    Slow Blues Guitar Lesson
Learn to play the blues at:
    ➢➢➢

This series of lessons, taught by Bobby Harrison, is effectively a course within a course. We will focus on the unique and often under-taught subject of slow blues guitar playing.

Slow blues is a very expressive form of blues, since it allows for a lot of freedom in terms of phrasing, feel and dynamics. Slow blues classic such as Red House,Texas Flood, How Blue Can You Get, Be Careful With A Fool, The Sky Is Crying” and “Five Long Years” are all essential listening.

Since the blues is an improvisational form of music, it can be more difficult to teach than other styles and slow blues in particular has its own elasticity when it comes to phrasing. Using a variety of backing tracks, we will learn several slow blues solos, using slightly different approaches to phrasing each time.

For generations, blues musicians have picked up licks and soloing ideas from other players, so feel free to steal the ideas presented here and incorporate them into your own solos. Eventually, like the generations of blues guitarists before you, you’ll make them your own.

    ➢➢➢

Probably The Most Valuable FREE Blues Guitar Lesson You’ll Ever Take - With TAB!

Here’s a 100% FREE, in depth blues guitar lesson with tab, taught by Bobby Harrison. In this tutorial, we will learn 15 essential blues licks in the context of a 12 bar blues solo over a shuffle groove in the good old-fashioned key of A.

Our solo spans two choruses (twice around the 12 bar progression) and features many classic blues licks and phrases in the styles of B.B. King, Freddie King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert King and Albert Collins.

These 15 licks feature classic blues tonality, along with chord tones that really highlight the changes. These are all extremely usable ideas that you can incorporate into your own playing. Each lick breakdown features on-screen tab

In addition to learning the solo, we’re also going to cover a very cool rhythm guitar part that you can try out next time you find yourself at a blues jam. Enjoy!

The lick and solo tutorial starts at 10:15.

The guitar in this video was custom made by Dave Walsh at Eternal Guitars & Hot Rod Pickups.

The Pickups are also by Hot Rod Pickups: “S92” single coil in the bridge and the “Timeless” single coils in the middle and neck positions.

I also use Hawk Picks and Elixir Nanoweb 10-52 strings.

I am left-handed, but the video has been horizontally flipped in order to make it easier for most “normal” players to follow.

Be sure to visit to download the tablature and MP3 Jam track for this lesson.

This lesson gives a brief overview of the major and minor pentatonic scales on the guitar, which are (in my opinion) the only 2 scales you really need to know well. You can play just about anything with these 2 scales (in fact, they're the only scales I know!). I give some examples using each scale and explain how the major pentatonic scale is the happier sounding scale, versus the minor pentatonic scale which is more sad (also referred to as the blues scale). Be sure to download the tablature and MP3 jam track for this lesson to practice these!

  • Intermediate blues guitar lesson Tips and tricks for jamming Blues

    16:44

Hey Geetar Players!! This weeks upload is an intermediate blues guitar lesson with tips and tricks for jamming blues.
Sit down to it , its gonna be a long one!!
For a long time, playing the rhythm and solo all at the same time eluded me? I could never get it to sound right, it always left me feeling frustrated and wondering what kind of sorcery these blues players were cooking up to be able to do it? Was the devil at the crossroads a real thing?
Well in this lesson i aim to start getting you on the right track to be able to accomplish that very thing! We are gonna go through a simple 1,4,5 Progression highlighting the bass and embelishing the chords with some intermediate tricks that fall right underneath your fingers.
As always with these kind of lessons i cant stress enough to you how you MUST take this idea and EVOLVE it into your own way of playing, find your own runs, walk into the changes differently just start in anyway you can by adding your personal accent! Thats what will give you your own unique sound! At a time when everything is so accessible its real easy to take influence, blend them all together and create your own sound!

  • 4 Types of Blues Turnarounds You Should Know

    11:30

    Tuesday Blues #230 -

Blues turnarounds are just plain fun to play and you should definitely have a few in your back pocket.

In this lesson, we're going to zoom out a bit and take a look at 4 types of blues turnarounds that you can hear over and over again in the Blues.

Cool thing is that the basic turnarounds in these categories can serve as a launching pad for your own unique ideas. In the video, we'll embellish a couple of the basic ideas to have some fun with things.

Now, this doesn't mean that these are the ONLY types of turnarounds. If you stumble on one that doesn't fit in these 4 categories, leave a comment and let's collect a cool basket of turnarounds.

    Have fun!

Learn how to play minor blues. Mainly using Am pentatonic scale.

This lesson is aimed at the beginner, so the licks are not too fast, and generally easy to learn. Techniques include bending, vibrato, slides and double stops. Intermediate lesson now available.
*** Please note: The performance has a couple of extra notes here and there, particularly between the licks. When I filmed this I didn't even realise I did it. The licks in the lesson part are what I intended to play, but In the perfomance I was playing with some 'feel' so a couple of passing notes slip in here and there. My excuse is that I never play anything exactly the same way twice, and making these videos is tough to work the cameras, the computer, the lighting, the backing track, the amp and then put in a good performance too! It looks like a few extra notes from the Am pentatonic scale. ***

Email me at marcellison75@gmail.com and I'll send you the tab for the solo, including the 'extra' notes.
