  • PETER MAFFAY with YOU. -- 1970.

    4:55

Peter Alexander Makkay (born 30 August 1949 in Braşov, Romania), better known as Peter Maffay, is a German musician.

Born in Braşov, Romania, the son of a German (Transylvanian Saxon), he was 14 when his family relocated to his parents' (West) Germany in 1963. In the same year, he started his first band, The Dukes. After completing his education and working for Chemigraphics, an art manufacturer, Maffay worked in clubs, where he distributed his music.

Peter Maffay's career started with the publication of his first single, Du (You in German). It was the biggest German hit in 1970 and brought Maffay instant fame. With the album Steppenwolf in 1979, Maffay became a major music star in Germany. The album sold 1.6 million copies, making it the best selling LP at that time. In 1980, the album Revanche (Revenge) broke his previous record, selling 2.1 million copies.

Maffay holds the German record for the most number one ranked singles in the single and album sales charts, including 12 albums. In addition, most of his studio albums reached the top ten. He also holds a German record for most albums to have sold over one million copies, with 14. His 2005 album,Laut und Leise (Loud and Quiet), became the fourteenth.

Altogether, Maffay has sold over 35 million records, which makes him one of the top selling artists in Germany. Since 1980, each of his 13 tours (roughly every 2 years) has ranked among the three most visited attractions each season in Germany, with nine of them ranked first in that category.

Maffay also created a string of fairy tales about a little green dragon named Tabaluga, which was spread out onto five albums. The piece was also turned into a musical. Maffay went on tour individually with Tabaluga & Lilli in Germany; he later released a live album, DVD and live TV broadcast. The tour included Peter Maffay, Alexis, Nino de Angelo, Rufus Beck, and Carl Carlton among others.

In 1998, Maffay created an album in collaboration with artists from all corners of the world, including Aboriginal singers and musicians from Israel, called Begegnungen. Julia Neigel, another famous German artist, is one of the musicians he usually works with in lyrics and singing in duets. She wrote two of his top singles - Freiheit Die Ich Meine and Siehst Du die Sonne, a cover of Michel Polnareff's La poupeé qui fait non.

He also starred in two films directed by Peter Patzak: Der Joker in 1986, and Gefangen im Jemen in 1999, for which Tony Carey provided the soundtrack. In addition, Maffay played a supporting role in the feature Der Eisbär.

On 12 March 2011, Maffay received the Steiger Award (Germany).

    Personal life

Peter Maffay is active in politics and sometimes inserts his own political stances into his music. He is a peace activist, and in 2005 he performed a concert for German ISAF troops in Afghanistan. Maffay also donates to projects for traumatised and abused children. On the Spanish island of Majorca, he established a ranch where traumatised children from all over the world can have a free two-week holiday to help them cope with their problems. For his social commitment, he received the Bundesverdienstkreuz in 1996, and, in 2001, he received an award called Goldene Henne (The Golden Hen).

Peter Maffay has been married four times, has a son and lives with his family on a farm on Majorca. One of his hobbies is motorcycle riding. In 1972, Maffay was severely injured in an accident after crashing his Harley Davidson. Later in life, he crossed the Sahara Desert several times on an off-road motorcycle.

Since the beginning of Maffay's musical career, Carl Carlton has played guitar in many projects. Likewise, for many years, Bertram Engel (drums), Ken Taylor (bass), and Jean-Jacques Kravetz (piano) have worked with Maffay as well. Some time later, Jean-Jaques Kravetz brought his son Pascal Kravetz (guitar) with him into the fold. In 2004, Frank Dietz, Andreas Becker, some of Maffay's friends from the band left to pursue other projects. The American keyboard player Tony Carey, who produced many of his records also took part in his live band for many years. The newest addition to the band is the Hamburg guitarist, Peter Keller.

