  • Buddy Guy 1965 - Out of Sight

    2:25

This clip features a cover of James Brown´s song. It's not his famous Brand new Bag . See the comments for this.

It is taken from the video of the American Folk Blues Festival 1965 - a tour of famous American Blues Musicians in Europe.

Of course the song is not Blues and I imagine that the European Audience reacted to this completely new music a bit like the London audience when Bob Dylan put his acoustic guitar aside and became electric.

Enjoy the young Buddy Guy, who is still going strong today. Long may he live !

Bootsy Collins performing Ahh...The Name Is Bootsy, Baby, The Pinocchio Theory, and Hollywood Squares at BB King Blues Club in NYC 6-13-12.

Yes, the sound is obviously jacked-up. No surprise considering I was standing right in front of the stage, about 10 feet away from one of Bootsy's amp stacks (I could actually feel the air the amp was pushing out blowing against me). Hopefully, you can enjoy the visuals and the moments Bootsy lays back on the bass a little, but if not, fortunately, there's no shortage of great Bootsy videos on youtube. If anyone has good quality audio from this show and wants to try putting it together with my video, feel free to reach out.

    More info at:

B.B. King is the greatest living exponent of the blues and considered by many to be the most influential guitarist of the latter part of the 20th century. His career dates back to the late forties and despite now being in his eighties he remains a vibrant and charismatic live performer. B.B. King has been a frequent visitor to the Montreux festival, appearing nearly 20 times, so choosing one performance was no easy task. This 1993 concert will surely rank as one of his finest at any venue. With a superb backing band and a great set list its a must for any blues fan.

    The thrill is gone
    The thrill is gone away
    The thrill is gone baby
    The thrill is gone away
You know you done me wrong baby
    And you'll be sorry someday

    The thrill is gone
    It's gone away from me
    The thrill is gone baby
The thrill is gone away from me
    Although, I'll still live on
    But so lonely I'll be

    The thrill is gone
    It's gone away for good
    The thrill is gone baby
    It's gone away for good
Someday I know I'll be open armed baby
Just like I know a good man should

You know I'm free, free now baby
    I'm free from your spell
Oh I'm free, free, free now
    I'm free from your spell
And now that it's all over
All I can do is wish you well

    15:00

Buddy Guy at Denver Botanic Gardens (Chatfield), Littleton CO, September 1, 2012.

At 76, still wailing the blues.

This was the best tune of the evening, glad I captured it on video.

If my Google-search-research is correct that's Ric Hall on second guitar (nice solo work!), Marty Sammon on keyboard (also great solo work), Orlando Wright on bass, Tim Austin on drums.

At the end, they go right into She's Nineteen Years Old and Buddy does a bit of scattin for another 50 seconds or so, but I had to cut it off to keep under the 15 minute limit. Also cut about 2 seconds in the beginning where he was just rubbing the strings up against his shirt (really didn't sound great).

    Summary:
California based Jackie Greene was an early musical prodigy, a guitarist at 14 who could sit in with established bands in clubs. He explores music through all kinds of instrumentation, loves the Blues as much as rock and jam bands, composes prolifically, and embodies a musician dedicated to the art of live performance. For over a decade he has been collaborating and performing with the likes of B.B. King, Phil Lesh, Huey Lewis, Taj Mahal, Gov't Mule, members of Mother Hips and Buddy Guy. His 2005 song I Will Never Let Go was featured in the film Brokeback Mountain, and more recently he joined a stellar line-up of musicians on January 8, 2011 to celebrate the 80th birthday of Bill Graham, a fundraiser for The Bill Graham Foundation. Jackie stopped by Wolfgang's Vault that day to share with us these tunes.
