Around The World (1961) - CONNIE FRANCIS - Lyrics
    Around the world I've searched for you;
I traveled on when hope was gone
    To keep a rendezvous.
    I knew somewhere, sometime, somehow,
You'd look at me and I would see
    The smile you're smiling now.
It might have been in County Down,
Or in New York, or gay Paree,

No more will I go all around the world
For I have found my world in you.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir - Christmas Day

    5:44

From the 1961 album Christmas Carols Around The World, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (directed by Richard P. Condie) performs an interesting arrangement by composer Gustav Holst (The Planets). Holst combines four Christmas carols into a composition that's more than just a medley, using counterpoint and juxtaposition. The featured carols are: 1) Good Christian Men Rejoice (In dulci jubilo); 2) God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen; 3) Come Ye Lofty, Come Ye Lowly; and 4) The First Noël.

Kay Starr & Brenda Lee - Around the World

    4:09

Lyrics below. Take our poll if you want more Kay Starr. I know that I used this song in another video trailer, but simply had to insert Brenda's version here for a comparison video.

    Around The World (1956)
Victor Young (Music), Harold Adamson (Lyrics)

Around the world I've searched for you
I've traveled on when hope was gone
    To keep a rendezvous

    I knew somewhere, sometime, somehow
You'd look at me, and I would see
    the smile you'll smiling now

It might have been in County Down,
Or in New York in Gay Paree,
    Or even London Town

No more will I go all around the world
For I have found my world in you

Around the world, I've searched for you
I've traveled on when hope was gone
    To keep a rendezvous

    I knew somewhere, sometime, somehow
You'd look at me And I would see
    The smile you'll smiling now

It might have been in County Down,
Or in New York in Gay Paree,
    Or even London Town

No more will I go all around the World
For I have found my world in you

Around the world. I've searched for you
I've traveled on when hope was gone
    To keep a rendezvous

    I knew somewhere, sometime, somehow
You'd look at me And I would see
    The smile you'll smiling now

It might have been in County Down,
Or in New York in Gay Paree,
    Or even London Town

No more will I go all around the World
For I have found my world in you

For I have found my world in you

Note: Kay Starr sings to find our rendevous and or Gay Paree instead of the original lyrics.

Ricky Nelson - Travelin' Man 1961

    Lyrics:
    I'm a travelin' man
and I've made a lotta stops
    all over the world
    And in every port
I own the heart of at least one lovely girl

    I've a pretty senorita
waitin' for me down in old Mexico
And if you're ever in Alaska
stop and see my cute little Eskimo

    Oh my sweet fräulien
    down in Berlin town
makes my heart start to yearn
    And my China doll
    down in old Hong Kong
    waits for my return
Pretty Polynesian baby over the sea
    I remember the night
When we walked in the sands of Waikiki
and I held you oh so tight

    Oh, I'm a travelin' man
    Yes, I'm a travelin' man
    Yes, I'm a travelin' man
    Woe, I'm a travelin' man

Perry Como Live - Around the World

    2:59

The Perry Como Show. May 4, 1957.
    With Mitchell Ayres' Orchestra.

Around the World was the theme tune from the 1956 movie Around the World in 80 Days. In the film, only an instrumental version of the song appeared, although the vocal version has become by far the better known one. The song was written by Harold Adamson and Victor Young; Young died in 1956, several weeks after the film's release and he received the Academy Award for Best Music, Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture posthumously. Young's orchestral version was a #13 hit on the Billboard charts in 1957. The recording by Bing Crosby was the B-side of the Victor Young version in 1957, on Festival SP45-1274 inLive Australia, and was a joint charting success.

Where Is Your Heart (1961) - CONNIE FRANCIS - Lyrics
    Whenever we kiss
    I worry and wonder
    Your lips may be near
    But where is your heart?

    It's always like this
    I worry and wonder
    You're close to me here
    But where is your heart?

It's a sad thing to realise
That you've a heart that never melts
When we kiss, do you close your eyes
    Pretending that i'm someone else?

Oh well I'm the type of guy who will never settle down
Where pretty girls are well, you know that I'm around
I kiss 'em and I love 'em 'cause to me they're all the same
I hug 'em and I squeeze 'em they don't even know my name
They call me the wanderer, yeah the wanderer
    I roam around, around, around

Oh well there's Flo on my left and there's Mary on my right
And Janie is the girl with that I'll be with tonight
And when she asks me which one I love the best
I tear open my shirt I got Rosie on my chest
'Cause I'm the wanderer yeah the wanderer
    I roam around, around, around

Oh well I roam from town to town
I go through life without a care
'Til I'm as happy as a clown
With my two fists of iron and I'm going nowhere

I'm the type of guy that likes to roam around
I'm never in one place I roam from town to town
And when I find myself a-fallin' for some girl, yeah
I hop right into that car of mine and ride around the world
Yeah I'm the wanderer, yeah the wanderer
I roam around, around, around, let's go

Oh yeah I'm the type of guy that likes to roam around
I'm never in one place I roam from town to town
And when I find myself a-fallin' for some girl

Shirley Bassey - Reach For The Stars

    3:09

1961 (Young Shirley Bassey recorded this beautiful song in 1961, and it reached #1 on the Charts. This was the Side (A) and Side (B) was Climb Every Mountain.

