  • The Cars Final Interview 2000 with Benjamin Orr

    46:14

I uploaded this interview from a DVD I bought to honour the memory to Benjamin Orr and Ric Ocasek and to keep their legacy and the legacy of The Cars alive. For some reason as it was a very large file the first few seconds were cut off.
Because the purpose is to non-commercially educate and offer a critical assessment, this fan made video is being uploaded under the terms of Fair Use. No copyright infringement intended.
This interview was recorded in September for the Rhino release of the DVD of Musikladen 1979 to be included in this . Less than 2 weeks later Benjamin passed away. After this interview Benjamin courageously went on to perform at his final concert on September 27 (Big People concert in Alaska). You can read all about this in the wonderful biography by Joe Milliken called Let's Go! Benjamin Orr and The Cars @
This interview fills with so much respect for Benjamin for his strength and courage and I found it difficult to watch and cried at times but because of Benjamin's incredible courage and code of honour and his incredibly modesty is something to marvel at and made me want to share this. Also the way Benjamin replies at 31:17 minutes when asked by Brett Milano whether he thought of himself as the sexy one.

I pondered for a long time whether to upload this interview or not. I cried so much the first times I watched this, but I feel because this interview shows just how courageous he was, his strength when being so close to his death , he could still summon up all his charisma and charm and smile at the camera and what I feel for him was important smile at his fans one more time with his old band mates, well, I felt that needed to be shared. Also the fact that Ric has also passed away and we get to see them all one more time together.
Here are some of the highlights for me from this interview :
I love when Benjamin talks about the band at 6:30 , also another highlight to me is when Benjamin says at 2:14 about David being put on a gurney after performing in Europe for Musikladen 2:32
Also about Benjamin joking about In the good old days at 27:41 and also after this Elliot talking about Live Aid and Benjamin talks about his pedals and bass synthesizer 29:10. I love Benjamin's incredibly modesty , for me it is something to marvel at and one of the many reasons that made me want to share this final interview when Benjamin replies at 31:17 minutes when asked by Brett Milano whether he thought of himself as the sexy one. His reply is so incredible and also so very telling of this very private man.
I loved Benjamin's witty reply to Ric as they joked like old times ( about Candy-O) when Ric says he thinks he never met anyone called Candy 42:25 ( Benjamin saying to Ric You never told me about it and how gently Ric touched his shoulder. Also at 45:02 when Benjamin talks about after the band members were talking about what they are proudest of or what the band and time means for them, I love what Benjamin says and how he shows his whole heart in that sentence and in fact this was one of those moments when watching this that I decided I did want to honour him with a channel, Facebook page and website. There are such sweet moments in this and wonderful stories and also so much heartbreak as you can tell his old friends are very much aware this is their final time with Benjamin. Even yesterday I still was unsure about sharing this but I still feel it should be shown and every fan has the option of not to view it. I know it took me years to be able to sit down and watch it and I had to walk away. But now I mainly see how much this pays tribute to Benjamin and the fact he did this interview , he wanted this seen .

I would like to perhaps help a younger audience find out about Benjamin and become new fans :) If you like this please subscribe to this channel and please come and checks out my Facebook page by the same title as this channel @

    4:25

NO SURPRISE I GOT YOUR CALL. NO REGRETS, WE SAID IT ALL
DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE?

GUESS YOU CAN'T GO BACK AGAIN, SO VERY HARD TO WATCH YOU ACT, MY FRIEND
DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE?

AND SO, A TIME TO LET GO
    AND SEE HOW IT FLOWS
    WITHOUT YOU

YOU LOSE THE LEAD, A BROKEN CAR, YOU DROP A BEAT AND THERE YOU ARE
YOU KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE

SAID AND DONE, NOW I'M THE ONE - WHO PULLS THE STRINGS, SO DANCE FOR ME
YOU KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE?

AND SO, A TIME TO LET GO
    AND TAKE TO THE ROAD
    WITHOUT YOU

YOU KNOW - YOUR LOOKING GLASS HAS FROZEN ME
YOU KNOW - I'M NOT WHERE I USED TO BE
NOW THE TABLES HAVE BEEN TURNED
AND THE BRIDGES HAVE BEEN BURNED

    SOLO

SO, IN THE END, THE TRUTH RINGS TRUE
AFTER ALL, I'VE LEARNED FROM YOU.

YOU KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE
    AND SO....

This is Benjamin Orr with Do You Know What It Feels Like , a song that was intended to be released as a follow up to The Lace written by Benjamin Orr and John Kalishes, ©1993
Because the purpose is to non-commercially educate and offer a critical assessment, this fan made video is being uploaded under the terms of Fair Use. No copyright infringement intended. I have used photos of Benjamin I found on the net and I used my own photographs as a backdrop to these photos. (In fact this time I smuggled one as a backdrop of my precious old classic car and my beloved husband in this as a backdrop). This video somehow took ages to create , some photo montages an hour as I was desperately trying to find suitable images to match the lyrics or feel so I hope it works and you like it :) Please contact me if you took any of these photos and would like © added to this, however I am doing this as labour of love and no profit is made from any of my videos. I love this song, it has such a haunting feel and one wonders if perhaps this is indeed a song that reflects on a personal story of a friendship that broke. I bought a CD with the songs from that time and some live performances and uploaded the audio from this.

