    This 3 min 13 second video displays some of the many significant albums, songs and magazine covers related to popular & talented Jazz vocalist Chris Connor, from her time contracted with both Bethlehem records (1953-55) and Atlantic records (1956 - 1962).

    PICTURE ON THE WALL, The Kool Gents, Bethlehem # 3061 1963
    Flipside: COME TO ME - Here is another great, uncharted song from my collection. This is not the Kool Gents group who sang on the Vee-Jay label.

    Bethlehem Records was founded in 1953 and was based in New York and Hollywood. It is best known for its early Jazz releases with artists such as Nina Simone and Julie London. They also recorded other vocal groups: The Pretenders, The Ascots, The Florescents, Night Owls, Viceroys and the Cordials to name a few.

    King Records bought Bethlehem Records in 1962 and after many transitions; Bethlehem Records still exists today and still releases Jazz recordings. Check out their website:

    Enjoy PICTURE ON THE WALL. Great uptempo Doowop at its finest!

  • Dick Haymes - O Little Town of Bethlehem

    2:29

    O Little Town of Bethlehem is a popular Christmas carol. The text was written by Phillips Brooks (1835--1893), an Episcopal priest, Rector of the Church of the Holy Trinity, Philadelphia. He was inspired by visiting the Palestinian city of Bethlehem in 1865. Three years later, he wrote the poem for his church and his organist, Lewis Redner, added the music. Redner's tune, simply titled St. Louis, is the tune used most often for this carol in the United States. In the United Kingdom, and sometimes in the U.S. (especially in the Episcopal Church), the hymn tune Forest Green is used instead. Forest Green was adapted by Ralph Vaughan Williams from an English folk ballad called The Ploughboy's Dream which he had collected from a Mr. Garman of Forest Green, Gloucestershire in 1903. Adapted into a hymn tune, it was first published in the English Hymnal of 1906. Another version by H. Walford Davies, called Wengen (or sometimes just Christmas carol), is usually performed only by choirs rather than as a congregational hymn. This is because the first two verses are for treble voices with organ accompaniment, with only the final verse as a chorale/refrain harmony. This setting includes a recitative from the Gospel of Luke at the beginning, and cuts verses 2 and 4 of the original 5-verse carol. This version is traditionally used at the service of Nine Lessons and Carols in Kings College, Cambridge.

    O little town of Bethlehem,
    How still we see thee lie!
    Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
    The silent stars go by;
    Yet in thy dark streets shineth
    The everlasting Light;
    The hopes and fears of all the years
    Are met in thee to-night.

    For Christ is born of Mary,
    And gathered all above,
    While mortals sleep, the angels keep
    Their watch of wondering love.
    O morning stars, together
    Proclaim the holy birth!
    And praises sing to God the King,
    And peace to men on earth.

    How silently, how silently,
    The wondrous gift is given!
    So God imparts to human hearts
    The blessings of his heaven.
    No ear may hear his coming,
    But in this world of sin,
    Where meek souls will receive him, still
    The dear Christ enters in.

    Where children pure and happy
    Pray to the blessed Child,
    Where misery cries out to thee,
    Son of the mother mild;
    Where charity stands watching
    And faith holds wide the door,
    The dark night wakes, the glory breaks,
    And Christmas comes once more.

    O holy Child of Bethlehem!
    Descend to us, we pray;
    Cast out our sin and enter in,
    Be born in us to-day.
    We hear the Christmas angels
    The great glad tidings tell;
    O come to us, abide with us,
    Our Lord Emmanuel!

  • Nat King Cole - A Cradle in Bethlehem

    3:29

    A Cradle in Bethlehem is a song by Alfred Bryan and Larry Stock. It is composed by Ralph Carmichael. The song is also credited on Nat King Coles LP label as beign adapted by him and Edith Bergdahl.

    A Cradle In Bethlehem

    Sing sweet and low your lullaby
    till angels say, Amen.
    A mother tonight is rocking a cradle in Bethlehem
    while wise men follow through the dark a star that beckons them.
    A mother tonight is rocking a cradle in Bethlehem.
    A little child shall lead them, the prophets said of old.
    In storm and tempest keep 'em until the bells is tolled.
    Sing sweet and low your lullaby
    till angels say, Amen.
    A mother tonight is rocking a cradle in Bethlehem.
    choir
    Sing sweet and low your lullaby.

    A mother tonight is rocking a cradle in Bethlehem.

  • BETHLEHEM - The 11th Commandment black/doom metal

    5:13

    BETHLEHEM- The 11th Commandment, taken from the upcoming release, Dark Metal, on Sunshine Ward Recordings!