  • Sjaella and Just 6 – A German-South African Collaboration | Music Documentary

    25:51

Sjaella and Just 6, two a cappella groups from totally different music cultures, are singing together for the first time; the result is an incomparable concert and new friendships across borders! Sjaella is a German vocal ensemble from Leipzig. The six young women's repertoire contains a wide range of traditional European songs. The South African vocal band Just 6 - made up of just six male voices without instruments - comes from Johannesburg. They call their fresh style afro vocal play.
Sjaella and Just 6 meet at the Campus Project of the Beethovenfest. Together with Deutsche Welle, the Beethovenfest's Campus Project has been bringing young musicians from around the world together since 2001. In 2019, the music workshop is taking place in South Africa. In this multi-cultural nation, group singing is a popular way of making music and forms part of the country's identity. During the apartheid era, choral music became a means of protest against discrimination and oppression.
African vocal music meets traditional European song. The highlight is a joint concert at the Beethovenfest in Bonn, accompanied by the German National Youth Orchestra - a concert as colorful and multifaceted as life itself in the Rainbow Nation.

Three very talented musicians a year younger than me wrote a piece for pianist, electric guitarist and drummer, and immediately have performed on multiple occasions, touring as far as Hanau in Germany. All you need to do is post your music( part of is fine) in a video responce along with just a picture and i will get the people involved to look at the responces, and if they like your style it will be up to them to get in touch!

    E MAIL SENT TO ME
    ------------------------

    Hi Jonathan,
I've been a fan since the very beginning of your youtube-career.
    Anyway: I need your help.
I'm startin up my own label with a friend of mine in the near future. We mainly focus on electrohouse oriented tracks and would like to release on Vinyl and digital.
Now here is where you can help us:
Because you got such a massive amount of people watching your stuff, you are able to reach many of those we are looking for:
Young people who have been producing electro / house tracks, and actually think they're making proper stuff.(( Johnathan:- to be honest you can be 97yrs old and if you can make music that kicks ass then go for it!!)
We want young, smart bedroom-producers from all around the world who send in the very best they've ever done to us. We want to find good artists for our very first release.
So if there is anyone out there who thinks he can put a proper track together and wants his( her) stuff to be released on a new upcoming german label, then this is your chance! We want you!
So maybe you can do a video and make contact with young artists, and help an idea become true. Or you know another great way to do this, maybe in a competition or something.
Hopefully you like the idea :)

    7:31

    For further information, please visit:

    Song: Di Goldene Khasene
comp. Kandel's Jewish Orchestra / arr. Yxalag
New Album: Klezmer Tales - Filfarbike Mishpokhe

    Now available here:

Pictures from the summer tour 2016

YXALAG is the name of the crane that guides the band on its global flight through their third studio album: Filfarbike Mishpoke. Eleven musical declarations of love for klezmer in all its nomadic variety with well-known klezmer traditionals and own compositions from clarinettist Jakob Lakner. Intimate duets, a string quartet between baroque and folk and thunderous octets with esprit and dynamism chase each other in different instrumentations. Following their extremely successful debut album ‘A Yiddishe Mame’ and their second album ‘Fargint Zikh’, which was highly praised in the music press and nominated for the German Record Critics‘ Award in the ‘Border Crossings’ category, Yxalag has set yet another milestone in the contemporary klezmer scene together with their producer, conductor and clarinettist Bernd Ruf.

Original klezmer at its best and then something completely different. A musical diversity, played, no, lived by a group of superb, young musicians. Always on the wing, following the cry of the Yxalag crane, from land to land, from klezmer to swing, from classical to Balkan, from duet to octet, fiddled, plucked and blown – all in the authentic Yiddish way.
For YXALAG, klezmer is more than just a musical genre. Klezmer stands for passion, melancholy and a love of playing, which is omnipresent and which Yxalag seeks in all things. This love of playing is at the centre of everything, preserving the fire in the words of Mahler. Yxalag transcend the borders of genre, tear down walls and leave the beaten track far behind them. Yxalag’s music embodies a Europe without borders and without prejudices.
Nothing stops the flight of the Yxalag crane.

