  • Couldnt Get It Right - Climax Blues Band

    3:08

Climax Blues Band, originally known as the Climax Chicago Blues Band, was formed in Stafford, England in 1968. The original members were guitarists Peter Haycock and Derek Holt, keyboardist Arthur Wood, bassist Richard Jones, drummer George Newsome, and vocalist and harmonica player Colin Cooper. In 1970, the group shortened its name to the Climax Blues Band due to pressure from the American band Chicago Transit Authority, later known simply as Chicago. The band has released at least seventeen albums and had a Top 10 hit with Couldn't Get It Right, which reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1977. Led by Cooper, the former frontman of the R&B group the Hipster Image, the Climax Chicago Blues Band was one of the leading lights of the late 1960s UK blues boom. Prior to the release of 1969's Plays On, Jones left the group, prompting Holt to move to bass. In 1970 they moved to the Harvest Records label, at the same time shifting towards a more rock-oriented sound on A Lot Of Bottle. Around the release of 1971's Tightly Knit, Newsome was replaced by John Cuffley. Upon Wood's exit in the wake of 1972's Rich Man, they continued on as a quartet, also dropping the Chicago portion of their name at that time. In 1974 the Climax Blues Band issued FM Live, a document of a New York radio concert. 1975's Stamp was their commercial breakthrough, and 1976's Gold Plated fared even better, spurred on by the success of the hit single Couldn't Get It Right. By the mid-1970s they were drawing crowds of up to 20,000 at U.S. concerts. However, the rise of punk rock effectively stopped the group in their tracks. Cooper died of cancer at age 69 in July 2008. However, the band continues to tour to the present day. This channel is dedicated to the classic rock hits that have become part of the history of our culture. • Katie Got Bandz: Chicago Drill Music & Murder Rate

    3:24

    - Chiraq's Katie Got Bandz sat down with VladTV to discuss the origins of Chicago Drill music and gives her view of why Chi-town's murder rate is so high.

She says that Drill Music started with King Louis and the late Pac Man, both of whom put in most of the footwork in spreading the movement throughout Chicago.

She then discusses the high murder rate, saying older thugs encourage the youth to hang around them and do dirt, and when they get older they do the same thing, making it an endless cycle that's been going on for generations.

    2:26

To the tune of Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again,” Miles Maner, CSO bassoon and contrabassoon, demonstrates the care and preparation of delicate double reeds while on tour: “Making a reed is a complex process. The reed will ask you to do certain things to it. You have to decide whether you should do them that day or wait to see if the problem will resolve itself over time.”

  • Danny Seraphines CTA Chicago Does Anybody, Dialogue, Look Away, Color My World 2018

    17:41

CTA features original Chicago band drummer Danny Seraphine (1967-1990) and former Chicago keyboardist/vocalist/guitarist Bill Champlin (1981-2009). Early Chicago covered tributes are Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? (1969 double-platinum Chicago Transit Authority), Dialogue (3:30) (Part I & II 1972 Chicago V), Look Away (7:29) (Chicago 19) and Colour My World (11:35) (CTA Full Circle, remake of 1970 Chicago II classic). Los Angeles-based CTA band were live in concert at The Rose, Pasadena, CA on August 31, 2018.

Other California Transit Authority (CTA) current band members are guitarist Marc Bonilla and bassist/vocalist Travis Davis, both of The Keith Emerson Band, keyboardist Ed Roth of Annie Lennox fame, vocalist Tony Grant of Az Yet and 3-piece horn section. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Chicago inductee Danny Seraphine first played drums with Chicago Transit Authority on CTA debut album in 1969. Blood, Sweat & Tears producer James William Guercio sold their jazz-rock horn sound to Columbia Records.

In Dialogue Part I, Bill Champlin covers Terry Kath first person vocals (repression... closing in around). Tony Grant sings Peter Cetera parts (everything is fine). Danny Seraphine introduced the song of a dialogue between two young people with different views that is as relevant in today's political climate as when released during the Vietnam War era in 1972. Dialogue Part II contains the more optimistic lyrics sung by the whole band, including we can make it better and we can change the world now.

Look Away was written by famed songwriter Diane Warren for Chicago 19. The soft rock ballad reached #1 in 1989, Chicago's biggest selling single of all time. Bill Champlin sings lead then and now.

