Danna has created scores for a long and varied list of films. His credits include such diverse projects as the hit film adaptations of the video game/action franchises Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2; the Ryan Gosling-Anthony Hopkins legal drama Fracture; The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus and Tideland, both directed by Terry Gilliam; Lakeview Terrace, directed by Neil LaBute; a series of films for director Brett Morgen, including The Kid Stays in The Picture, Chicago 10, and, most recently, the Kurt Cobain biopic Montage of Heck; Closing the Ring for director Richard Attenborough; and the cult classic The Boondock Saints, among others.

Additionally, his collaborative Orchestral Celtic albums with his brother, composer Mychael Danna, have enjoyed worldwide success and placed in the Top Ten on the Billboard chart in the United States.

In 2015, Jeff and Mychael worked on the score for The Good Dinosaur and received an Annie® nomination for Outstanding Achievement, Music in an Animated Feature Production. Jeff and Mychael also wrote the original score for the animated film Storks and for Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk directed by Ang Lee which were both released in 2016.

For television, Jeff and Mychael wrote the original music for the FX series Tyrant, which earned them both Emmy® nominations in the categories of Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score) and Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music in 2015. They were previously Emmy®-nominated for Camelot in 2011.

This year Jeff’s work can be heard on the Netflix series Alias Grace, and the animated feature The Breadwinner, for the celebrated Cartoon Saloon studio in Ireland.

Josh Orange - Little Miss America Official Music Video

    Artist City, Country: Sydney, Australia

Artist Bio: Little Miss America is by Sydney, Australia’s Josh Orange, a folk-rock group with just a dollop of Dublin, Ireland in lead singer and songwriter Gordon Burke. The line-up rounded out by guitarists Andrew Wass and Shane McLaughlin, with Alex Miller driving the drum-kit.
As Burke tells it, Little Miss America came about after he spent a night in Kris Kristofferson’s old Nashville apartment during a trip to the US late in 2018.
“I couldn’t sleep. I’m in this tiny one-bedroom apartment with all kinds of guitars on the wall, and I’m going through the pictures painted by Kris in his song Sunday Morning Coming Down…the closet, the bathroom, the walk down to the street.
The vibe in the place was just electric, and I spent the night writing the song.
I finished the lyrics in New York after having breakfast in the West Side Avenue diner Miss America. The waitress in the diner very much inspired the lyric. I hope she forgives my never getting to ask her name. The experience was incredibly powerful.”
Josh Orange already have several albums under their collective belt and are proud to have won a rock category prize in 2015’s The Great American Song Contest.
Little Miss America is the first single off their forthcoming album, 'Midnight Lights', scheduled for release in August and distributed through Believe Music.

    Song Lyrics: Little Miss America

She’s sucking on a cigarette coz she likes how it feels
It's ten minutes out from the grind of the wheel
She tried to be a movie star, but she didn’t make the grade
Now she’s alright with that she’s got a job she’s getting paid
And everybody loves her here in America
It ain’t about the money it’s the way she makes them feel
She’s laughing hard in the middle of America
    Melting hearts of steel
She stays away from trouble yeah but she knows how to fight
She’s been around the block a few times alright
And she ain’t about the giving up
But she knows how to take its pretty hard around here just to cop a break
And everybody loves her here in America
She knows all the regulars by their first names
She’s doing alright little miss America
She don’t look for much she don’t lay the blame
And all she feels through the cold days when winters here
Christmas time and the end of the year
She comes up against the fear she puts her head up and kicks up the gears
She prays everything will be alright when summer comes
She has a god she calls her own and that helps her to feel
She’s doing her bit keeping up her side of the deal
She doesn’t ask for money no and she doesn’t ask for fame
But she’s a star around here everybody knows her name
And everybody loves her here in America
Everybody knows her by her first name
She’s laughing hard in the middle of America
Where melting hearts is her game

  • John Denver - Thank God Im a Country Boy - Thank God Im a Country Boy

    5:05

    John Denver - Thank God I'm a Country Boy (22 March1977) - Thank God I'm a Country Boy

“Thank God I’m a Country Boy” was a March 22, 1977 ABC television special. It starred John Denver as host, Johnny Cash, Roger Miller, Glen Campbell, and Mary Kay Place...

John Denver sings his iconic song “Thank God I’m a Country Boy.” He is accompanied by Johnny Cash (guitar), Roger Miller (fiddle) and Glen Campbell (banjo).

Thank God I'm a Country Boy, also known as Country Boy, is a song written by John Martin Sommers and recorded by American singer/songwriter John Denver. The song was originally included on Denver's 1974 album Back Home Again. A version recorded live on August 26, 1974 at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles was included on his 1975 album An Evening with John Denver. The live version was released as a single and went to No. 1 on both the Billboard magazine Hot Country Singles and Billboard Hot 100 charts. The song topped both charts for one week each, first the country chart (on May 31), and the Hot 100 chart a week later.

Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. (December 31, 1943 – October 12, 1997), known professionally as John Denver, was an American musician, singer-songwriter, record producer, activist, actor, and humanitarian, whose greatest commercial success was as a solo singer, starting in the 1970s. He was one of the most popular acoustic artists of the decade and one of its best-selling artists. By 1974, he was firmly established as America's best-selling performer, and AllMusic has described Denver as among the most beloved entertainers of his era. After traveling and living in numerous locations while growing up in his military family, Denver began his music career in folk music groups in the late 1960s. Throughout his life, Denver recorded and released approximately 300 songs, about 200 of which he composed, with total sales of over 33 million.

Glen Travis Campbell (born April 22, 1936) is an American rock and country music singer, guitarist, songwriter, television host, and occasional actor. He is best known for a series of hits in the 1960s and 1970s, and for hosting a music and comedy variety show called The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour on CBS television from January 1969 through June 1972.

During his 50 years in show business, Campbell has released more than 70 albums. He has sold 45 million records and accumulated 12 RIAA Gold albums, four Platinum albums and one Double-platinum album. He has placed a total of 80 different songs on either the Billboard Country Chart, Billboard Hot 100, or the Adult Contemporary Chart, of which 29 made the top 10 and of which nine reached number one on at least one of those charts. Campbell's hits include his recordings of John Hartford's Gentle on My Mind; Jimmy Webb's By the Time I Get to Phoenix, Wichita Lineman, and Galveston; Larry Weiss's Rhinestone Cowboy; and Allen Toussaint's Southern Nights.

Campbell made history in 1967 by winning four Grammys total, in the country and pop categories.[2] For Gentle on My Mind, he received two awards in country and western, By the Time I Get to Phoenix did the same in pop. Three of his early hits later won Grammy Hall of Fame Awards (2000, 2004, 2008), while Campbell himself won the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012. He owns trophies for Male Vocalist of the Year from both the Country Music Association (CMA) and the Academy of Country Music (ACM), and took the CMA's top award as 1968 Entertainer of the Year. In 1969, actor John Wayne picked Campbell to play alongside him in the film True Grit, which gave Campbell a Golden Globe nomination for Most Promising Newcomer. Campbell sang the title song which was nominated for an Academy Award.

    Alzheimer's diagnosis...

In June 2011, Campbell announced he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease six months earlier. According to his family, symptoms of the disease had been occurring for years, becoming more and more evident as the years progressed.

Campbell went on a final Goodbye Tour, with three of his children joining him in his backup band; his final show was on November 30, 2012, in Napa, California.[During the tour's concerts and rehearsals, Campbell would often forget which songs he was supposed to play, repeating them after finishing a performance. He also frequently had to be reminded that he did have the disease, and relied on a teleprompter to remember the lyrics to most songs. Newer songs from his later albums had to be scrapped altogether, as Campbell struggled to remember the chords and lyrics for these. He performed Rhinestone Cowboy as a goodbye at the 2012 Grammy Awards ceremony held on February 12, 2012, his final televised on-stage performance.

  • Moving Hearts live 1981

    48:29

For fans of the unique Irish band Moving Hearts, this video will be an invaluable memento. It is almost impossible to find anywhere. This copy clearly came via a wobbly VHS tape and so the video and, at times, audio quality isn't great. Personally I don't care. To be able to see these wonderful songs performed by the original line-up is priceless. There is a stunning version of No time for love as well as the closing Hiroshima Nagasaki. Songs are as follows with timings:

    00.00 - Faithful Departed
05.33 - One Last Cold Kiss
    09.46 - McBrides
13.54 - No Time For Love
24.05 - True Love Knows No Season
    28.35 - Landlord
    32.00 - Before The Deluge
    38.52- Category
42.40 - Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Russian Roulette

    Band line-up:
    Christy Moore
    Donal Lunny
    Davey Spillane
    Brian Calnan
    Keith Donald
    Declan Sinnott
    Eoghan O'Neill

In my opinion the finest group that Ireland ever produced.

  • Blue Ridge Memory - Karen Nichols

    5:11

Though decidedly versatile, blending more than one style, Karen's album Mountain People is regional in flavor, and would belong in the category of Folk/Celtic or Americana. Within that however, there are distinct strands of jazz......she has been compared to Bruce Hornsby....for example on the Shenandoah arrangement -- and on Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, one can hear her attachment to the voicings and style of Randy Newman. It is almost indescribable and unique...and that is her strength as an artist. Vocally, her Celtic originals sound traditional and are reflective of years of steeping in the music of British, Irish, and Scottish folk rock groups such as Pentangle, singers Maddy Pryor, June Tabor, and Lorena McKennitt....the songs are extraordinarily beautiful and other-worldly.

Karen Nichols is a multitalented keyboard player, singer, and songwriter. A graduate of the University of Virginia and St. Mary's College in Moraga, California (graduate teaching credentials) She spent the first 25 years of her life on the east coast, in Virginia, then moved to Los Angeles, and eventually the Bay Area. Her musicianship developed dramatically on the west coast, and she became quite versatile, playing and singing pop music, cabaret, jazz, and country. The last several years have been spent back in Virginia, in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and this is the wellspring of her album Mountain People released in October of 2010.