    Dark Metal, originally released in 1994, is one of the most important albums in the history of black metal. Defining a genre (Dark Metal, and later DSBM), Bethlehem released the darkest, most psychologically disturbing albums of all time, with this, their debut, being perhaps the most important of all. Combining slow doom passages with moody, gloom-infused black metal, BETHLEHEM used their talent to record the musical equivalent of suicidal ideation and psychological darkness.

    Never having been released again on cassette tape since the original release in '94, SWR is proud to present to you this absolute classic once again on limited edition jet-black cassette tape.

    DARK METAL will be limited to just 150 copies, 50 of which will be an ultra-limited special edition that includes special packaging, a sticker, an enamel pin, a logo button, and even a 'Dark Metal' patch that glows in the dark!

    O Little Town Of Bethlehem by The Staple Singers from The 25th Day Of December (The Christmas Album)
    Recorded in 1962 but then out of print for decades, this is a forgotten classic: Christmas-themed gospel sung by three amazing sisters (the mighty Mavis Staples was only 23), backed with just organ, drums, and Pops, their father, playing funky electric guitar. The Staples' first pop hits were still years away, but they already had talent and passion to spare. Regardless of your religious beliefs, when you hear The Savior Is Born, you'll want to get up and testify. - Rolling Stone

  • Nat King Cole A Cradle in Bethlehem HQ Audio

    3:28

    #Nat_King_Cole - #A_Cradle_In_Bethlehem is track 9 from the original (1960) Album titled (The Magic of Christmas).

    In 1961, Nat recorded a Stereo Version of The Christmas Song and Capitol Records released the popular song as a Single in 1962.

    In 1963, Capitol Records combined the 1962 stereo remake of The Christmas Song with the bulk of the original 1960 album (minus God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman) and renamed the album, surprisingly enough, (The Christmas Song). This 14 song compilation would remain Nat's staple Christmas album for decades to come.

    In 1967, Capitol Records re-recorded the entire 14 Song Compilation IN STEREO, and Re-released on Vinyl LP.

    In 1986, Capitol Records re-Mastered the 14 Song Stereo Compilation, and released in Standard Quality CD Format.

    In 1999, Capitol Records expanded the 14 Song Compilation to 20 Songs and released a (24 Bit Digitally Re-Mastered) version in HQ CD Format.

    In 2015, Audio Fidelity Records was authorized to re-Master the original 14 Song Compilation in Hybrid SACD (CD layer) + Hybrid SACD (SACD layer, 2 channels) format.

    The current Audio Quality of this upload originated from the Standard Audio Quality CD, which I purchased in 1986. As usual, I applied my Custom EQ Settings, and upgraded to Lame Insane 320kb Digital Media MP3 Audio format.

  • Chico Leverett Work Work : NY Night Train Party Platter

    1:55

    Getting ready for Saturday's Detroit Soul Clap and Dance-Off at U.F.O. Factory with this DJ BeyondaDoubt favorite!

    Detroit-born Charles Chico Leverett, as the principle songwriter/singer of The Satintones and as a solo artist, was one of Motown Records first recording stars. Though The Satintones' Motor City and his own Solid Sender are now considered classics, the records weren't hits and Leverett found himself in Reading, PA cutting this side for King Records' Bethlehem subsidiary.

    While the soul era was already kicking into full gear with Motown hits and The Impressions, Major Lance, and the Chicago sound topping the R&B charts and crossing over into the pop mainstream, 1963 found Chico Leverett still firmly planted in the genre's formative years. Work Work, with all its rockin' guitar, hand clap-accented fast forward rhythm, and doo wop harmony vocals, could've been waxed while Eisenhower was still president. And while Work Work must've appeared antiquated to soul public, it isn't that far removed from the approaching British Invasion, and is much more timeless to today's ears than most of its contemporaries.

    You're listening to my daily addition to the New York Night Train Party Platter playlist. Each track here is recorded directly from my original 45s (no bootlegs, reproductions, etc) to give you an idea of what the real deal authentic vinyl sounds like. COME BACK EVERY DAY FOR A NEW FIX! Because the records pass so quickly at my dance parties, this channel is an attempt to stop and focus on one record at a time in hopes to personally learn more about each one and at the same time turn you on to the artists, tracks, labels, etc. I'm just hipping myself to a lot of these records for the first time as well - so you can view this as our journey to learning more about cool old records together! But mostly I hope this music moves you as much as it moves me.

    Get your enjoys,