On Colour My World, Marc Bonilla plays a beautiful, ethereal guitar rendition with Ed Roth's supporting keyboards and Tony Grant lead vocals. The powerful revised, studio version was released on CTA (California Transit Authority) album Full Circle.

    Elephant in the Room

    Thank God for fermentation
    Fermentation for the wine
    Thank wine for conversation
    With these relatives-in-law of mine
Thank these relatives for you, babe
Thank you for the bouncing boy doing the best that he can do to keep this family entertained as it navigates the treacherous waters of talking small
    On this of all Thanksgivings
Where even the weather can go from zero to an all-out brawl in seconds, just listen
Been kind of a warm November...
God, you and the climate change again, why you gotta be all doom and gloom?
Woo boy, at least no one's mentioned the giant elephant in the room
    Oops!

Ah but it still feels good to be together
Whether you think the world is ending soon or about to get better
So when the bottle's being passed better fill your glass cheers we're in it for the long haul
    On this of all Thanksgivings
Where even our sports can go from zero to an all-out brawl in seconds be careful:
Have you ever spent time in Cleveland?
    No
    South side of Chicago?
    No
    St. Louis?
    No
Ever heard about a fella named Ricketts?
    Yes
Anything to do with his politics?
    No
    How 'bout them Cubs!
Just don't you mention the giant elephant
I mentioned it once and I think I got away with it
Just say hey, what giant elephant
    In the room?

Father John Misty: Finding Your Voice

With his third studio album, “Pure Comedy”, landing on countless best-of lists in 2017, it can be seemingly hard to ignore the presence of one of indie rock’s most polarizing figures, Father John Misty. To understand Father John Misty, it’s best to look back to where he came from. In 1981, Joshua Michael Tillman was born into a religious household in Rockville, Maryland, in the suburbs of Washington, D.C.

In his 20’s, Josh Tillman began to stray away from his family, and religious upbringing. He released 8 records under the name “J. Tillman”, and spent years touring with Fleet Foxes as their drummer. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Josh said, “I wanted to prove to myself prematurely that I was a serious artist and distance myself from how I grew up. I was catering to an archetype, to some sort of cowboy myth of what I wanted to be in my head.

In 2010, he experienced a loss of self-identity while on an intense psychedelic trip. He immediately left Fleet Foxes and moved to LA to write a novel. While working on the novel, he discovered a new voice. A voice that more accurately reflected his true character. This transformation was personified when he undertook the moniker, Father John Misty.

Under the new alias, he released his debut album, “Fear Fun”, which featured a song inspired by the novel he wrote in LA entitled, “I’m Writing A Novel”. The album has a much different sound from any of his previous work. Replacing slow and somber tunes with something more exciting and engaging.

By the time his second project, “I Love You, Honeybear”, was released in 2015, Father John Misty had made waves in the indie rock community for being an outspoken lyricist and performer. His new record was personal, humorous, sweet, and cynical.

In 2017, Father John Misty released his most controversial effort to date, Pure Comedy. From front to back, Pure Comedy is an uncensored critique of the entertainment industry and consumer culture at large. It forces us to look at the ugliest parts of humanity from a perspective outside of our own. On the title track, ‘Pure Comedy’, Tillman points out that, unlike other species, humanity relies on culture to dictate our thoughts and behavior. The album was met with universal acclaim, and a man who was struggling to find his voice only a few years prior is now a commercial success.

His latest album, God’s Favorite Customer, appears to be a much more self-reflective project. With singles like Mr. Tillman and Just Dumb Enough to Try, we get a glimpse into Tillman’s head and find out what he thinks of himself.

Father John Misty isn’t afraid to make people feel uncomfortable. He writes from a perspective beyond his own, allowing the listener to think about the bigger picture. He does this in a way that he never could as J. Tillman. In order to find his true voice, he had to become somebody new.

It was the PERFECT way to welcome in Mother's Day the following morning. In honor of both of these women, this idea came to me late last night as I attempted to go to sleep.

Here I combine Jill Scott's 'Gettin' In The Way' with Erykah Badu's 'On & On'. Happy Mother's Day to you all! Please stay safe whilst we're in this current climate, it's imperative. Hope I can continue to provide you guys some small sense of joy through these hard times!