I don't even know if Shirley really promoted this one around the world, as it's one of those musical materpieces that not a lot of people outside of the UK are familiar with. But, when people listen to it, they can easily see why it sold so well at the time. This is a wonderful easily listening nostalgia piece, and Shirley's vocals are breathtaking, even with the limited record fidelity of the time that had difficulty capturing Shirley's high fidelity vocal abilities.

    LYRICS:
I reach for the stars when I reach for your love
For so far above me you always will be
Like a clown longs to be a king in a play
I long for the things that are so far away

I reach for the stars when I reach for your hand
But stars tumble down from the clouds to the land
When you come to my arms in that moment divine
All the stars in the sky are mine, all mine

I reach for the stars when I reach for your hand
But stars tumble down from the clouds to the land
When you come to my arms in that moment divine
All the stars in the sky are mine,
    All mine

Special Thanks to Pieter and Astrid from the Shirley Bassey blog and all those who have provided wonderful pictures of Shirley!

    Jef Maes, Overture concertante

    6:55

    Jef Maes, Overture concertante (1961)

    Royal Flemish Philharmonic
    Martyn Brabbins, conductor

Jef Joseph Maes (5 April 1905 in Antwerp – 30 June 1996 in Antwerp) was a Belgian composer and violist.
Encouraged by his friend, André Cluytens, he completed his study at the Flämi conservatory in Antwerp. He studied viola with Napoleon Distelmans; chamber music with Albert van de Vijver; and counterpoint and fuge with Karel Candael.

When he was 23 years old, he composed his first work, which was a romantic Meditation for violin and piano.

After his studies, he was employed for two years as a violist in the opera orchestra in Antwerp; in 1926 he participated in an orchestra under the conductorship of Lodewijk de Vocht, Nieuwe Concerten. In 1930 he was a soloist with the well-known Dierentuin concerts in Antwerp, directed by Flor Alpaerts. Afterwards he was a violist for about 10 years with the Casino Orchestra at Knokke Casino. In 1933 he lectured at the music academy in Boom, Antwerp; ten years later he was appointed director of the academy. From 1942 to 1955 he lectured in harmony teachings at the Royal Flämi Conservatory in Antwerp. He also lectured in chamber music from 1955 to 1970.

Along with Gaston Ariën, J.A. Zwijsen and Steven Candael, Maes founded the Antwerpse Philharmonie (Antwerp Philharmonic Orchestra) in 1955, their first concert given on December 10, 1956. The orchestra is now known as the Royal Flemish Philharmonic or DeFilharmonie, and is officially called Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.

Beginning in 1961 he led the annual International Music Camp, organized through youth and music in Belgium during the summer holidays. He was also a musical mentor in Turnhout.

The music on my channel is meant to introduce a large audience to music by unknown classical composers and unknown classical music by famous composers in the music period of about 1870 till about 1970.
The program presents works by relatively unknown composers and unknown music by well-known composers and has no commercial purposes.
Tens of thousands of people around the world learn about unknown music through our channel (educational task) and unite the people from the many countries who give their comments and reactions. Hit the road Jack!

    2:20

    In memory of Jack.

    Ray Charles

Lyrics Ray Charles Hit The Road Jack
    ------------------------------------------------------------

Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.
Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more.
    What you say?
Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.
Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more.

Woah Woman, oh woman, don't treat me so mean,
You're the meanest old woman that I've ever seen.
I guess if you said so
I'd have to pack my things and go. That's right

Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.
Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more.
    What you say?
Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.
Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more.

Now baby, listen baby, don't ya treat me this-a way
Cause I'll be back on my feet some day.
Don't care if you do 'cause it's understood
you ain't got no money you just ain't no good
Well, I guess if you say so
I'd have to pack my things and go. That's right

Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.
Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more.
    What you say?
Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.
Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more.

    Well
don't you come back no more.
    Uh, what you say?
don't you come back no more.
    I didn't understand you
don't you come back no more.
    You can't mean that
don't you come back no more.
    Oh, now baby, please
don't you come back no more.
What you tryin' to do to me?
don't you come back no more.
Oh, don't treat me like that
don't you come back no more.

Felix Slatkin and His Orchestra - Around The World

    1:59

Music is the harmonious voice of creation; an echo of the invisible world.
    ---- Giuseppe Mazzini

As we come closer to the month of november (and the urge to travel to other more sunny destinations is getting stronger ;-) we invite you to join us on a world tour in music where we'll be visiting different places - at least as far as the titles of the respective songs are concerned. So you may expect themes and tracks which have the name of a city, country or other location in their title. Some well known, some a bit less known - each time brought by a different orchestra (and all of them previously unreleased here on YT).
As an introduction to this small series we've chosen the appropriate 1956 song Around the World written by Victor Young.
Felix Slatkin, a superb violinist himself, brings us this fine arrangement with the string section obviously playing the main part.
Slatkin's conducting career included his founding of the Concert Arts Orchestra and appearances with the Hollywood Bowl Symphony Orchestra. He was Frank Sinatra's concertmaster and conductor of choice during the Capitol years of the 1950s. He made over 25 recordings with these orchestras, also on the Capitol label, including a recording of Offenbach's Gaîté Parisienne (a ballet arranged by Manuel Rosenthal), which won a Grammy Award in 1958. He also made over a dozen recordings for Liberty Records establishing The Fantastic Strings, Fantastic Fiddles, Fantastic Percussion, and Fantastic Brass of Felix Slatkin. In 1962, his recording entitled Hoedown won a Grammy nomination.
From the 1961 Album Many splendored themes here is Felix Slatkin and His Fantastic Strings with Around The World.
    Enjoy.
