    Bobby Robinson (April 16, 1917 – January 7, 2011)[1] was an American independent record producer and songwriter in Harlem, New York City, most active from the 1950s through the mid-1980s. He produced hits by Wilbert Harrison, The Shirelles, Dave Baby Cortez, Elmore James, Lee Dorsey, Gladys Knight & The Pips, King Curtis, Spoonie Gee, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Doug E. Fresh, and Treacherous Three. He founded or co-founded Red Robin Records, Whirlin' Disc Records, Fury Records, Fire Records and Enjoy Records.

    In the 1970s, Robinson produced some of the first hip-hop music records for his Enjoy label and had considerable influence and success in that genre through the mid-1980s. He achieved another success in 1979, when he recorded Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five's first record, Superrappin', an innovative record which was very influential in hip-hop's early years. A local hit among New York area hip-hop fans, the music industry, however, was not ready for the new sound, and the record failed to hit nationwide.

    Robinson then went on to commercial success with other old school hip hop artists, including Pumpkin and Friends, the Funky Four Plus One More, Spoonie Gee (Robinson's nephew), and Kool Moe Dee with the Treacherous Three.

    Robinson chalked up yet another success when he produced Doug E. Fresh's Just Having Fun (Do The Beatbox), which introduced beatboxing to the record-buying public.

    Christmas Rappin was the first Rap song released on a major label. Kurtis recorded this with the help of producers Robert Ford and J.B. Moore. They took it to Mercury Records, who signed Kurtis to a 2-single deal, under the condition that If both singles were successful, he would get an album deal. Christmas Rappin' was the first single, and it did very well. The second single was The Breaks, and it became the first rap song to be certified as a gold record, selling over 500,000 copies. Kurtis got the album deal and became the first rapper signed to a major label.

    Every Christmas, this would sell more copies. After eight years, it went gold. In an interview Kurtis Blow explained, J.B. Moore wrote the first half of the song, the Christmas part. I did all of the party part, the second half of the song. I wrote all of that on a train ride down to the studio around Christmas time. Kurtis' first album contained the second half of this, a song called Rappin' Blow, Part 2. The R&B group Next sampled this on their song Too Close, which was a huge hit in 1998. It was #1 in the US for 5 weeks.

    Kurt Walker better known by his stage name Kurtis Blow, is an American rapper and record producer. He is one of the first commercially successful rappers and the first to sign with a major record label. The Breaks, a single from his 1980 eponymous debut album, is the first certified gold record rap song.

    Rapper's Delight is a 1979 hip hop track by the Sugarhill Gang and produced by Sylvia Robinson. While it was not the first single to include rapping, Rapper's Delight is credited for introducing hip hop music to a wide audience. It was a prototype for various types of rap music, incorporating themes such as boasting, dance, honesty and sex, with the charisma and enthusiasm of James Brown. The track interpolates Chic's Good Times, resulting in band members Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards suing Sugar Hill Records for copyright infringement; a settlement was reached that gave the two songwriter credits.

    Good Times is a song by American R&B band Chic from their third album Risqué (1979). The disco song, ranked No. 229 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, has become one of the most sampled tunes in music history, most notably in hip hop music.

    Rapper's Delight is number 251 on the Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and number 2 on VH1's 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs. It is also included in NPR's list of the 100 most important American musical works of the 20th century. It was preserved into the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress in 2011. Songs on the National Recording Registry are culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.

    Although all of Michael Jackson's music videos are referred to as short films, the short films for Off the Wall, Michael's first solo album for Epic Records, are more classic music videos, as they are performance clips rather than scripted stories. Michael's short film for Rock With You was the second of the three short films produced for recordings from that album. The single reached No. 1 in the United States in 1980, topping Billboard's Hot 100 and Hot R&B Singles charts and reaching No. 4 on Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 chart that same year.

