  • Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs - Train

    6:46

Billy Thorpe (RIP) & The Aztecs were one of the most powerful live bands in Australian Rock music ever !
Loud, proud & testosterone enhanced, Billy always commanded the stage like a Viking Chieftain & the crowd loved it.
This clip is a bit atypical of Billy's standard fare, but it does showcase his harp playing to advantage.
I saw Thorpie & the Aztecs dozens of times but can't recall him ever playing harmonica - so this was a pleasant surprise to find & so I've uploaded it - hope you enjoy it !

  • Billy Thorpe, Children of the Sun - ORIGINAL MIX

    6:45

Side 2 of Children of the Sun was re-released in remixed and remastered form, but it omitted the first side of the original Children of the Sun album as it was not part of the COTS rock opera. This sub-par re-release also completely omitted the entire second installment of the series, which was the complete 21st Century Man album. What you are hearing now is the ORIGINAL MIX.

The OFFICIAL track list for the Children of the Sun rock opera is as follows:

1: Children of the Sun (from Children of the Sun)
2: We're Leaving (from Children of the Sun)
3: We Welcome You (from Children of the Sun)
4: Solar Anthem (from Children of the Sun)
5: The Beginning (from Children of the Sun)
    6: 1991 (from 21st Century Man)
7: Solar Dawn (from 21st Century Man)
8: We Were Watching You (from 21st Century Man)
9: 21st Century Man (from 21st Century Man)
    10: She's Alive (from 21st Century Man)
11: Rise (from 21st Century Man)
12: Earth Calling (from Children of the Sun Revisited)
13: Turn It Into Love (from Children of the Sun Revisited)
14: Free Enterprise (from Children of the Sun Revisited)

Note that side one of the original Children of the Sun LP, the final track from 21st Century Man (In My Room) and the final track from Children of the Sun Revisited (East of Eden's Gate) are not considered canon. Only thru liner notes from these releases can we determine which tracks are considered part of the space trilogy, and which are not.

I should also note that between releases of his rock opera, Billy also issued 2 other albums in the USA. These LP's, Stimulation and East of Eden's Gate are both fantastic musically, but are not related to the space trilogy in any way.

  • Billy Thorpe -Its almost summer & Sunbury 1975

'It's Almost Summer' is a live recording from the Million Dollar Bill tour recorded in Hobart. The important recording is the Sunbury 1975 interview and recording with Lobby Loyde where they perform Australia's national anthem 'Waltzin' Matilda' - a suitable ending to the Sunbury era; although Deep Purple did close the last Sunbury music festival.