  • BENJAMIN ORR ― WHEN YOURE GONE

    4:49

    WHEN YOU'RE GONE:
rain keeps pounding without a break
and beating with a heart awake even now
    i can't imagine what you're doing
    when you're not around
a shady thought to ask now i need you now

    when you’re gone
    you gotta know that everything
    is turning me upside down
    you gotta see that confusions
    spinning me around
you gotta know that the feeling
is that everything is lost you see
    when you're gone

shadows reaching long across the floor
wishing you were at the door
    you know it's insanity
    you always keep leaving me
walking around one room to the next
    remembering the very best
it's starting to get to me
    you always keep leaving me

    cause it's so strong
    it's that much harder
    i'm feeling so alone
    i need to hold you
    and feel the magic
    you've been away so long

well if it isn't enough how can i make it more
thought we'd been through this all before
here we go one more time

COPYRIGHT DISCLAIMER: I do not own any of the material used in this post. All material belongs to their respective owners. No copyright infringement intended.

Hi guys and girls! My name is Nick and welcome to Mastering Revolution. And what is Mastering Revolution? Digitally remastered music tracks for a a cleaner, sharper, wider and more refined listening experience with sound that never heard before. Music the way it was meant to be heard and sounds better than the original. IMPORTANT: To understand the difference, always use a descent sound system or a good pair of headphones. Definitely, you won't feel the difference at all, with the speaker of your smartphone.

    Note 1:

Due to the complicated and versatile algorithms of Youtube's audio track uploading normalisation process, even with the use of a top analyzer, a limiter and a lot of other mastering effects to calculate the needed lufs for proper uploading, some tracks may not hear as loud as the originals but that doesn't mean they don't sound better. To understand the difference of the remastered track compared to the original, if the original track sounds louder, just pump up the volume as much as needed.

    Note 2:

I can make multiple remastered versions for each track but I always choose only one to upload. When I upload a music track on YouTube, sometimes I don't like the sound very much because it sounds a lot different from my desktop. But instead of re-making the track, I choose to move on to the next just because I don't want to lose time. If you don't like the sound of a track, just tell me and I will make it again.

    Note 3:

I'm an amateur mastering engineer and I'm doing this mostly for fun and because I really love audio mastering. Every song is unique and a completely different challenge with multiple characteristics that don't match to another song before so there is a lot of work to be done for each song. There isn't any standard pattern that you can use on every song. Sometimes (not always), I'm so excited with the results that I really want to share my work. Beyond that, having a second set (or a lot!) of ears to evaluate my work is priceless and that’s where YouTube comes in and becomes an invaluable asset through all of you who click my videos and listen to them with fresh ears. So, don't hesitate to comment if you don't like the sound of a song and tell me what you didn't like. That's how I'm going to improve myself.

    3:33

HQ very rare promo music video. Let's Go was the first single from The Cars' album Candy-O released in 1979. It was written by Ric Ocasek and features lead vocals by Cars bassist Ben Orr. The single peaked at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in the U.S., but the song was an even bigger success elsewhere. In Canada, the track reached #5, and remains the Cars' highest ever charting single in that country. Similarly, in Australia Let's Go peaked at #6, and remains The Cars' highest charted hit in that country.

The song's signature hook, a series of claps followed by a shouted Let's go! is derived from the 1962 instrumental of the same name by The Routers.

The song tells the story of a 17-year old girl and her budding interest in the nightlife. It is told from the perspective of a teenage boy who wishes to ask her out for a date. She refuses any and all of his advances.

The Cars are an American rock band that emerged from the early New Wave music scene in the late 1970s. The band consisted of lead singer and rhythm guitarist Ric Ocasek, lead singer and bassist Benjamin Orr, guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes and drummer David Robinson. The band originated from Boston, Massachusetts, and were signed to Elektra Records in 1977.

The Cars were at the forefront in merging 1970s guitar-oriented rock with the new synth-oriented pop that was then becoming popular and which would flower in the early 1980s.

On October 21, 2010, The Cars confirmed that they have reunited and are recording their first album in 23 years. Greg Hawkes will fill in on bass for Benjamin Orr, who died in 2000. (Source: Billboard)

  • BENJAMIN ORR ― THE LACE

    4:20

    THE LACE:
    just walking through the city
some need to sort things out
i don't need to know the pity
    i'm feeling for us now

    we walked right back together
    back when i hardly knew
    why do the strangest things
bring back those times with you
    just when we're getting closer
    i'm seeing something new

    just soaking up the city
    drifting the days away
    searching through crowds of people
    the face that got away

    we've had good times together
put all my dreams on you
    you let me down somehow
and now i see where to
turns out my best just wasn't
    good enough for you

you couldn't recognize a loss in the world
i want you to lose yourself you couldn't feel at all
everything just ends up so sad
too bad i gave it what i had

    just walking through the city
    drifting the days away
    searching through crowds of people
    the lace that got away

    you're telling me it's nothing
when i don't watch you stare
how could i get to you
    when you were never there