Karen is the founder of Mountain Lark Music Studio -- a teaching studio: Located in Bedford, Virginia, this studio provides piano lessons, voice lessons, composition and notation.

In the beginning of this video, Jaren makes mention of a film, but I had not started shooting this video soon enough to include her entire explanation, which is this: In 2016, Jaren had landed a principle role in an Irish/Canadian feature film, Song Of Granite, a biopic about the life of legendary Irish Sean-nós singer Joe Heaney. Song Of Granite has been chosen as Ireland's 2017 submission for the Oscars foreign language category!

Jaren has been a worldwide chart-topping Trance and Folk recording artist, and we were lucky to have her spontaneously join us for this jam. Originally from Wyoming, she now lives in Montreal. She was here in Wyoming to join family in celebrating the Total Solar Eclipse at Sunrise, Wyoming (a ghost town/archeological wonder which is owned by her father, John Voight—seated to her left, with a guitar). Davey

Punk rock with a mandolin anyone?? Check out the Official DAVEY video clip from the 2006 album The Hungry Mile.

The Go Set have been likened to many of their musical influenes, from punk bands such as Rancid, The Clash and Green Day, to the strong Celtic and Folk undertones that put them in the same category as bands like the Dropkick Murphys, and even more acoustic versions such as Frank Turner, or fellow Englishman Billy Bragg. They combine traditional folk instruments such as bagpipes, accordian, and fiddle, with distorted guitars and a punk rock attitude, traversing the line between folk music, punk rock, and acoustic protest songs. Singer/songwriter Justin Keenan often cited Flogging Molly, Shane McGowan, the Pogues, and even gypsy infusions of Gogol Bordello alongside these comparisons too. If you like folk, rock and punk music mixed together in a chaotic live show hybrid, you'll love this!!

  • Turkey in the Straw Instrumental Folk Song Dance with United States Air Force Band and USAF Strings

    1:48

Turkey in the Straw Instrumental Folk Song Dance performed by the United States Air Force Band and USAF Strings. Turkey in the Straw is a very popular American folk song and dance dating from the early 19th century. The original lyrics author and melody composer appear to be unknown, although the initial tune may be based on a ballad My Grandmother Lived on Yonder Little Green which is similar to an old Irish fiddle tune The Old Rose Tree. There are a number of variations of the song lyrics – this version is attributed to John Renfro Davis. This fast instrumental version is performed by the United States Air Force Band Strings Section. The USAF band is currently based at Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C. and has six groups: The Concert Band; Singing Sergeants; Airmen of Note; Air Force Strings; Ceremonial Brass; and Max Impact. The groups provide a wide variety of musical genres including - classical, jazz, popular, patriotic and ceremonial music. The video image shows a Pilgrim Turkey with a Signboard. LYRICS - JOHN RENFRO DAVIS:

    Verse 1
As I was a-gwine down the road,
With a tired team and a heavy load,
I crack'd my whip and the leader sprung,
I says day-day to the wagon tongue.
Turkey in the straw, turkey in the hay,
Roll 'em up and twist 'em up a high tuckahaw
And twist 'em up a tune called Turkey in the Straw.

    Verse 2
Went out to milk, and I didn't know how,
I milked the goat instead of the cow.
A monkey sittin' on a pile of straw,
    A-winkin' at his mother-in-law.
Turkey in the straw, turkey in the hay,
Roll 'em up and twist 'em up a high tuckahaw
And twist 'em up a tune called Turkey in the Straw.

    Verse 3
Met Mr. Catfish comin' down stream.
Says Mr. Catfish, What does you mean?
Caught Mr. Catfish by the snout,
And turned Mr. Catfish wrong side out.
Turkey in the straw, turkey in the hay,
Roll 'em up and twist 'em up a high tuckahaw
And twist 'em up a tune called Turkey in the Straw.

    Verse 4
Came to a river and I couldn't get across,
    Paid five dollars for a blind old hoss;
Wouldn't go ahead, nor he wouldn't stand still,
So he went up and down like an old saw mill.
Turkey in the straw, turkey in the hay,
Roll 'em up and twist 'em up a high tuckahaw
And twist 'em up a tune called Turkey in the Straw.

    Verse 5
As I came down the new cut road,
Met Mr. Bullfrog, met Miss Toad
And every time Miss Toad would sing,
Old Bullfrog cut a pigeon wing.
Turkey in the straw, turkey in the hay,
Roll 'em up and twist 'em up a high tuckahaw
And twist 'em up a tune called Turkey in the Straw.

    Verse 6
Oh I jumped in the seat and I gave a little yell
The horses ran away, broke the wagon all to hell
Sugar in the gourd and honey in the horn
I never been so happy since the day I was born.
Turkey in the straw, turkey in the hay,
Roll 'em up and twist 'em up a high tuckahaw
And twist 'em up a tune called Turkey in the Straw.
