    Order now: 2CD The Rock Legend: | CD The Composer: | DVD: | Blu-ray: | Box-Set:

On April 4, 2014, some of the best-loved musicians in the world assembled at the Royal Albert Hall to pay tribute to one of the most-missed musicians of them all: Jon Lord. “Celebrating Jon Lord” will be released as 1CD – The Composer, 2CD – The Rock Legend, 2DVD, Blu-ray, Box Set and Download on September 26th, 2014 on earMUSIC.
All product configurations feature individual cover artworks.

The Box Set features – besides the Blu-ray, 1CD The Composer and 2CD The Rock Legend – an exclusive T-shirt, a two-sided reproduction of an excerpt of Jon Lord’s original, handwritten music score for “Sarabande” - signed by Paul Mann as well as a 20 page reproduction of the evening’s original show program.
On top and as a real collector’s item, the box set also includes two very special 7-inch vinyls: the first featuring the hypnotic live version of Deep Purple’s classic “You Keep On Moving” with Glenn Hughes, Bruce Dickinson, Ian Paice, Don Airey and Micky Moody and on the B-side “Soldier Of Fortune”, both taken from the 2CD – The Rock Legend.
The second 7-inch vinyl stands in the tradition of Deep Purple as it includes the band’s touching live version of “Above And Beyond” originally from the no 1 album “NOW What?!” and here included in the magic Sunflower Jam 2014 live performance – a song dedicated to and inspired by Jon Lord. The B-side is dedicated to Lord‘s “Fantasia”.

Divided in two parts – the first focused on the classical music compositions, so dear to Jon Lord, and the second featuring a crescendo of emotions going through some of his highlights as a rock musician – the concert gave fans a chance to relive Jon Lord's remarkable and extensive musical career, remembering music from Paice, Ashton Lord, Deep Purple, his later classical compositions and everything in between – all in aid for the charity organization The Sunflower Jam.
The 83-piece Orion Orchestra performed, conducted by Paul Mann and accompanied by bands and artists such as Deep Purple, Paul Weller, Glenn Hughes, Bruce Dickinson, Rick Wakeman, Rick Wakeman, Miller Anderson, Steve Balsamo and many, many more.

All product configurations feature individual cover artworks which are revealed for the first time today!

Divided in two parts – the first focused on the classical music compositions, so dear to Jon Lord, and the second featuring a crescendo of emotions going through some of his highlights as a rock musician – the concert gave fans a chance to relive Jon Lord's remarkable and extensive musical career, remembering music from Paice, Ashton Lord, Deep Purple, his later classical compositions and everything in between – all in aid for the charity organization The Sunflower Jam.

the magical night in memory of the great man and musician
    featuring
    DEEP PURPLE
BRUCE DICKINSON, GLENN HUGHES, PAUL WELLER,
    RICK WAKEMAN
    and many others

To be released as DVD, Blu-Ray and CD by earMUSIC on 26th September 2014

It was in 2006 when, once a year, a group of stellar musicians and stars of rock started meeting up in London for a night of live music. The main intent was to raise money for a charity called The Sunflower Jam.
At first the rumours about these sessions with Deep Purple, Robert Plant, Brian May and Alice Cooper were too good to be true, to the point that a few thought that they were nothing else than an urban legend.
The Jam as it soon started to be called quickly became a cult night.
A real must first of all for the artists themselves, finally free and happy to leave their commercial thoughts outside the venue and able to enjoy playing music together with colleagues, friends and maybe even secret rivals and for the audience, who often could simply not believe their eyes.

The Sunflower Jam started as an idea from Jacky Paice, who very often could count on the drumming of her husband Ian. Who would turn down playing with him?

The first editions were mainly open to guests and music business professionals that would contribute to the charity. Later The Jam became too good not to be available for the public.

It is in one of the earlier SFJs that Jon Lord played for the last time with his friends with Deep Purple, duetting in a peaceful war of hammonds with Don Airey, who had replaced Lord in Deep Purple when he decided it was enough with a life spent on the road, and after a lifetime dedicated to rock and roll, Lord left to concentrate to his first love: classical music and the combination of rock elements in it.

2014: The Sunflower Jam is a now a regular sold out event. The fourth one at the Royal Albert Hall.
A night of great music but also an explosion of joy and will to live.

Jon Lord sadly passed away in 2012. Just a few weeks before the release of the just finished remake of what is universally known as the first ever meeting of classical music and rock. The Concerto For Group and Orchestra. The same composition that Purple played live in 1969 at the Royal Albert Hall.

Considering the amount of respect, friendship and love expressed on any occasion by anybody who had worked, played or simply met Jon Lord, it is not a surprise that the 2014 Jam would be dedicated totally to his music. The night turned out to be an historical moment in rock music: A full orchestra, a director - Paul Mann - crazy enough to give wonderful arrangements to a repertoire going back and forth through fifty years of music, many old friends for an unforgettable night.
The Albert Hall sold out to the last seat...