    Instrumentation:
    Jakob Lakner, clarinet
    Nele Schaumburg, violin
    Kayako Bruckmann, violin
    Juliane Färber, violin

  • João Pedro Teixeira - Accordion I Tour Germany/Austria

    10:25

    Contact:

João Pedro Teixeira's solo performances are distinct. Audiences can detect multiple musicians through an artist of universal ability. His two accordions (piano and eight-bass diatonic), on which he plays his own compositions and interpretations, reveal a musician without category or label.
Still, João is well versed in his cultural roots, executing delicate and sophisticated pieces. His broad repertoire encompasses a variety of rhythms from Brazil and Latin America, jazz, and classical music. Compositions by his mentor and friend Hermeto Pascoal are salient in Joo's performances.

The Booth is unscripted and unplanned. We wanted to give our musicians the chance to enjoy themselves while exploring the keyboards and pianos here in store.

@chrisonpiano spent some time looking through the pianos, electric pianos (inc Fender Rhodes types) and guitars (inc ukulele) on Yamaha's flagship keyboard called the Genos. As you'd expect from Yamaha, who make some of the worlds best concert grand pianos, the pianos here are exquisite. And because Yamaha were pioneers of electric pianos with their DX keyboards in the 1980s these are reproduced perfectly too. Guitars are a notoriously difficult instrument to capture on a keyboard instrument but here we have a excellent classical guitar, steel stringed acoustic and look out for the Dire Straits style resonator guitar which gets Chris very excited. An honourable mention for Chris's attempt at Hotel California by the Eagles too. Sorry to any Eagles fans out there.

  • Wellenfeld - Voyager

    5:53

Wellenfeld are German musicians Andreas Brand and Detlef Dominiczak.
The Duo „Wellenfeld created their debut-album „Cosmic Waves in the years 2003 and 2004. With their song Monolith the two Ruhrpottler Andreas Braun and Detlef Dominiczak reached top score at the Schwingungen-election 2003 in the category best song. This is remarkable for newcomers with a new Electronical Music which is signified by a distinctive style from the very beginning on. Both musicians basically differ in their own musical background. Until the project Wellenfeld had been founded, Detlef, the older one, only consumed music passively, preferably Krautrock, whereas Andreas started to produce Techno and EBM-productions already in the 90th. Their background could not be more different. The Wellenfeld-style can be described as rhythm-accented and spherical with a high recognition factor.
For sure, the song is not dedicated to a gentleman(haha). OK. She is a singer who has been cooperating with me during the past 3 months. We held 5 concerts and recorded songs in studio rooms. It must be a great experience .Her life is full of fantasy, she is into various illusive things including music. Seemingly ,she also lives in an unhurried way ,being careless.Whereas sometimes she becomes a little self-abased just like being covered by mist. Luckily, we all trust that the star eyes inside her will never fall down. I will accompany her until she achieves her dream in any identity.

What better way to celebrate their 30th Band anniversary as by diving deep into their own history, spanning three decades of an incomparable Metal career -- from the humble beginnings in the early 1980s with their debut attempt »Prayers of Steel« and back then calling themselves AVENGER, through the flourishing 90s that peaked in their 1996 classic approach »Lingua Mortis«, all the way to the most recent years, which also featured RAGE coming in third at the Bundesvision Songcontest in 2009, carving a quarter of a century in stone even more so!
Garnish all this with 21 albums released to date and add in some lineup changes and you not only get your average German Metal combo, but a gathering of brilliant musicians that keep reinventing their own sound with every new creative vision to come. Or simply: RAGE!

2014 sees the trio with its lineup consisting of Peavy Wagner, Victor Smolski and André Hilgers far from retiring, yet revisiting their own back catalogue and uncovering a series of previously unreleased songs or versions, demo recordings and fractions of ideas, that finally went to find clear sonic ground. »The Soundchaser Archives« holds a full run of two CDs and will be released on May 23, 2014 via Nuclear Blast.

  • Jovano Jovanke - Yxalag Klezmer Band

    9:51

    For further information, please visit:

Song: Jovano Jovanke, traditional / arr. Yxalag
New Album: Klezmer Tales - Filfarbike Mishpokhe

    Now available here:

Pictures from the summer tour 2015 with cd-release.