    2:48

    Buy Now Online:

Legere synthetic reeds clearly are better than natural cane reeds: They sound like cane, but with no reaction to changes in climate, warping or needing to be moistened ever. They are more durable than cane, and one synthetic reed can last as long as one or two boxes of cane reeds.

The Signature Series is intended for mid-level to advanced players and offers more responsiveness throughout the registers with a deep warm sound that’s full and expressive. The reed is made of a denser material which allows for a thinner cut, making the tip more flexible allowing the vibrations to travel down and across the tip with less effort.

Legere Standard Cut Synthetic Saxophone Reeds, more durable than cane.

    Features:

    • Synthetic reeds sound like cane
    • More durable and longer lasting than cane
    • No reaction to changes in climate
    • Great starter reed for students
    • No need to be moistened ever
    • A balance of light and dark tones with a full mid-centered sound

We are climate scientists, Chicago style

Summertime in Chicago, feeling more like New Orleans,
I said, summertime in Chicago, feeling more like New Orleans,
    Hey, Hey,
Messing with the people and farmland in between.

Took a jump through Mississippi, muddy water was running high,
Took a jump to Alabama, tornadoes in the sky (you know what I mean)
    Hey, Hey,
Then out through California, where the reservoir was dry.

You might not see it in person, climate's changing just the same.

  • Karen Lee Andrews - Love You

    2:52

Love You is an original song from Karen Lee Andrews latest EP, Far From Paradise. Available on all major streaming services.

When you think of Texas Blues, you think of Stevie Ray Vaughan or Chicago Blues, Buddy Guy or John Lee Hooker, the king of Detroit Blues. Every branch of Blues is inspired by a city or region and is embodied by an iconic artist who captures the soul of the music.

Oceanic Blues is the distinct subgenre of the Blues. Oceania’s narrative tradition and the introduction of American Blues, Soul and Gospel since the 1960s, has shaped this distinctive style. The roots of the sound are gritty guitar, glowing valves, lush tremolo and deep reverb in a distinctively fluid Oceanic expression. This unique sound carries the mood and tones of Oceania expressed in rich, warm vocals.

The wave of American music that impacted the region in the 1960s coincided an upsurge of migration to American and Australian cities as 1 in 5 Islanders far from home, working endless hours to support their families back home add their unique flavour to the Blues.

Oceania describes the thousands of islands that are scattered throughout the Pacific Ocean, spanning from Australia across to the south, as far as Hawaii. The region is best known for its warm tropical climate, an abundance of beaches, active volcanoes and coastal living. Oceania is steeped in ancient customs of oratory, dance and music, passed down from generation to generation. Each island is unique, while its close ties have created shared values.

Railroad Earth isn't concerned about what genre of music they play – they just play it. When they started out in 2001 they were a bunch of guys interested in playing acoustic instruments together. Since then they've released acclaimed studio and live albums and amassed a large, loyal fanbase across the country. Railroad Earth's music is driven by the remarkable songs of frontman Todd Sheaffer and delivered with seamless arrangements and superb musicianship by all six band members Tim Carbone, Carey Harmon, Andrew Altman, John Skehan, and Andy Goessling (collectively on acoustic and electric guitars, violin, mandolin, bouzouki, piano, banjo, Dobro, mandolin, lap steel, flute, pennywhistle, saxophones, upright and electric bass, drums, hand percussion and vocals). This most recent release release of If You Will Be My Lady which originate from the John Denver letters with music and performance by Railroad Earth, is also the last musical composition recorded and released in which all 6 members performed before beloved band member and brilliant multitalented musician Andy Goessling passed away.

A portion of the proceeds from these two tracks will be donated to Youth Climate Strike, a movement rapidly gaining momentum across the globe, where young people are striking for climate justice. For more information about the movement please visit:

Once again, we’re sharing the stage with a wonderful string ensemble and, this time, in some of the best live music clubs across North America. About a year ago, we had the pleasure to perform a special show in our hometown with a classical string quintet. We filmed the entire event and, a few months later, it became our first ever official live Blu-Ray, “An Evening In Perugia.” Right after that, we’ve been literally flooded with requests from all over the world to make it happen abroad. Everyone in our team, including band, management and label, could only work at making it happen as soon as possible.

