    Lyrics:

Well, it's ok. It's so nice
It's just another day in paradise
    Well, there's no place that
    I'd rather be
    Well, it's two hearts
    And one dream
I wouldn't trade it for anything
And I ask the lord every night
For just another day in paradise

  • Taildragger with Lurrie Bell, Dave Specter, Bob Corritore in 2000

    2:35

Chicago bluesman Taildragger performing at the Jazz Record Mart Blues Brunch during the 2000 Chicago Blues Festival. The 'house band' was Rockin' Johnny's group, but by the time this video was shot towards the end of the event, Johnny had handed his Rickenbacker guitar to a very hyped-up Lurrie Bell, Aaron Moore was on piano, Dave Specter had joined in on second guitar, and former Chicagoan (now Phoenix, AZ blues impresario) Bob Corritore was sitting in on harmonica. The bass player is Sho Komiya, and drummer is Kenny Beedy Eyes Smith.

    Artist Biography by Steve Leggett
Bluebird Blues A first-tier blues and jazz guitarist, Dave Specter, whether working solo as a bandleader or as a sideman for artists like Johnny Littlejohn or Son Seals, has always brought intelligence and sharp, crisp playing to the music table, a sort of contemporary version of T-Bone Walker. Born on Chicago's northwest side on May 21, 1963, Specter didn't pick up the guitar until he was 18 years old, but once he did, he never looked back. Early on he worked as a support player for Littlejohn, Seals, and the Legendary Blues Band before starting his own group, the Bluebirds, in 1989. Signing with Delmark Records, he released a debut album, Bluebird Blues, on the imprint in 1991, featuring vocals by Barkin' Bill Smith (Specter is not a vocalist), following it with Blueplicity (this time with vocals from harmonica player Tad Robinson) in 1994 and Live in Europe (again featuring vocalist Robinson) in 1995. Lynwood Slim handled vocals for 1996's Left Turn on Blue (which featured legendary jazz organist Brother Jack McDuff on the Hammond B-3), with Lenny Lynn taking over vocal duties on 1998's Blues Spoken Here. For 2000's Speculatin', Specter abandoned having a singer at all, issuing 13 instrumental tracks. Vocalist or not, Specter's guitar playing can more than carry a song or a gig, or even an album, and respect for his playing had become universal in the blues community, even as he has moved further into jazz territory. Is What Is appeared in 2004, followed by Live in Chicago (a DVD of the same show was also issued) in 2008, all on the Delmark imprint. For 2014's Message in Blue, which featured Otis Clay, Brother John Kattke, and Bob Corritore, Specter mixed guest vocal tracks in with instrumental tracks, all with his signature, swinging guitar style.

Engineered by: Vic Smith and Lou Austin

Recorded at Island Studios, London (1972)

    ROGER SAUNDERS
Born Barking, near London, 1947. As a child Roger showed exceptional gifts, and by the age of 14 he was a proficient guitarist and pianist. On leaving school Roger joined a string of groups, playing both piano and guitar, but made his way commercially mainly as a guitarist, as his piano playing was classical.

Gradually Roger realized that his greatest talent was composition and with the help of his piano some beautiful songs evolved.

Been lead guitarist with the English rock band Freedom for four years and he is part of the total sound. Inevitably, however, he has developed as an individual musician.

Freedom have incorporated may Roger's piano copositions into their act, but he has written such a vast amount of material that the obvious thing to do was to record a solo album.

    To lay it down himself.

A little over 15 years ago I became aware of Dave Specter, a fabulous guitarist from Chicago on one of my all time favorite blues labels, Delmark. His album with Barkin Bill left me wanting more--the next album with Tad Robinson gave me what I needed.

Blueplicity is a tune I learned several years ago on guitar from the album of the same name (I learned several tunes off that album). I dig Dave's phrasing and tried to keep some of that in this mandolin rendition.

Dave--I hope you enjoy. I've talked to Tad about recording a mandolin centered version of Sweet Serenity for my solo album.