Jakob Lakner, clarinet (jazz clarinettist and composer)
Nele Schaumburg, violin (dogma chamber orchestra, music teacher)
    Kayako Bruckmann, violin (Lübeck Theatre)

Luka Stankovic, trombone (freelancer, teacher, Mannes College New York)
Nicolas Kücken, guitar (music teacher and producer)
Ulrich Zeller, double bass (Munich Philharmonic)

  • The Edge - MUSICIAN BATTLE Feat. Segalacious of Oh So Jiggly

    18:24

    Check out Segalacious!:

In the blue corner, the Edge! He is the guitar player from U2 and considered one of the most successful musicians of all time. His delayed guitar style has been studied and respected throughout the rock an roll world. In the red corner, we have Sugizo! Guitar player for Luna Sea and X Japan which are the two most inspirational rock bands in all of Japan.

=========== YOU BE THE JUDGE! ====================
    Categories:
    1. Technical Skills in Guitar
    2. Guitar Composition
    3. Soundtrack Composition
    4. Rock Music Composition
    5. Overall enjoyment
    6. Influence
Each category will be rated out of 10. Example let’s compare Lil Wayne to Hizaki
    1. Technical Guitar Skills LW: 1 HIZ: 10
    2. Guitar solo composition LW: 0 HIZ: 9
    3. Soundtrack composition LW: 1 HIZ: 5
    4. Rock Music Composition LW: 0 HIZ: 6
    5. Over all enjoyment LW: 6 HIZ: 9
Here’s a template for Sugizo and the Edge
    1. Technical Guitar Skills The EDGE:00 SUGIZO:00
    2. Guitar composition THE EDGE:00 SUGIZO:00
    3. Soundtrack composition THE EDGE:00 SUGIZO:00
    4. Rock Music Composition THE EDGE:00 SUGIZO:00
    5. Over all enjoyment THE EDGE:00 SUGIZO:00
    6. Influence(optional) THE EDGE:00 SUGIZO:00

Try to watch all of the videos in their completion…but you can skip ahead if a song is taking a while to start.
    Note to Guest Judges:
If you feel any pressure on grading these musicians, just give it your best shot. You can be as critical or as lenient as you want. All of the other judges are in depth musicians and therefore are unable to hear with the “casual ear”. That’s where the guest judges are able to shine. You automatically have a different perspective than them and may even come up with totally different numbers which is okay.

    Guitar Solos:
In this section you can rate their “Guitar Solo composition” and “Technical Skills of Guitar”. Keep in mind that sometimes simple guitar solos can be really good (or bad), so if you like the sound of the guitar solo, then add points to the “Guitar Composition”. If a guitarist is incorporating complex techniques, then that adds to the technical skills.
    THE EDGE

    SUGIZO

    Soundtrack Composition:
This is the special category for this battle. These songs showcase how the musicians write outside of the verse, chorus, and verse structure. I tried to pick one of each that followed a scene or a trailer. In this case it was an opening for the Edge and a trailer for Sugizo. The other song is a standalone theme.
    THE EDGE

    SUGIZO

    Rock Composition:
In this category you can determine the “Rock Composition” After you’ve heard everything you can go back and change your Guitar technical skills or other scores if you need to. After watching all of the videos, you can score the “Overall enjoyment” of the musician. If there’s something in particular about the bands you don’t like such as Bono’s voice or Ryuichi’s voice, try not to let it influence your score on The Edge and Sugizo. You can also add or take away from the “guitar composition” in this section as well.
    THE EDGE
    Bullet the Blue Sky:

Sunday Bloody Sunday: (most sources say the Edge wrote it before he was even in U2)

    Unforgettable Fire:

Note: “With or Without You” is not included since the Edge’s role was pretty minor in composing the song.
    OPTIONAL SONG:
Streets have no name: He is widely credited to writing most of the song

    SUGIZO:
    Déjà vu:

    In Silence:

    I for You

    OPTIONAL SONG
    Love Song:

Note: On all of the Edge’s songs, they are not 100% his compositions. Many times he worked with other members of the band to sometimes achieve the melody. Sometimes he would come up with the riff and the band mates would build on that. Sugizo on the other hand, receives 100% composition credit on all of his Luna Sea songs though he is known to collaborate to get the right drum part or bass line. This doesn’t have to influence your score in any way. Just keep in mind that it’s two different types of approaches to composition going on.

