while he was a resident for the Dirtybass and Listen to the Techno events. At this time he met with Wildcrush and they shared our passions and aspects about the electronic music. They were played memorable back2back sets in the early mornings. In 2005 until the year of 2006 he played an important role in the BudapesTechno movement as he was involved in the management part of the event as well. After all, one year residency followed his career in the music club, called Freeport. One year later he joined the Fuerza team where he had the chance to introduce his new side and present his altered musical vision. In 2009 he made his debut on Justmusic FM, which is the leader electronic music radio in the country. For the first time he played in the 'Mind the Tech' radio shows. Meanwhile he started producing his own music with Ableton Live. In 2010 he moved to the only regular techno radio show on the channel -- 'Planet Radio Show'. Since then he performing there regularly and he is one of the unique artists who are playing monthly.

Gayle Sans career already began in the late 80s in her hometown Singapore. She started as a warmup DJ for Bands such as Kool and the Gang Earth Wind and Fire and the Commodores,in the Top ten club which was the club of that moment on that island. Leaving her native Singapore in 1988,to pursue her dj career in the UK, nobody expected such a massive success for Gayle in the music business. Gayle's first steps into the London clubs were via DJing at record company parties, various one-off guest spots and fashion shows.

These slots soon led to Gayle being made resident at 'Reach for the Sky' at London's Limelight club, where she played alongside global DJs which Gayle describes as the steepest learning curve possible. Having honed her DJing skills and broadened her understanding of music, Gayle began to experiment with the harder side of dance music, particularly the lesser known techno sounds coming into Britain from Europe and the US of that time. Her chance to pioneer this music in England came when Gayle became resident at Universe's legendary Final Frontier club, at Club U.K. in south London, which then moved on to become Universe Voyager at their new club, the Complex in north London, and she was also resident at all the Tribal Gatherings Festivlas. Final frontier was widely regarded as one of the best club nights in the world, it was not long before Gayle had amassed a following of techno pilgrims who would make journeys from as far as Edinburgh to hear her play. Gayle's reputation of her 3 decks mixing skills and dj sets spread like wildfire over the techno centres of Europe, most notably a residency once a month at the legendary Omen club in Frankfurt, the socalled 'Mecca of techno' that opened doors.

Gayle has already been called the best female techno legend and she is not ready to hang up her headphones just yet.

Baroque Kodan Omikaido Part II 02 05

    9:35

The art forms of East and West crash at the Omi Kaido Passage by Telemann Institute Japan (TIJ) Part II 01_05 ===================================================== Where East Meets West symbolises the unique TIJ's efforts to encourage the fusion of cultures between the East and the West. The project named Ongaku Emaki (Musical Picture Scroll) started by TIJ in 2002 has painted the historical stories in various hues and tints of local communities in the Japan archipelago to the musical accompaniment by the beautiful European baroque chamber music and the time honoured Kodan Story told by Nanzaemon KYOKUDO. The scripts are custom-tailored on each occasion by Junya NAKANO, TIJ's executive in close collaboration with local experts and researchers in history, folklore, arts, etc. On 17 July, the Telemann Chamber Music performed in Otsu City, by the Lake Biwa. This video clip represents the first 9'31 of the 48'29 performance of Part II, titled Music Picture Scroll: The Saga of Omi Kaido Passage. Takeharu NOBUHARU's Programme Note begins as follows: In Part I, I wish to introduce to our audience choice selections of Baroque Music. Over the years, we have introduced to Japanese audience a variety of Baroque Music. However, we find that the three greatest hits boil down to Canon by Pachelbel, Air on the G-String by Bach and The Four Seasons by Vivaldi. We wonder why it is so at each performance. Probably, these musical pieces fit hand in glove with the Japanese sensitivity in general. While we confirm to each other the correctness of this presumption, I wish to introduce to you tonight the charm of Baroque music as represented by various musical instruments vis-a-vis musical pieces. Of course, I have not forgotten to include works of Georg Philipp Telemann whose name forms a part of our Orchestra. He was the most popular composer in the days of Baroque Music and is included as the composer for the greatest number of musical pieces even to this day in Guinness World Records. As to Part II, according to Junya NAKANO (JN), he wants to convey the atmosphere unique to a post town, where people come to contact with people. It is where encounter occurs, and heat-to-heart communication takes place. A comical kerfuffle happens in the Otsu/Kusatsu post towns where such atmosphere prevails. Its a mixture of comedy, horror story, and shambles that characterises some of the Kodan features. Just hold your breath and listen. I have selected pieces of baroque music most suited to the atmosphere of the story. More details, including English translation of the Script, are available at:
