Blackstar Silverline - Setting the Record Straight

I recently made a video where I reviewed the Blackstar Silverline. In that video I made a couple of mistakes, and I was just plain wrong. I wanted to set the record straight, man up, and admit my mistakes. So here goes. Hope y'all enjoy.

A Stratocaster of some kind, either an Yngwie Malmsteen Strat, or a custom Strat with a scalloped fretboard. For 7 string stuff I mostly use an Ibanez Universe.
    A Marshall 1987x into a Marshall cab.
A Fender Yngwie Malmsteen overdrive, plus a Boss NS-2 noise gate, or a Strymon Sunset.
A Morley Bad Horsie 2 wah, and a delay.
An AKG C-414 mic for the guitar.
For acoustic stuff I use a Taylor 710 short scale thingy.

  • The Ultimate Modelling Amp Shootout - Fender vs Marshall vs Blackstar vs Boss vs Line 6 vs Vox

    50:12

Before you buy your next modelling amp, you must watch this video!
We discuss & demo the best selling modelling amps of 2016/17, and whilst we focus on some of the bigger modelling amps, you can also use this video to help you decide which of the smaller modelling amps would suit you too. We programmed each amp to get us our favourite clean tone, break up tone & hi gain tone.

And once you've decided which one you like the best, do us a favour & buy it from here :)

To skip to the amp you want to hear go to these times in the video
    Vox VT100X - 2:16
    Marshall Code 50 - 7:50
    Fender Mustang III v2 - 14:11
    Boss Katana 100 - 21:06
    Blackstar ID60 TVP - 26:59
    Blackstar ID Core 100 - 32:11
    Line 6 Spider V 60 - 37:18

    Guitars used:
    Fender white opal strat
    PRS SE custom 24

We don't use any pedals in this video - all the sounds you hear are from the amp, using the FX that are built in to that amp. The amps are mic'd up using the same mics & we don't process the audio to make anything sound better than it really is. If you're wondering why we didn't include amps like Orange Crush or Marshall MG, its because they aren't digital modelling amps.

Thanks for watching & please comment which amps you liked best & why.

    Cheers

    Rabea & Pete

We absolutely love the Boss Katana range here at PMT. When they were first released a few years ago, these award winning amps really were a game changer, solid state amps that could deliver the realistic tone, response and dynamics of a valve amp. Add to this their huge range of features and versatile output power switching options, and you’ve got a range of gig ready amps that sound amazing cranked up on stage, but are equally just as suitable for lower volume rehearsals, recording or even quieter bedroom practice.

Alongside all of the features found on the previous versions, new features for the new Boss Katana Mark 2 range include:

    - Amp variation button, giving you an additional 5 new amp characters to choose from

    - New and upgraded effects (65 in total) including a heavy poly octaver and whammy style pitch bender (controllable via an expression pedal

    - Redesigned Boss Tone Studio software edition allowing for more in depth editing of the amp's parameters

    - Dual pot effects controls and individual effects toggle switches

    - Dedicated power amp in socket, allowing you to connect a multi effects directly to the class AB power amplifier

    - Stereo expand mode (100w models only), allowing you to link two Katanas together to create a true stereo rig to utilise the Katana's stereo effects, controlled by one footswitch

    - Greatly expanded foot switch capabilities

    - Cab resonance selector switch (2x12 and Head models only)

Boss recently unveiled the second iteration of its popular Katana amp series. Retaining the same core controls and looks of its predecessor, the MkII version adds a variation switch to the amp models and dual ring knobs on the effects side for a plethora of tonal options. First we'll cycle through a few amp and effect combinations before giving the amp a full workout in a demo track.

Note that we dialled back the crunch channel for the clean tones and boosted the clean channel for the overdrive tone.

  • Should you buy the Boss Katana 50 or 100? - Combo Amp Shootout

    4:21

I got my hands on two versions of the Boss Katana to test.
The 50 watt version of the new digital amp from Boss really impressed me but I wanted to know if the 100 watt version is worth the extra money.

    Katana Artist:

    Katana 100:

    Katana 50:

Both are light weight and pack a lot of DSP into tiny packages. Both feature 1 x 12 Inch speaker (although the 100w speaker is upgraded). With the 100 watt being only just a little bigger than the 50, I hope this video helps you decide.

  • THE HYPE IS REAL ???? Boss Katana 50 MKII In-Depth Review & Demonstration

    17:05

    ????► Boss Katana 50 MK2 Review & Demonstration
Welcome to this Boss Katana 50 MKII Electric Guitar Amp Review! The Boss Katana range has absolutely been blowing minds with how good it sounds, and I could not agree more. I was shocked when I found out how cheap this amp was, I would have killed for something this amazing when I was starting out.

In the video I'll be running through the features of the 50W model and will mess around with a few of the patches so you can see a wide range of the tones that can be produced from this stellar amp.

    3:05 - Amp Features
    6.22 - Amp sound demo
    10:43 - Boss Tone Studio

One of my favourite features is perhaps the power level control. You can set it to as low as 0.5W for quiet bedroom practice and then crank it to 50W if you're playing in a live setting.