Influence: For this category, research both Sugizo and The Edge.

  • Dangerous Monitor ST 🇩🇪 Erster Eindruck feat. Nick Hepfer

    10:47

    || Short Bio: My name is Marc Mozart, mix engineer, award-winning music producer and director of the Social Media- and Music- Digital Agency Mozart & Friends. I grew up in a musicians family, recorded and mixed music since my early childhood, cutting reel to reel-tape with a razor-blade, and got my first major breakthrough in Frankfurt during the rise of German Techno and Eurodance-Music in the early 1990s.

Later on, I spent time in New York, worked and teamed up with various A&R-managers and producers from P.Diddys “Bad Boy”-camp as well as Izzy Zivcovic, who later on managed Kanye West.

In the 2000s, together with the Mozart & Friends-team of music producers and songwriters, I have produced, written and remixed more than 70 charting bestsellers around the world. This includes No.1 singles and albums which received multiple gold/platinum awards.

In 2014, I wrote the book YOUR MIX SUCKS, which is now one of the leading books of our time on the topic of audio mixing and mastering. The book started something through which I somehow became a known Internet personality in the field of music, mixing and mastering with 100.000+ followers across my social channels. My German podcast show “Studio-Breakfast” regularly leads the German Apple Podcast charts in the music category. ||

  • Jazzrausch Bigband – Dancing Wittgenstein | Russia Tour 2019

    3:08

    Dancing Wittgenstein | Russia Tour 2019 | Ural Music Nights, Yekaterinburg | 27th - 30th June 2019

A meltdown of big band sound with house and techno music. (Süddeutsche Zeitung)

With an average of 120 concerts a year, troughout Europe and visiting America, Asia and Africa, the Jazzrausch Bigband is one of the busiest bigbands of Europe. With power, groove and enormous stage presence (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung), the band equally reaches audiences from jazz and electronic music.

The driving forces behind the Jazzrausch Bigband project are the Munich-based trombonist and music manager Roman Sladek and the guitarist and composer Leonhard Kuhn, also living in Munich. The nucleus and starting point of the musical journey is a Munich institution: the Harry Klein, one of the most renowned electro clubs in Europe. In 2015, just one year after its founding, JRBB became artist in residence at the club - and the young Munich audience went nuts. A big band in the Techno Club! Totally unique! For Munich and the world! Soon, the stages are getting bigger, the band is selling out rock venues like the Munich Muffathalle, as well as classical music temples like the Munich Philharmonic and is performing at major festivals all over Germany. Tours soon take them to the Lincoln Center in New York, the JZ Festival in Shanghai, the Safaricom International Jazz Festival in Nairobi, the Ural Music Night in Yekaterinburg and the SXSW Music Festival in Austin and others.

So it's not an exaggeration to call the Jazzrausch Bigband a phenomenon. One that shows in a very own way, what has been simmering and bubbling for a long time in this genre called jazz: today, more than ever before, it is a category for all that does not fit into categories. And everybody, the musicians as well as the audience, enjoy tearing down musical boundaries of all kinds. In this context, the music of JRBB seems to fulfill various longings: The desires of the dance audience for more genuine, handmade, fresh, original music. And those of the jazz and classical listeners to more groove, big sound and great fun.

  • Battle of the Alpine Horns

    2:24

Once a year, the world’s top alpine horn musicians gather high in the Swiss Alps to compete for a special honor. The Valais Drink Pure Festival in Nendaz, Switzerland, is an international meeting of alphorn players where the best of the best come to play the iconic elongated horn in its traditional Swiss setting. While 16-year-old Tim Lin might seem like an unlikely alphorn enthusiast, he is quite the prodigy. Born in Germany to a Chinese father and a Belarusian mother, Lin took home last year’s top prize in the youth category, and hopes to do it again this year.
