The dance performed in the video is called “Para para”, sort of Japanese line dancing. According to those in the know: “It is not tiresome, you can Para para for hours”

FunFact: Roy was captured by the infamous dancing machine. After meeting the owner of the arcade, Roy traded his cowboy costume for the machine. The vacant spot in the entertainment hall is still proudly filled with his costume.

Lyrics: Vengaboys - Kiss (When The Sun Don't Shine)

    Oh oh oh!
Shalala lalala lala lalala lala lalala
Shalala lalala lala lalala lala lalala

    Every friday
My head's spinnin' round and round
Been workin' all week now, baby
    Yes it's my day
    I take a trip downtown
To my favourite club now, baby

    That's when I see you
With loving arms to fall into
But I'm not looking for full time love
There's still so much I wanna do

    I only kiss kiss kiss
    When the sun don't shine
Oh oh oh! Oh oh oh!
    You wanna kiss kiss kiss
    Then tonight is fine
Oh oh oh! Oh oh oh!

Make some noise for the Vengaboys

    Can live without it
    I don't want a full time love
Cause it's not on my mind now, babe
    You know my freedom
    Is what I'm thinking of
And I ain't got the time now, baby

    Straight out of the blue
You came and asked me to
Be your date in the daytime, babe
But I am sorry no can do

    I only kiss kiss kiss
    When the sun don't shine
Oh oh oh! Oh oh oh!
    You wanna kiss kiss kiss
    Then tonight is fine
Oh oh oh! Oh oh oh!

    I only kiss kiss kiss
    When the sun don't shine
Oh oh oh! Oh oh oh!
    You wanna kiss kiss kiss
    Then tonight is fine
Oh oh oh! Oh oh oh!

    Kiss me
    When the sun don't shine
    Kiss me
    When the sun don't shine

    Oh oh oh!
Make some noise for the Vengaboys
    Oh oh oh!
Make some noise for the Vengaboys

In late 2008, John Junior left Musa Juma's Limpopo Band to form his own band B-V Band. On his 1st release with his own band, he recorded the classic song, Osiepe . In 2009 after his US tour, Musa Juma recorded the same song under the title Benard on his Album Lake Victoria. In this video, MJ and his understudy JJ spur it out to claim the distinction as reigning King of Luo Benga music. You be the judge

  • Samba Mapangala & Orchestra Virunga - AFH437

    12:04

    Performance - 8 July 2012
Samba Mapangala and his group Orchestre Virunga are one of the classic bands from Central and East Africa from the last 25 years. Known and loved throughout East Africa and beyond for his astounding voice, Samba created an innovative mix of the best Congolese rumba and soukous with an earthier Kenyan style.Their song and CD of the same name ‘Malako Disco’ (originally released in 1984 and later renamed ‘Virunga Volcano’ in Europe) is almost always featured in lists of the top all-time African recordings. Virunga Volcano is among the 100 Essential (World Music) CDs in the Rough Guide book series. Born in Matadi, Zaire (DR Congo), Samba Mapangala played with various Kinshasa bands including Super Bella Bella in the early 1970s, before forming his first band, Les Kinois in Kampala, Uganda where he had moved. Samba then led his band of musicians east after the stint in Uganda, and as lead singer and songwriter, they relocated to Nairobi, Kenya in 1977 where they took the scene by storm. Samba’s voice and songwriting talents won Les Kinois the recognition which lifted them above the crowd of bands struggling for work in Kenya. Samba was not satisfied by producing generic Congolese rumba (AKA soukous) and he quickly adopted East African influences, incorporating the lilting benga rhythms of Kenya. In 1981 he formed Orchestre Virunga, a band made up of Congolese and Kenyan musicians which became one of the most popular bands in all East Africa.Singing in both Congolese Lingala and Kenyan Swahili languages, Samba and the Orchestre Virunga won a large and dedicated following in Nairobi. This exploded following the release of his classic track Malako in 1984, a song which reverberated across the dance floors of Africa and which remains legendary to this day.In 1989 Samba made his first visit to Europe recording with Quatre Etoiles in Paris. In 1991 he returned with Orchestre Virunga for a European tour after which Samba stayed in London to record ‘Feet on Fire’ for the Stern’s label. These recordings were extremely well received and a punishing tour schedule took them across the world. Finally in 1997, after a successful but exhausting North American tour, Samba decided to settle in Washington DC, USA and take a well earned break. After three years however, he could no longer resist the urge to record and flew to France where he gathered a group of Congolese musicians with whom he made the album ‘Ujumbe’. Samba’s lyric’s offer an insightful social commentary as well as plenty of homespun advice, and this is offset by the dance-friendly music his band creates. In May 2004 Samba went on a 2-week concert tour of Tanzania after a 7-year absence. He performed with an all-star line-up of musicians based in Kenya and Tanzania. he repeated this trip back to an equally heart-felt homecoming in Nairobi in 2006.In 2005 a collection from the Orchestre Virunga archives was released as ‘Virunga Roots Volume 1’. Pleased by the enthusiasm with which this was received, the band regrouped in 2006 to record ‘Song and Dance’ for Virunga Records. His hunger now restored and with a group of excellent musicians formed around him, Samba is ready to take to the road again, leaving no dance floor unfilled.

His early hits included Fingertips, Uptight (Everything's All Right) For Once in My Life, My Cherie Amour, Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours, and If You Really Love Me. He undertook the study of classical piano, and later, music theory, and beginning in 1967, he began writing more of his own material. In the early 1970s, Wonder toured with the Rolling Stones and had major hits with the songs Superstition and You are the Sunshine of My Life. In the mid-70s, his album Songs in the Key of Life topped the charts for 14 weeks. Over the years Stevie Wonder has garnered 25 Grammy Awards, as well as the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996. He collected an Academy Award for the 1984 hit I Just Called to Say I Love You from the film The Woman in Red. In 1989, he was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Songwriters' Hall of Fame in 2002, and in 2004 he won the Johnny Mercer Award in recognition of a lifetime of outstanding creative work. Song: Kik Icha Wadu (We Chayo Jathum)
    Artist: Emma Jalamo
    Album : Rembo
Audio: Eng Wuod Fibi (Barikiwa Studio)
    Slideshow: Charles Okuku

Listen to the song, like, give your views and share.