    Rock With You was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America on February 14, 1980, and Platinum of February 14, 1989. The song was ranked No. 82 on Rolling Stone and MTV's list of the 100 Greatest Pop Songs in 2000. In his 1988 memoir Moonwalk, Michael called Rock With You, written by Rod Temperton, the sort of thing I was aiming for in creating an album to his vision.

    The short film featured Michael performing the song on a plain stage in a sequined jumpsuit and matching boots, a set of shimmering lasers illuminating his outfit from behind. Director Bruce Gowers praised Michael as an absolute professional in an interview with Rolling Stone. In 2014, the magazine would rank Rock With You No. 6 on a list of Michael Jackson's 20 Greatest Videos.

    Rise is a song written by Andy Armer and Randy Badazz Alpert, and first recorded by jazz trumpeter Herb Alpert. The instrumental track was included on Alpert's solo album Rise and released as a single in 1979. It reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in October of that year and remained in the top position for two weeks. Herb Alpert thus became the first (and only) artist to reach the top of the Hot 100 with a vocal performance (This Guy's In Love With You, 1968) as well as an instrumental performance. Rise also spent one week atop the Adult Contemporary chart. Rise was successful on several other charts. It peaked at number four on the Soul chart and number seventeen on the Disco chart. The recording also received a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. Rise was originally recorded as an uptempo dance song. However, Herb and Randy tried slowing the tempo down to 100 bpm. Upon release, the song received an unexpected burst of promotion. Jill Phelps, musical director of the ABC soap opera General Hospital, decided to use Rise as the musical backdrop for the rape of Laura Webber by Luke Spencer. For several weeks afterward, the recording was played on the show to evoke the memory of Luke's act. The added exposure in an extremely popular program boosted sales to the point of selling more than two million copies. Shortly after Rise became a hit in the United States, it became a hit in the United Kingdom when British disk jockeys were playing import copies of the record at the wrong speed (American 12-inch singles were played at 33 revolutions per minute, the same as an LP, while British and European 12-inch singles were played at 45 RPM). A sample of Rise is the entire musical groove of the 1997 #1 world-wide hit song, Hypnotize, recorded by The Notorious B.I.G. and co-produced by Sean 'Puffy' Combs. The sample is credited on both the single, Hypnotize and in the liner notes for the Notorious B.I.G's album, Life After Death. Herbert 'Herb' Alpert (born March 31, 1935) is an American musician most associated with the group variously known as Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass or just TJB. He is also a recording industry executive, the 'A' of A&M Records (a recording label he and business partner Jerry Moss founded and eventually sold). Alpert's musical accomplishments include five number one hits, twenty-eight albums on the Billboard charts, eight Grammy Awards, fourteen Platinum albums and fifteen Gold albums. In August of that year it became the band's second number one single on both the Billboard Hot 100 and soul singles chart. Along with the tracks, My Forbidden Lover, and My Feet Keep Dancing, Good Times reached number three on the disco charts.     Rudolph Frank Moore (March 17, 1927 – October 19, 2008), known as Rudy Ray Moore, was an American comedian, musician, singer, film actor, and film producer. He was perhaps best known as Dolemite (the name derived from the mineral dolomite),[2] the uniquely articulate pimp from the 1975 film Dolemite, and its sequels, The Human Tornado and The Return of Dolemite.[3] The persona was developed during his earlier comedy records,[4][5] for which Moore has been called the Godfather of Rap.

    Antonio Hardy (born September 10, 1968[1]), better known by his stage name Big Daddy Kane, is a Grammy Award-winning American rapper and actor who started his career in 1986 as a member of the rap collective the Juice Crew. He is widely considered to be one of the most influential and skilled MCs in hip hop.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12] The name Big Daddy Kane came from a variation on Caine, David Carradine's character from TV show Kung Fu and a character called Big Daddy Vincent Price played in the film Beach Party.
    Rolling Stone magazine ranked his song Ain't No Half-Steppin' #25 on its list of The 50 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs of All Time, calling him a master wordsmith of rap's late-golden age and a huge influence on a generation of MCs.
