'Come Together' - from the Alone Together Album - COVID-19 Relief Single

    Stream 'Come Together' NOW:

Welcome to the #AloneTogetherAlbum project - a record created collaboratively by independent musicians self-isolating across the world during the COVID-19 pandemic (scroll down for full artist list).

This cover of The Beatles' 'Come Together' is the record's lead single, produced by Ariza and mixed by Jon Rezin. It features the artists on the album collaborating on the same track. The rest of the album (available May 8th) involves these artists in smaller teams creating, writing and producing original music for the record.

This video was compiled and edited by Eastwood Allen, and all artwork and graphics designed by Malc Coombes.

All the proceeds generated from 'Come Together' go entirely to the WHO and UN's COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, providing necessary medical supplies to frontline healthcare works battling the Coronavirus pandemic, while also funding research into better understanding therapy and transmission dynamics of the disease.

The project seeks to highlight the importance of staying at home to save lives, and showing just how much we can still collaborate when we're 'Alone Together'.

Subscribe for more updates and content, make sure you hit that 'like' button, and stream and share the record to generate as much money for this brilliant cause, as possible! Together, we can make a real difference!

My friend Adam Gross of the Indianapolis-based group, S.M. Wolf, challenged me to write a protest song in the wake of this year's election, a task that turned out much more difficult than I imagine. After a month of writing and rewriting, I emerged with Bloodsport, and, damn, am I proud of it. All the track for the new Kingdom Jasmine record is complete, but I think I'll go back into the studio to do a full-band version of this just because it kicks so much ass.

    Lyrics:

    One-hundred years from now
    What will they think
    When teachers talk about
    The fall of a nation

    One nation underwhelmed
    By its majesty
    All halls and houses filled
    With malice and greed

    I ain’t no patriot
    I ain’t no saint
I ain’t no cowboy, bronco, eagle, my friend
I’m just a bulldog from a flyover state
Nobody knows the trouble I seen
    Oh, the troubles I seen

    If Jesus Christ were here,
    He’d shake his head,
    He’d burn a dollar bill
    He’d burn a flag

    I ain’t no maverick
    I ain’t no king
I ain’t no magic rocket raptor
I’m just a bulldog from a flyover state
Nobody knows the trouble I’m after
    Oh, the trouble I’m after

    One-hundred years from now
    What will they think

I discovered this song only a couple months ago when it popped up on a Spotify playlist. Since then, it's been bouncing around my head, so I thought I'd put together my own arrangement. Such a beautifully simple tune.

    Videography by Carly Hambridge.

    Checkin' my bank account
    All of my money's out
    Gave it to the government

    Assuming I'm still alive
    I'll see it at sixty-five
Spend it on a fighter jet

    Baby, I'll take you flyin'
We can all that we missed
When we were blinded down in Bushwick

    Walkin' down Myrtle Ave
    Thinking 'bout Indiana

They're sittin' on their front porch
Yellin' out to the garbage man

    (But) nobody looks at me
    Buskin' on 14th St
I don't love you New York City

    Baby, I'll take you flyin'
We can see all that we missed

    LYRICS

They'd have you think there is a war outside.
Blood on the sidewalk all for some nameless christ.
What do you think about all the dreams we share?
A day without pain. A day without words threadbare.

    When I'm walking home,
I see a stranger on the road,
    But I ain't scared, no,
'Cause he's as lost as I.
He's as lost as I on the docks in the dead of night.

So take my hand, and we'll swim the Hudson Bay.
Tattoos on our chest: Do Not Resuscitate.
Guardian angel whispering to the kids.
A world without martyrs. A world without closed eyelids.

    When I'm walking home,
I see a stranger on the road,
    But I ain't scared, no,
'Cause he's as lost as I.
He's as lost as I on the docks in the dead of night.

At the last Patreon-only virtual concert, a fan requested that I perform a Beatles song, a truly terrifying undertaking. Yeah, I won the Battle of the Bands all those years ago with my version of Do You Want To Know A Secret, but that was with a six-piece band. Solo is a whole other ordeal. Anyhow, I worked at it for a while and came to a version of Here Comes The Sun that I thought does the original some sort of Western American justice. A chance sunset at Turtle Rock in Buena Vista led to this video. Enjoy!

  • The Sound of Silence - OConnor Lee

    3:26

A couple weeks before the Spring 2019 quarantine -- when most of us still had no idea what was about to happen -- we filmed a cover of our favorite Simon & Garfunkel song. In light of the pandemic, as well as the tornado that had just devastated parts of Nashville just a couple miles north of us, The Sound of Silence seems as relevant a song now as it has ever been.

Filmed by Craig Hill, live in a field at Percy Warner Park in Nashville.