  • The Cars with Benjamin Orr Live with Everything You Say Remastered from 1987

    5:18

This is a video I created for the re mastered audio from The Cars final concert tour with Benjamin Orr from December 8th , 1987 with Everything You Say, a song written by Ric Ocasek for Door to Door .Benjamin changed some of the lyrics on this whilst performing live. I created this video to honour the memory of Benjamin Orr and to pay tribute to The Cars . I apologize if there are any mistakes. Because the purpose is to non-commercially educate and offer a critical assessment, these fan made videos are being uploaded under the terms of Fair Use. No copyright infringement intended. Here is some more information about their album Door to Door. Door to Door was the group's last studio album before they disbanded in 1988. It was also the last Cars record to feature Benjamin Orr before his death in 2000. The band would not release another studio album until 2011's Move Like This.
Although by 1987 the Cars had reached the heights of superstardom, their last few albums had relied heavily on studio tricks and machines but this album was an attempt to move back to the group's original roots. For example, where the previous album, Heartbeat City, extensively used sampled and sequenced drums (a move that had somewhat alienated drummer David Robinson), this album returned to having Robinson performing the drums in the studio, often simultaneously with other band members
The opening track, Leave or Stay, also was originally a 1977 demo that was not properly recorded until Door to Door, although they had often played the song live in the band's early days.
The lead single of the album, You Are the Girl, reached number #17 on the Billboard 100 as well as reaching number #2 on the rock charts. The follow-up single, "Strap Me In", only scraped into the top 100, peaking at #85, although it was much more successful on the rock charts, where it reached #4. The final single released, Coming Up You peaked at 74 on the charts and was also a moderate hit on the adult contemporary charts.
Rhythm guitarist and principal songwriter Ric Ocasek shares lead vocals with bassist Benjamin Orr on You Are the Girl. Both singers had recently cracked the Top 40 with solo hits, Ocasek with 1986's Emotion in Motion and Orr with 1987's Stay the Night .You Are the Girl was the Cars' first—and last—Top 40 hit after their 1987 regrouping following the band members' three-year hiatus to focus on solo work. It also became the second (and last) single after Since I Held You from Candy-O in which both singers shared vocals on a song.
The lyrics for the song are about an ex the music video, directed by cult filmmaker John Waters, has been described as alien-populated. In 1987, the Cars performed You Are the Girl and Double Trouble (another track from Door to Door) at the MTV Video Music
The single Coming Up You first saw release as the eighth track on Door to Door in August 1987. The song later saw a single release in America and Australia, backed with the fellow Door to Door track Double Trouble. The third single from Door to Door after the top twenty hit You Are the Girl and its less successful follow-up Strap Me In, the song peaked at #74 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #37 on the Adult Contemporary chart. However, unlike its predecessors, it failed to chart at all on the Mainstream Rock chart. Also it is among the very few songs by the group not to feature a promotional video.
The single was the final Cars single released before the band broke up in 1988 although it was followed up by Sad Song when the band reunited in 2011.
AllMusic critic Mike DeGagne called the track the most melodious tune on Door to Door and went on to say it was easily one of the Cars most distinct efforts since it doesn’t quite carry the same new wave/pop rock structure as the rest of their material yet relinquishes the same type of Cars charm DeGagne continued, Coming Up You is one of the bright spots in an otherwise faltering release as fans were still comparing Door to Door to the success of 1984's Heartbeat City album. After all of the tracks are heard on Door to Door, Coming Up You easily rises above the rest of the album's lackluster fare, mainly because Ben Orr seems to sound more enthused and more interested than Ric Ocasek does on any of his songs.

    SKYLINE:
    wandering aimless blinded
    starcross love lost find me
    wheel aligning back to uptime
    empty as the endless skyline
    countless images calling
    staring starving hungry
travel roads that hold no answers
back to square one out of fences
i know the feeling i feel like you do
i've been where you've been too
    used up burned out wanting
    countless memories haunting me

  • An excerpt from an interview with Ric Ocasek and Benjamin Orr 1984

    6:41

This is a brief excerpt from an interview shown on British TV recorded in 1984 but it aired I believe in 1985, I bought this from a DVD of various videos and interviews ( I believe it was created in the UK)
The interviewer is Paul Gambaccini and the program I believe was called The Other Side of the Tracks.
I uploaded this interview from a DVD I bought to honour the memory to Benjamin Orr and Ric Ocasek and to keep their legacy and the legacy of The Cars alive.
Because the purpose is to non-commercially educate and offer a critical assessment, this fan made video is being uploaded under the terms of Fair Use. No copyright infringement intended.
It shows that either the interviewer decided to focus on Ric and did not encourage Benjamin to speak much or perhaps Benjamin indicated that he would not talk much, but I wanted to share this since a lot of fans commented on how painful it was to watch the final interview of The Cars with Benjamin and show something that perhaps would make you all smile and think of better times.
I would like to perhaps help a younger audience find out about Benjamin and become new fans :) If you like this please subscribe to this channel and please come and checks out my Facebook page by the same title as this channel @
