    Supertramp live in Paris (1979)

    Lyrics:

Well, who do you think you're foolin'?
    You say you're havin' fun,
    But you're busy going nowhere,
    Just lying in the sun
You tried to be a hero,
    Commit the perfect crime
But the dollar got you dancing
And you're running out of time
    You're messin' up the water
    You're rolling in the wine
    You're poisoning your body
    You're poisoning your mind
    You gave me coca-cola
    You said it tasted good
    You watch the television
It tell you that you should
How can you live in this way?
(why do you think it's so strange?)
You must have something to say
(Tell me why should I change?)
There must be more to this life
It's time we did something right
Child of vision, won't you listen?
    Find yourself a new ambition
    I've heard it all before
    You're saying nothing new
    I thought I saw a rainbow
But I guess it wasn't true
    You cannot make me listen
    I cannot make you hear
You find your way to heaven,
I'll meet you when you're there
How can you live in this way?
(Why do you think it's so strange?)
You must have something to say
(Tell me why should I change?)
We have no reason to fight,
'Cause we both know that we're right
Child of vision, won't you listen?
    Find yourself a new ambition

  • Child of Vision - Roger Hodgson of Supertramp, Writer and Composer

    6:35

Roger Hodgson, co-founder of Supertramp, is performing Child of Vision with his band on his Breakfast in America Tour. If you haven't seen him live, fans and reviewers are saying he sounds better than when he was with Supertramp. It is Roger's instantly recognizable voice and distinct melodies you are hearing when you listen to his timeless classics such as The Logical Song, Dreamer, Give a Little Bit, Take the Long Way Home, School, Hide in Your Shell, Fool's Overture and many more.

Roger is keeping the magic and spirit of his songs alive for fans all over the world. He performs in a variety of show formats - with band, with symphony orchestra, and solo. Come to a show and experience the magic for yourself!

    LYRICS:

Many of Roger's songs are often referred to as Supertramp songs, though Roger wrote and composed alone. In fact, many of Roger's songs he wrote before he co-founded Supertramp and many of them have become the soundtrack of our lives. The songs Roger sings lead vocals on are the ones he composed the music and lyrics for, and the songs Rick sings lead vocals on are the ones that he wrote. Read more -

I was a huge Supertramp fan growing up in the 70's and your songs certainly had an impact on my life. I know now that after hearing you perform these songs now that I am hearing them the way they were meant to be heard...and...after all these years they are even more meaningful and relevant than when I was growing up. Thank you Roger for your gift of music and love.

What a wonderful experience last night; a great sense of shared warmth; for music that has been held for years inside individuals as their own, melded with their personal memories and feelings, that suddenly not only belongs to others gathered around too, but suddenly seems to belong to one man yet even more powerfully and deeply. Of course! It's the performer; the very creator and artist himself; it's HIS music, and he's playing it just a few yards away..Fantastic.

No other performer who comes even close in connecting with and pleasing the audience like he does. I was truly amazed at the number of people who travelled long distances just for the shows.

Saying I love this song and I love Roger Hodgson is not enough. This guy is pure harmony on stage and off stage. This song goes straight to the softest spot inside me. I did not grow up with Supertramp as I am only as old as the songs. I have discovered him only two years ago and boy what a difference he has made to my life. Watching him on stage has basically been one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. Love him to bits.

Roger Hodgson has created music that will live forever. Our lives are that much better because of masters like Roger. Through all the roads we have gone down, Roger's music was there to make life a bit easier. The Beethoven of our times, Roger will be with us forever.

The songs Roger Hodgson sings that are often referred to as Supertramp songs are songs that Roger wrote and composed alone - that is how he creates music. He will often hear the musical composition first, and then the lyrics come. Sometimes he will hear the whole song complete inside himself before he puts it down on paper and recording.

So Supertramp as a band never wrote and composed together, there were only two songwriters for the band. The songs Roger sings lead vocals on are the ones he composed the music and lyrics for, and the songs Rick sings lead vocals on are the ones that he wrote.

    Fan experiences from Roger's shows:

As for the show, it was beyond my expectations to say the least. He's played these songs a thousand times, yet he has managed to keep the magic of every note, of every word, when he's playing them for us on stage.

Roger has a very unique way of communicating with the public through his music. It was like the evening was a privilege for both him and us in the audience...Like he was grateful for us to be there, and we felt lucky to share these moments with an incomparable artist.

His voice is still in great shape, and I'd even say that his performance has gotten even better with the years. Always smiling, he looks like he's gotten to a point in his life where he's enjoying and living the moment.

    The wild, wild, white
    A savage, unending frontier
I wonder what lies beyond the edge
On the far bank of a raging stream
    A glimpse of hope
    A field of green
This journey I have never known
Has brought me oh so far from home

    A place to rest
    Nothing to fear
    Should I press on?
    Will I die here?