So here we are, bringing the full experience across North America in March/April 2019. For the first time in the history of Death Metal, a band is touring with a full string ensemble. Every night will be a night to remember, featuring the longest set we’ve ever played in the continent. No excuses to miss it then, every single detail is going to be perfect and, above all, it might be a once-in-a-lifetime event… Don’t hesitate and get your ticket before it’s too late! Let’s write a new page of Death Metal history together! - Francesco Paoli

  • Luke Tuchscherer // Living Through History

    4:47

Luke Tuchscherer, the Bedfordian Clubhouse Records artist based in New York City, has collaborated with his friends to release a demo of a new song called Living Through History.

With Luke, ex-Whybird bandmate David Banks and Clubhouse’s Tristan and Danny Tipping all recording from their homes during lockdown, the song tackles not only the current coronavirus situation but issues including climate change, wealth disparity and animal exploitation. Banks, who also mixed and mastered the track in his own studio, delivers a blistering guitar solo that recalls some of Neil Young’s ragged glory, very much in keeping with the song itself.

This video, edited by Phil Perry, further illustrates the wider themes of the song.

Tuchscherer said: I see all these things on the internet about how this crisis might help us change. Well, let’s not just talk about it, let’s do it. We have to start with what we put on our plates. We need to think about our votes, and whether that vote might be helping or hindering our frontline workers. We need to think about our fellow humans, and all the other creatures we share this planet with, and put them ahead of money.

“We are living through history, and we’re all feeling the weight of the page at the moment. Let’s be on the right side of that history and do what we can to stop this happening again.”

The song will be available on Luke’s Bandcamp from 11th May on a pay-what-you-want basis, and all proceeds will be split equally between Shelter, Surge Activism and Farms to Food Banks.

  • Ray Charles New Yorks My Home

    3:06

Ray Charles New York's My Home

    Listen all you New Yorkers
    There's a rumour going around
That some of you good people
    Want to leave this town

But you better consult me before you go
    (Why?)
Cos I've been in all these places
    And I know

    (Chicago) Chicago's all right
It's got the Wrigley Field and
    Soldier's Field and Marshall Field
and it's on a nice lake

    But it hasn't got
    The hansoms in the park
It hasn't got a skyline after dark

That's why New York's my home
    Never let me leave it
New York's my home, sweet home

    (What about Hollywood)
    Hollywood's got movie stars and
Movie czars and cocktail bars and
Shiny cars and a wonderful climate, they say

    But it hasn't got
    The handy subway train
    You seldom find a taxi
    When it rains

That's why New York's my home
    Keep your California
New York's my home, sweet home

    (Geez, what's happening in St.Louis)
    Lots of people like St.Louis
    It's got lots of shoes
    And the St.Louis blues and
One of our larger rivers runs by

But it hasn't got the opera in The Met
It hasn't got a famous string quartet

That's why New York's my home
No, not a place to visit
New York's my home, sweet home

    (San Francisco)
San Francisco is a lovely place
    It's got lots of hills
And lots of thrills and it's
On an ocean of some size

    But it hasn't got
    The Bowery or The Bronx
It hasn't got the Harlem honkytonks

That's why New York's my home
    Yeah, it's my favorite city
New York's my home, sweet home

So, save your time and trouble
I say save your railroad fare
I said save your time and trouble, brother
    Save your railroad fare

Cause when you leave New York
Let me say, you ain't going nowhere

WCTA needs help. I started this channel when I was homeless and was able to keep it going while I rode the L to my job out in Oak park cleaning toilets. I was released from that job due to covid paranoia, They where scurred I'd bring covid to the church because I use public transportation. I really don't want to be homeless again, seriously. I've been asked if I have a cashapp... I don't. I would rather the folks that love the channel help more than just me that way. I set up a gofundme for the short term, but for the long term, supporting the channel, subscribing and sharing the hell out of it will lift ALL the boats it was designed to help, even after I'm gone. Here is the channel Gofundme: The dresses are like living daubs of paint. I get the feeling this is a small scale textile area, I'd enjoy hearing more if anyone knows, those sewing machines well built and solid old designs.
Whenever I see a Google street view car going by with that Sputnik looking camera ball on top I get wide eyed, and I live in a city with where I see thousands of cars every day. Imagine some of these kids, standing on the side of the road in thrall as if they where seeing a UFO. I have videos of all the Chicago subway performers at my youtube channel.
