On this episode of the Invest Four More Podcast I talk with Jay about his journey and how he has become so successful. This was one of my favorite episodes and he did an awesome job. Jay invested before, during and after the housing crisis, and managed to survive it all. He had some problems with turn-key rentals and hard money financing, but managed to get through it all and still pay every back.

In the end he had done very well for himself and is an inspiration.

Edward Kid Ory (December 25, 1886 – January 23, 1973) was a Black Creole jazz trombonist and bandleader. He was born on Woodland Plantation, near LaPlace, Louisiana.

Born in Laplace to a Louisiana French-speaking family, Ory started playing music with homemade instruments in his childhood, and by his teens was leading a well-regarded band in southeast Louisiana. He kept LaPlace as his base of operations because of family obligations until his twenty-first birthday, when he moved his band to New Orleans. He was one of the most influential trombonists of early jazz.

Ory was a banjo player during his youth, and it is said that his ability to play the banjo helped him develop tailgate, a particular style of playing the trombone with a rhythmic line underneath the trumpets and cornets.

When Ory was living on Jackson Avenue, he was discovered by Buddy Bolden, playing his first new trombone, instead of an old Civil War trombone. Ory's sister said he was too young to play with Bolden.

Ory had one of the best-known bands in New Orleans in the 1910s, hiring many of the great jazz musicians of the city, including the cornetists Joe King Oliver, Mutt Carey, and Louis Armstrong, who joined the band in 1919;[1] and the clarinetists Johnny Dodds and Jimmie Noone.

In 1919, he moved to Los Angeles[2]—one of a number of New Orleans musicians to do so near that time—and he recorded there in 1921 with a band that included Mutt Carey, the clarinetist and pianist Dink Johnson, and the string bassist Ed Garland. Garland and Carey were longtime associates who would still be playing with Ory during his 1940s comeback. While in Los Angeles, Ory and his band recorded two instrumentals, Ory's Creole Trombone and Society Blues, as well as a number of songs. They were the first jazz recordings made on the West Coast by an African-American jazz band from New Orleans, Louisiana. His band recorded with Nordskog Records; Ory paid Nordskog for the pressings and then sold them with his own label, Kid Ory's Sunshine Orchestra, at Spikes Brothers Music Store in Los Angeles.

In 1925, Ory moved to Chicago, where he was very active, working and recording with Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Oliver, Johnny Dodds, Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey, and many others. He mentored Benny Goodman and, later, Charles Mingus. He was said to have attempted to take trombone lessons from a German guy who played in the Chicago symphony, but Ory was turned away after a few lessons.[3] Ory was notably a part of the original configuration of Louis Armstrong's Hot Five, first recorded on November 12, 1925.[4] His famous composition Muskrat Ramble was included in the Hot Five session in February 1926.[5]

During the Great Depression Ory retired from music and did not play again until 1943. He ran a chicken farm in Los Angeles, California.[6] From 1944 to about 1961 he led one of the top New Orleans–style bands of the period. His sidemen during this period included, In addition to Carey and Garland, the trumpeters Alvin Alcorn and Teddy Buckner; the clarinetists Darnell Howard, Jimmie Noone, Albert Nicholas, Barney Bigard, and George Probert; the pianists Buster Wilson, Cedric Haywood, and Don Ewell; and the drummer Minor Hall. All but Buckner, Probert, and Ewell were originally from New Orleans.