The pains of hunger fill me up
The bitter taste of frozen blood
A makeshift bridge that sways and bows
    All at once I’m overthrown

    A place to rest
    Nothing to fear
    Should I press on?
    Will I die here?
    A place to rest
    Nothing to fear
    Should I press on?
    Will I die here?

    A Supertramp Tribute Band

This performance was jaw dropping. It was like turning the clock back 25 years. Roger's voice was as it was in Supertramp's heyday.

Wow! What a fantastic night! What a guy. What songs. What warmth from Roger to the audience and the audience to Roger. What a feel-good night. I turned to look at the faces in the circle and above and EVERYONES faces were alight with enjoyment. Fantastic! Please do it again soon. Absolutely brilliant...

  • Live Supertramp Breakfast in America without composer, singer Roger Hodgson

    2:45

This is Breakfast in America performed by Supertramp without Roger Hodgson. Roger is the actual writer and composer of this song. Roger wrote this song on his own and later recorded it with Supertramp. The band Supertramp did not write songs. They had two songwriters, Rick and Roger who wrote separately. Basically the songs on the albums that Roger sings are Rogers's songs and the songs Rick sings are Ricks songs. For example other songs Roger wrote and sings on are The Logical Song, Dreamer, Take the Long Way Home, Hide in Your Shell, Child of Vision, Fool's Overture and many others. Here is a video of Roger performing Breakfast in America at the Royal Albert Hall (and Roger's coming back to Albert Hall on April 29, 2016.)

When Roger Hodgson left Supertramp Rick agreed that the band would not play Roger's songs. Roger left with his voice and songs and Rick got the name Supertramp that Rick and his wife trademarked. And the band Supertramp became a vehicle for Rick's more jazzy blues style of music.

For all Supertramp and Roger Hodgson fans, Roger's Breakfast in America World Tour is selling out and has great reviews so go the official Roger Hodgson website to get the latest concert information, pictures, news and more at

Even though Roger is credited on Rick's songs he does not perform them in concert. I encourage everyone don't miss a change to hear Roger live in concert, he sounds even better today. I feel he sings from his heart and soul and he has a way of sharing his music that I find profound and touching.

Another artist who is similar to Roger is John Fogerty of Credence Clearwater Revival. I love to hear John sing his songs and there's no comparison for me when I hear the band Credence Clearwater Revisited sing John's songs. The bands Supertamp and Credence Clearwater Revisited just don't sound like the real deal. And many have commented you prefer hearing Roger sing his own songs and I would like to hear others thoughts on this. Please post you comments on this video.

Just wanted to say that I went to the Roger Hodgson concert and it may have been the BEST concert I have ever seen. Roger's voice is even better than it was when he was with Supertramp. My friends and I were blown away by the sheer talent Roger has. I would highly recommend anyone to go see Roger live if they can. Thank You Roger for a wonderful, entertaining night. ~ Danny

The name Roger Hodgson may not be familiar to some, but his voice will be. His songs have filled the airwaves for over three decades, with his former band Supertramp. During the evening, Roger had spoken about the healing effect of music and of forgetting your troubles for an hour or two, and that is exactly what happened to the audience. For any difficult times in your life, you should be able to get a show like the one Roger Hodgson gave us -- on prescription! Paul Ray ~ Fireworks Magazine

  • Breakfast in America Written & Composed by Roger Hodgson of Supertramp

    3:45

Roger comments on his evergreen classic, Breakfast in America: It's consistently one of the most popular songs in the set and it just seems to ignite a wave of joy in the audience when they hear the first chords. Never could I have imagined when I wrote this song at age 19 that it would be gaining in popularity, if that is even possible, over 40 years later. It's the playful, fun, jubilant quality that people love to hear and sing along to. ~ Roger Hodgson

Roger Hodgson, formerly of Supertramp, wrote & composed Breakfast in America, including all of the arrangements, when he was in his teens before he co-founded the band. Roger's Breakfast in America, the title track off the blockbuster album, was ruling the radio airwaves around the world in 1979. See Roger performing Breakfast in America & more in concert - or

Seeing Hodgson as a solo artist is every bit as entertaining as it was to see him as part of his former band, Supertramp. Fans expecting anything less than a full-scale night of hits and memories from this charismatic performer need not worry. ~Good Times Magazine

Roger Hodgson Co-founder of Supertramp wrote this song when he was just 17 years old; he radiates it when he sings it. It is signature Roger Hodgson, even though you may remember it from when Roger was with Supertramp. It's so incredible to hear it live directly from the person who wrote it.

    Shared thoughts from fans:

Hands down the best concert I have ever seen and I've seen everyone. No other artist comes even close to the intimacy and magic that Roger Hodgson creates in his shows. He holds his audience in his hands and they could not be happier.

Last night was by far the most inspirational and heartfelt concert I have EVER attended. What a great band you have put together. I kept commenting to my wife, that song was from his heart. We both did what you wanted everyone attending to do, left the show with a smile on our face and tears in our eyes. Great to have you back!!!