I'd say the only thing I'd want to see as an improvement is a smartphone app like the Boss Katana Air. Unfortunately to really fine tune FX you need to use the Boss Tone Studio which currently only works on PC and Mac. At this price point though, I'm not complaining. The tone quality is the main thing at the end of the day and the Katana range knocks it out of the Ball park.

Enjoy! Like this #bosskatana50 video and subscribe to the channel for more videos in the future!

For full Silverline Series information visit :

High End - Boutique - Digital - State of the Art

Blackstar has long been a leader in innovative guitar amplification. Now, the boutique-styled Silverline Series is the next gigantic step in their immensely popular digital amp evolution. With their valve-like tone and response, effortless control and the Company’s most potent DSP to date, Silverline boasts all the power, sound and feel of today’s top-tier modelling products with the player-friendly, tactile control of a great valve amp. Finally, the benefits of digital performance without compromise.

    Better by design
Designed by the same team responsible for Blackstar’s acclaimed valve amps, the state-of-the-art Silverline models have the intuitive control of a traditional amp with the huge benefit of being fully programmable. The high-performance SHARC® DSP platform runs algorithms that recreate analogue circuit parameters with supreme accuracy right down to component level. These are not modelling amps in the usual sense of the word – Silverline amps provide stunning boutique “valve tone” on a highly powerful and flexible digital platform.

A new level of processing power
Each model in the Silverline Series faithfully reproduces the tonal depth and vibe of the most popular valve preamp and power amp sections in history. The immensely powerful SHARC® processor achieves a level of responsiveness previously only available in overwhelmingly complex rack and floor-based units. This processor, powering Blackstar’s patented TVP technology, takes you from the crystal clean tone of a high-headroom American combo to impossibly tight high gain with ease, capturing the valve-like vibe and sensitivity that players demand.

    Detailed tone with intuitive control
In designing the Silverline Series, Blackstar’s engineers made intuitive tonal control a top priority. Pick from Blackstar’s lauded set of six amplifier voices; dial it in with volume, EQ, and Blackstar’s patented ISF control; pair your tone with one of six emulated power amp (Response) sections – Including KT88, 6L6, KT66, EL34, 6V6, or EL84; then adjust a few controls to add studio-grade, boutique effects. It’s that easy. With no menus or novel-thick manuals, Silverline Series takes the crown for the most powerful, best sounding and easiest-to-use digital amps available today.

    Built for the stage
Unlike many modelling amplifiers, the Silverline series is engineered with gigging guitarists in mind. The Silverline’s Celestion V-type speakers deliver the volume and clarity necessary to handle any gig and thanks to 12 easily customisable preset locations – 128 locations if using the FS-10 footswitch or the MD-1 MIDI Controller – the Silverline Series is certain to be your go-to amp for every performance.

Perfect for at-home rehearsal and recording
Don’t let Silverline’s straightforward control layout fool you. These amps also boast in-depth control that goes toe- to-toe with any competing device out there. Simply plug your Silverline into your computer via the panel-mounted USB port – also the perfect direct recording solution – and Blackstar’s free INSIDER software will open a world of fine-tuning options. Add in an emulated output (which doubles as a headphone output on Silverline Standard and Special) and an Aux/MP3 input for convenient rehearsal, you’ll find that Silverline might just be the perfect amp for any situation – your silver bullet.

    Blackstar Silverline features:
    ● State-of-the-art digital guitar amplifiers with groundbreaking SHARC® DSP power
    ● Attractive, boutique styling
    ● Response control based on patented TVP technology accurately reproduces the nuances of classic power amp circuits (EL84, 6V6, EL34, KT66, 6L6, KT88)
    ● Patented ISF sweeps from American to British tone
    ● 6 proprietary Blackstar preamp voices (Clean Warm, Clean Bright, Crunch, Super Crunch, OD 1, OD 2)
    ● USB port offers effortless direct recording and re-amping
    ● INSIDER software unlocks deep-editing features and patch management/sharing
    ● MP3/Line In and Em. Out/Phone jacks deliver studio-ready tone for ‘silent’ practice
    ● Powerful enough for any stage, subtle enough for home
    ● Manual and Preset operation with 12 fully customizable preset locations (128 with footswitch)
    ● Loaded with Celestion V-type speakers

The Blackstar Silverline Series is available in:

    Silverline Special: 50W, 1x12
    Silverline Deluxe: 100W, 1x12

  • Tube amps Vs. Boss Katana Pt.1

    7:01

Want to see how a Boss Katana holds up against £10,000 worth of high end valve amplifiers? In this video I replace all guitar parts that were recorded with high end valve/ tube amps. The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

Thanks for everyone so far who has bought me a coffee, if you also wish to do so click on the link below.

    27:35

Blackstar Silverline Deluxe Head (100 Watts of Digital Versatility)

EDIT: The amp does indeed have a noise gate, and a loop. You can set up both via your laptop. This definitely makes the Silverline something to consider.

Blackstar have unveiled a new series of amps, called the Silverline. In this video I check out the Silverline Deluxe Head, which is 100 watts of digital modelling power. The amp features a power amp section where you can select the type of power amp tubes that the amp emulates, as well as built in effects, plus a few different channels in the preamp. You can also program the Silverline, which gives you a whole bunch of flexibility. Oh, and it's also relatively affordable. So how does it sound?
    Enjoy!