The Ory band was an important force in reviving interest in New Orleans jazz, making popular 1940s radio broadcasts—among them a number of slots on The Orson Welles Almanac program (beginning March 15, 1944).[7][8][9] In 1944–45 the group made a series of recordings for Crescent Records, which was founded by Nesuhi Ertegun for the express purpose of recording Ory's band.[10]

During the late 1940s and early 1950s, Ory and his group appeared at the Beverly Cavern in Los Angeles. In 1958 he played at 'On the levee' on the waterfront at San Francisco. Ory retired from music in 1966 and spent his last years in Hawaii, with the assistance of Trummy Young. Ory died of pneumonia and a heart attack in Honolulu.[2] He was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City, California.[

“A thousand miles from their homeland in northern Mali, across a vast expanse of desert, the music of Tinariwen has found shelter in the hearts of six young musicians from M’hamid el Ghizlane. They were only boys when the desert rockers first visited their home, back in 2006, but they saw an immediate reflection of their own dreams and aspirations in the music they heard. In the years that followed they learned the Tinariwen songbook note for note, word for word, even though they couldn’t speak a word of Tamashek, the language of the Touareg.

When Tinariwen returned to M’hamid in 2016 to record a new album, those young disciples from M’hamid had achieved a remarkable mastery of the desert guitar repertoire. The torch had been passed from hand to hand and heart to heart across the great desert. The young musicians from M’hamid were invited to perform Abdallah’s ‘Sastaqanam’, standing in for their older brothers and playing with uncanny fidelity. I climb. I clash my knees on rock
Climb, and lick the salt from my abrasions.
Climb, and try to put marks on the sky
like an empty field full of blue mouths

Program Notes
American poet Jenna Lanzaro bases a lot of her work on her experiences in the natural world. “In the Desert” was inspired by a trip to Chile, where she went on a hiking expedition with a female friend in the Atacama Desert. Envious of the perceived ability of others to relinquish control to the sublime, Jenna drafted “In the Desert,” a poem in which the speaker battles against her own interiority. She cannot “fall backwards” like the symbolic old man; she cannot hold still. Instead, she climbs, toiling towards a peace and enlightenment which, ironically, cannot be achieved by such means.
This poem is about womanhood, too. Mother Earth/Nature is often culturally gendered as female, and male explorers often lauded as masters of her, of men as capable of taming her destructive hysteria: this narrative is highly problematic for a number of reasons. “In the Desert” asks: how do women engage with their natural world? What is the relationship between our cerebral selves and that which cannot be contained? In the end, the speaker, battered, exhalted, must both surrender and fight. It’s a noble and maybe hopeless task.
Musically, it starts in a bright and ethereal texture that gradually becomes more spacious to paint the colors of the constellations. As the piece progresses, it becomes grittier and busier in material to portray the rapid activity of the lizards, sand gusts, and overarching sense of breathlessness. The work ends with a spacious and earthy atmosphere that is darker and warmer than the rest of the piece. Musically, it should feel weighted and heavy to represent the mountains and sun beating humanity down into reality. At some point in our lives, we all come to terms with the fact that we are much smaller than the world we exist in. How we deal with that realization can be a matter of life and death.

This video asks the question . . . Do you want your ice cubed or crushed? Maybe, you have been plagued by this question. Have you ever thought about the appropriate action to takewhen selecting a beverage, and what frozen water to pair it with? CUBED ICE? ICE CUBES? CRUSHED ICE? ICE CRUSHED?
No matter how you say the words, I think that there is a belief that beverages taste better when you choose the right ice or choose no ice at all. We welcome Narik back to Bonzai Progressive with a superb slice titled, Rush. This one follows his 2020 cut, Shaka EP and promises to be just as well received. Growing up in the 70’s, Narik aka Johann Bomy, experienced all kinds of music, but it was the New Beat, House Music era that really grabbed his attention, making him passionate about electronic music in general. He was always on the lookout for the latest tracks which helped him learn about and want to know more about where the music came from. This turned into a desire to start producing and, since 2017 he has churned out a raft of quality cuts on various labels with a great support base. Always a pleasure to have him on board.

The Original Mix opens with a celestial pad and a though provoking spoken vocal. Chunky beats and rhythmic hats get the groove moving as the pads intensify, layering up and harmonising, taking us to the stratosphere. The tracks main focus is to get us to think, through music, a message of hope and ways to achieve peace. The perfect start to 2021.