Kik Icha Wadu (We Chayo Jathum) is one of the songs in Emma Jalamo's sixth Album titled Ruth Rembo.

The album, which was launched on December 2, 2017 at Egesa East Villa, Umoja, Nairobi, has seven songs namely Milly Nyar Nyakach, Asam K'Apiyo, Odhis Randere, Ruth Rembo, Kik Icha Wadu, Utanikumbuka and Amani Kenya.

The song sends a strong message to anyone who understands Luo. Emma is stating categorically that he does not sing to compete with anybody in the music industry but to make the Luo Nation and all his fans worldwide happy.

In the song, Emma is appealing to anyone not to look down upon other people since they never know what tomorrow hold for them.

The Ohangla artiste is urging everyone not look down upon others whether they are less intelligent, more intelligent, dumb, rich or poor.

In this World do not look down upon others, whether you are educated, whether you have wealth, whether you are poor do not look down upon other people, reads part of the lyrics.

Jalamo is encouraging the people to show respect to everyone they come across anywhere.

    In the song, he quotes a few riddles in Luo such as;

1- Ng'ama ipuonjo nyalo jari koseng'eyo meaning - Someone you have taught something may not recognise you after getting the knowledge.

The riddles can be used to best describe various situations.

Emma is reminding the people that everyone has got a unique talent given to them by the Almighty God.

In conclusion, I know some people have criticized this powerful song saying Emma is targeting someone/some people but let me say that is exactly how people behave when truth hits them. This track is well-arranged from the beats to the lyrics and its message is quite clear and understandable.

  • FRANCO LUAMBO MAKIADI????????!????????????????????

    3:18:39

Helloooo! Hollaaaa! Bonjourrrr! Welcome back to Sebenology, here, we're back with Part 2 of Franco aka the Sorcerer of the Guitar!!!!

In the 1980s Zaire fell into economic decline, fueled partly by government corruption and profligate spending. The once-vibrant music scene began to suffer and many of Zaire’s best musicians went to Europe. Although Franco moved his recording base from Kinshasa to Brussels, Belgium, he did not abandon his home base. His songs became longer and often involved elaborate narratives. In 1985 he released “Mario,” a song about a young man who, despite his education, prefers to live off the earnings of his wealthy lover, a woman twice his age. The song became Franco’s biggest hit.

As Africa was hit by the burgeoning AIDS epidemic, Franco became one of the first to address the issue with his 1987 release, “Attention na SIDA.” This 15-minute-long drum- and guitar-driven song was a clarion call for caution in sexual relationships and a plea for government intervention in the spreading epidemic. Shortly after the release of “Attention na SIDA,” Franco fell ill and rumors spread about the cause of his disease. He converted back to Catholicism and was again baptized François Luambo Makiadi. He died after a long illness on October 12, 1989, in Brussels, leaving behind a wife and 18 children. Many believe that the great musician was claimed by the disease he had sung so passionately about.

Franco’s body was flown back to Zaire and the government declared four days of national mourning. Crowds lined the streets of Kinshasa to pay their last respects as Franco’s hearse passed by, covered with the national flag. State-run radio Voix du Zaire played nothing but Franco’s music. He was finally laid to rest on October 17. The style of rumba that Franco played...is called Odemba. Rest in Peace. Plesir!

  • George Ramogi & C.K. Jazz: Benga Sessions from the 70s Mixtape????????????????????????: Black Music from Kenya????

    13:06

George Ramogi (1945–1997) was a Kenyan musician, who empowered the traditional luo benga and rumba genre of music. Ramogi was known for his spur of the good life and his notable appearances at bars and clubs in western Kenya-Nyanza region. During the beginning of his career.George is believed to have been the real force behind “benga” as a genre.
It was in 1965 that Ramogi and colleagues started the Luo Sweet Band, later changed to Continental Kilo Jazz Band (or C.K. Jazz). The nucleus of this group had been performing together, on and off, right up to Ramogi’s death at the age of 52 in 1997.

In 1994, a small group of Kenyans in the United States pooled their resources to bring Ramogi and band to the US to perform. The Safari CD, recorded in the US, is an outgrowth of that tour and, in fact, contains praise songs (as is common) for several of the individuals who organised the tour. Although not a very polished production, it’s certainly authentic benga and it has its moments of greatness. The cassette contains more songs from the same recording session and somewhat better audio quality.

Ramogi has also been recoginised through his recordings with other Kenyan musicians such as Were Carey, Ochieng Kabaselleh, Daniel Owino Misiani and Tom Kodiyo He created C.K Dumbe Dumbe Jazz band in response to the popular Zairean group Orchestre Lipua Lipua. Dumbe Dumbe is a Luo word for the children playing in the rain (nyithindo go dumbe dumbe).More on George Ramogi is coming up in soon to be published book by longtime friend of George Ramogi Mr Mondeng Wetaler. The book shines the light on a humble beginning of George Ramogi to star-studded funeral of the all charismatic and famous son of Kamwala Weta. This book will be a must read to all fans of George Ramogi. #Kenya #Africa #Georgeramogi #Africanmusic #Bengamusic #Blackpeople #Noire #Eastafrica #Africana #Africaine #Negro #Dancemusic

  • Samba Mapangala & Orchestra Virunga - AFH433

    7:17
