  • Au Pairs - Come Again

    2:45

The Au Pairs were (Jane Munro, Lesley Woods, Paul Foad, Pete Hammond) a British post-punk band that formed in Birmingham in 1978 Music historian Gillian G. Gaar noted in her history of women in rock that the band mingled male and female musicians in a revolutionary collaborative way, as part of its outspoken explorations of sexual politics.

Their first album Playing with a Different Sex is considered a post-punk classic with strong, sarcastic songs like It's Obvious and We're So Cool taking a dry look at gender relations. Other songs, such as Armagh with its refrain, we don't torture took a pro-republican look at the then ongoing Troubles in Northern Ireland, which caused some controversy at the time.[citation needed] The band performed in 1980 for the concert film Urgh! A Music War.

The band's second album, Sense and Sensuality (1982), showed an even greater influence of jazz, soul, funk and disco on the band's sound, but was less well received.[citation needed]

Following the departure of Jane Munro in 1983, she was replaced by Nick O'Connor (who also played piano / synthesizers in the group). At this time the group were further augmented by Jayne Morris (percussion and backing vocals) and Graeme Hamilton (trumpet). The band broke up in 1983, just before they were about to go into the studio to record an album with producer Steve Lillywhite.

Woods formed an all woman band called the Darlings in the late 1980s, but then left the music industry. She now works as a lawyer in London. Guitarist Paul Foad remains an active musician, playing with Andy Hamilton and the Blue Notes, a Jamaican jazz band, and teaching guitar in and around Birmingham. He has also published a guitar technique book, co-written with Stuart Ritchie, titled The Caged Guitarist (2000). Bass player Jane Munro works as an alternative therapist (aromatherapy, reflexology and Indian head massage) in Birmingham. Pete Hammond also remains an active musician and teaches percussion in Birmingham. (info courtesy of wikipedia)

  • The Au Pairs - Sex Without Stress

    4:33

The Au Pairs were a British post-punk band that formed in Birmingham in 1979. Music historian Gillian G. Gaar noted in her history of women in rock that the band mingled male and female musicians in a revolutionary collaborative way, as part of its outspoken explorations of sexual politics.
Sense and Sensuality (1982) was the second album of British post-punk band Au Pairs. The album reached #79 in Britain. No singles were released from the album. The album cover wasn't approved by the band. There were errors on the recording, including it being recorded at too fast a speed, these were corrected on the 2002 reissue by Castle Music. The albums lyrics still focus on personal and wider political issues but shows a wider range of musical influences than their first album, Playing with a Different Sex.

  • Au Pairs - Headache For Michelle

    6:36

Headache For Michelle - Album Playing with a Different Sex 1981. I do not own the rights to this music/song.

Au Pairs were a British post-punk band that formed in Birmingham in 1978 and lasted until 1983. They produced two studio albums and three singles. Their songs were said to have contempt for the cliches of contemporary sexual politics and their music has been compared to the Gang of Four and the Young Marble Giants.[2] The band was led by Lesley Woods, who was once described as one of the most striking women in British rock

    Song lyrics:

Got a bad taste in my mouth got a heavy heart won't go away
Can't remember much about last night but I'm trying to regain
    A little self control today
I got out of my head last night
They are coming amongst and in between us
Tapping our phones you can be sure they've seen us
Are you working for or with the state
They're selling you smack at a slightly cheaper rate
'Cos you're not a threat when you're out of your head
And I'm gonna get out of my head
And it's better in bed when you're out of your head
And Malcolm is dead he got out of his head
    They are closing down communications
They're taking control of our situations
The forces of control are gathering around our heads

  • A Eulogy for Pairs: A Shitty Band nobody heard of

    9:44

This video is a retrospect/eulogy to a band that died around 2014, called Pairs.

A band that i won't say is good (they're great by the way), but a band that i would never call shit.

i won't necessarily recommend you to listen to Pairs, but i do recommend you experimenting, and seek out music outside your comfort zone.

    And who knows ?,
    you might be surprised.

if somehow you like/enjoy what you heard, you can find all of their music here.

Au Pairs was formed in Birmingham and was fronted by lesbian feminist Lesley Woods (vocals, guitar). Other members were: Paul Foad (guitar), Jane Munro (bass) and Pete Hammond (drums). Band played brittle, dissonant, guitar-based rock that shared political and musical kinship with the Mekons and (especially) the Gang of Four. The music was danceable, imbued with an almost petulant irony, and for a while, very hip and well-liked by critics. Their lyrics were about celebrating sexuality from a woman's perspective and they also took swipes at the conservative political climate sweeping England after Margaret Thatcher's election as Prime Minister. For some reason (maybe because Au Pairs were on a small indie label) they did get only some success on Indie-charts. Band was also in URGH! The Music War concert movie (the9r part was filmed 9/18/80). After bootleg Equally Different was released also an official version from a same gig was released as LP Live in Berlin (two songs less than on bootleg). The band split up in 1983.

  • KEEF TROUBLE - Okee Dokee Band - sings French Au Pair

    5:33

Keep an eye out for OKEE DOKEE's frequently upcoming gigs at the MALTSHOVEL, HORSHAM. Details at:

'French Au Pair' is a touching ballad about loss, to which all blokes can relate. The splitting-up, the share-out of possessions, and regret over things forever lost, saddens the heart of any man -- for a while.

Another of Keef's compositions aided by top British folk/rock outfit The Okee Dokee Band.

    The Okee Dokee Band are:
John Le Shy: Accordian, Fiddle, Banjo, Vocals.
Dick Streeter: Bass and acoustic guitars, vocals, Whistle.
    Phil Gravitt: Guitar, Mandolin, Harp.
    Danny: Drums, Percussion, Vocals.
    Dan Dewdney: Electric guitar, Vocals.
Keef Trouble: Vocals. Electric guitar, Zob Stick, Percussion, Duck call.

Keef was a forming, and to this day has been a leading, light in Brett Marvin and the Thunderbolts, having a UK No. 2 hit with 'Seaside Shuffle' in 1972, under the name Terry Dactyl and the Dinosaurs. Forging a personal musical career, he produces his own and Brett Marvin's albums; these can now be seen on CD BABY. The recordings of his original compositions have attracted, and included, the cream of musicians. He collaborated with Jona Lewie, writing the lyrics to Jona's top-twenty hit 'You'll Always Find Me in the Kitchen at Parties.'

    30:20

T 4 2 is a Dallas, TX synth band. You might ask a synth band out of Texas of all places? You heard it right. But they are one heck of a synth/new wave band. On this album , they were the duo of Jay Gillian and Jimron Goff. Will Loconto replaced Goff in 1989. On the album Brian Mendelsohn also contributes to the synths and programming. This will be a real treat for the lovers of synth sounds.
By the way, the band has just released an album called Decoder, which is highly recommended for 80's fans.