Madrid based producer, Jacob Singer returns with a solid remix. Jacob has been an integral part of the Bonzai Progressive sound for a number of years now. Since 2017, he’s dished out 10 original releases and just as many remixes. He started out in music playing the guitar and was heavily influenced by rock and metal bands for many years. After he discovered electronic music however, he soon realised that this is where his passion lay. Now a veteran on the progressive scene he has churned out many noteworthy releases on various labels and, as always, it’s great to have him here. On the remix here, Jacob digs deep, delivering an edgy mover with tough beats and a mesmerizing underlay. Rolling basses glide through, in contrast to swirling, melodic pads. The vocal stands out, providing the narrative, getting the mind to think. Top-notch remix, not to be missed.

Nibiru returns to Bonzai Progressive, fresh off the back of a solid debut titled, The Circus Noon, with an equally solid remix. Here, the remix centres around that celestial vibe created by the emotive pads and delicate, melodic notes. The vocal comes through, bringing that sense of hope, providing a retrospective narrative for the future generation. The groove is driven by solid beats and a powerful, pulsating bassline, perfect fodder for any progressive set, a must have.

# 1.) In a galaxy far, far away, a psychopathic emperor and his most trusted servant - a former Jedi Knight known as Darth Vader - are ruling a universe with fear. They have built a horrifying weapon known as the Death Star, a giant battle station capable of annihilating a world in less than a second. When the Death Star's master plans are captured by the fledgling Rebel Alliance, Vader starts a pursuit of the ship carrying them. A young dissident Senator, Leia Organa, is aboard the ship & puts the plans into a maintenance robot named R2-D2. Although she is captured, the Death Star plans cannot be found, as R2 & his companion, a tall robot named C-3PO, have escaped to the desert world of Tatooine below. Through a series of mishaps, the robots end up in the hands of a farm boy named Luke Skywalker, who lives with his Uncle Owen & Aunt Beru. Owen & Beru are viciously murdered by the Empire's stormtroopers who are trying to recover the plans, and Luke & the robots meet with former Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi to try to return the plans to Leia Organa's home, Alderaan. After contracting a pilot named Han Solo & his Wookiee companion Chewbacca, they escape an Imperial blockade. But when they reach Alderaan's coordinates, they find it destroyed - by the Death Star. They soon find themselves caught in a tractor beam & pulled into the Death Star. Although they rescue Leia Organa from the Death Star after a series of narrow escapes, Kenobi becomes one with the Force after being killed by his former pupil - Darth Vader. They reach the Alliance's base on Yavin's fourth moon, but the Imperials are in hot pursuit with the Death Star, and plan to annihilate the Rebel base. The Rebels must quickly find a way to eliminate the Death Star before it destroys them as it did Alderaan.

* # 2.) Luke Skywalker stays with his foster aunt and uncle on a farm on Tatooine. He is desperate to get off this planet and get to the Academy like his friends, but his uncle needs him for the next harvest. Meanwhile, an evil emperor has taken over the galaxy, and has constructed a formidable Death Star capable of destroying whole planets. Princess Leia, a leader in the resistance movement, acquires plans of the Death Star, places them in R2D2, a droid, and sends him off to find Obi-Wan Kenobi. Before he finds him, R2D2 ends up on Skywalkers' farm with his friend C3PO. R2 then wanders into the desert, and when Luke follows, they eventually come across Obi-Wan. Will Luke, Obi-Wan, and the two droids be able to destroy the Death Star, or will the Emperor rule forever ?

You will pass through free range cows and carabaos, lahar, rivers and big boulders. It's gonna be an hour of really rough paths but you will surely have fun.

Also, this is only the initial part of the adventure. After this ride you'll be trekking for 2 hours to reach the crater. It's gonna be hot. So be prepared. But don't worry. Really. Because the crater is such a beauty. Every second of the trek will be worth it.