Jon's big musical loves were in the room, once again: same venue, many years later, many of the same people involved, a million times more the amount of emotions.
For four hours Jon's music was shining. Commotion, jokes, laughs and a lot of music came together by magic.
The result is the show you can now hear and watch.

All the wonderful musicians who played at the Celebrating Jon Lord Sunflower Jam have left a precious mark but how not to mention the 45 minutes finale by Deep Purple, the Purple Mk III songs played by Paice with the old friend Glenn Hughes, together with Iron Maiden´s Bruce Dickinson, Rick Wakeman's of Yes fame, Steve Balsamo (who sang in the late Jon Lord band and in his last studio album Concerto), members of The Temperance Movement, ex members of Whitesnake, Marsden and Moody, the modfather Paul Weller...

Everybody attending the show left the venue with an expression that clearly said one day I will be able to say I was there...
Now everybody will be able to see why.

    BIOGRAPHY:

British guitarist and songwriter, began his professional career as a session musician as a member of the instrumental band The Outlaws and as a backing musician of pop singers Glenda Collins, Heinz, Screaming Lord Sutch, Neil Christian, etc.. Blackmore was also one of the original members of Deep Purple, playing jam-style rock music which mixed simple guitar riffs and organ sounds During his solo career, he established neo-classical metal band called Rainbow which fused baroque music influences elements with hard rock. However, Rainbow gradually progressed to catchy pop style hard rock. Blackmore formed the traditional folk rock project Blackmore's Night transitioning to vocalist-centered sounds.

In 1969 Deep Purple premiered Jon Lord's groundbreaking Concerto For Group And Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall. Thirty years later, in September 1999, Deep Purple and the London Symphony Orchestra returned to the same venue for the concerto's second performance. The centrepiece of the concert is of course the concerto itself but it is preceded by a short set of other Jon Lord tracks, songs from Roger Glover's Butterfly Ball (sung by Ronnie James Dio) and Ian Paice's jazz arrangement of the early Purple classic Wring That Neck. Following the concerto are five Deep Purple classics culminating with Smoke On The Water.

Following the outstanding release and the great media echo of the 2014 edition of the Sunflower Jam ‘Celebrating Jon Lord’ in September 2014 (Nr.1 in the DVD/Blu-Ray Charts in five European territories), another great once-in-a-lifetime event is going to be released on February 27th, 2015 on earMUSIC.

‘Ian Paice’s Sunflower Superjam – Live At The Royal Albert Hall 2012’ will be available as CD+DVD and DVD+CD.

This spectacular live document is a feast for the eyes and ears. The record captures the second edition of the Sunflower Jam in what can be considered the most prestigious of all London venues: The Royal Albert Hall.
Before this successful edition, which was open to any rock fan, “the Jam” was a private charity event, organised by Deep Purple´s Ian Paice and his wife Jacky Paice, where the biggest stars of rock would jam and perform classic songs to raise contribution to charity causes.

‘Ian Paice’s Sunflower Superjam – Live At The Royal Albert Hall 2012’ couldn´t have turned more powerful, thanks to the contribution of Mark King (Level 42), delivering groovy renditions of two of his greatest hits with a legend of the Hammond organ: Brian Auger, who also plays on almost the whole show; Iron Maiden´s Bruce Dickinson, who lends his explosive voice for Thin Lizzy´s ‘Emerald’ and The Who´s ‘Behind Blue Eyes’, Alice Cooper playing with Ian Paice and Brian May his classics ‘Elected’ and ‘School´s Out’, or Bruce Dickinson, Brian May, John Paul Jones and Ian Paice (isn´t this a “dream band” or what?) teaming up for a rendition of Deep Purple’s ‘Black Night’.
British Blues Rockers The Temperance Movement, now a respected reality of UK rock music, made their debut in front of a large audience in this very show, while Steve Balsamo paid tribute to Jon Lord with ‘Pictured Within’, anticipating the great homage the Sunflower Jam would dedicate to Lord two years later with ‘Celebrating Jon Lord’.
Just when the Royal Albert Hall audience thought it simply couldn’t get any better, the final ‘Smoke on The Water’ literally caused an explosion of joy and celebration - A feeling that is present on each song of this exciting recording.

The DVD contains further bonus tracks by Brian May & Kerry Ellis, The Temperance Movement and Alfie Boe.

The 83-piece Orion Orchestra performed, conducted by Paul Mann and accompanied by bands and artists such as Deep Purple, Paul Weller, Glenn Hughes, Bruce Dickinson, Rick Wakeman, Rick Wakeman, Miller Anderson, Steve Balsamo and many, many more.

earMUSIC is revealing the first images from the show in a trailer video which includes excerpts from “Burn” (with Glenn Hughes, Bruce Dickison, Ian Paice, Don Airey and Rick Wakeman), The Artwood’s “Things Get Better” performed by Paul Weller, “This Time Around” performed by Glenn Hughes and of course, snippets of the grand Deep Purple finale including the songs “Uncommon Man”, “Perfect Strangers” and “Hush” featuring Bruce Dickinson, Rick Wakeman, Phil Campbell, Bernie Marsden and Micky Moody.
