    About Antonio Vivaldi (from Wikipedia)

Antonio Lucio Vivaldi (Italian: [anˈtɔːnjo ˈluːtʃo viˈvaldi]; 4 March 1678 – 28 July 1741) was a Venetian Baroque composer, virtuoso violinist, teacher and cleric. Born in Venice, he is recognized as one of the greatest Baroque composers, and his influence during his lifetime was widespread across Europe. He is known mainly for composing many instrumental concertos, for the violin and a variety of other instruments, as well as sacred choral works and more than forty operas. His best-known work is a series of violin concertos known as The Four Seasons.

Many of his compositions were written for the female music ensemble of the Ospedale della Pietà, a home for abandoned children where Vivaldi (who had been ordained as a Catholic priest) was employed from 1703 to 1715 and from 1723 to 1740. Vivaldi also had some success with expensive stagings of his operas in Venice, Mantua and Vienna. After meeting the Emperor Charles VI, Vivaldi moved to Vienna, hoping for preferment. However, the Emperor died soon after Vivaldi's arrival, and Vivaldi himself died less than a year later in poverty.

    About Classical Music (from Wikipedia)

Classical music is art music produced or rooted in the traditions of Western music, including both liturgical (religious) and secular music. While a similar term is also used to refer to the period from 1750-1820 (the Classical period), this article is about the broad span of time from roughly the 11th century to the present day, which includes the Classical period and various other periods.[1] The central norms of this tradition became codified between 1550 and 1900, which is known as the common practice period. The major time divisions of classical music are as follows: the early music period, which includes the Medieval (500–1400) and the Renaissance (1400–1600) eras; the Common practice period, which includes the Baroque (1600–1750), Classical (1750–1820), and Romantic eras (1804–1910); and the 20th century (1901–2000) which includes the modern (1890–1930) that overlaps from the late 19th-century, the high modern (mid 20th-century), and contemporary or postmodern (1975–2015) eras.

Antonio Lucio Vivaldi (4 March 1678 – 28 July 1741) was an Italian Baroque musical composer, virtuoso violinist, teacher and cleric. Born in Venice, he is recognized as one of the greatest Baroque composers, and his influence during his lifetime was widespread across Europe. He composed many instrumental concertos, for the violin and a variety of other instruments, as well as sacred choral works and more than forty operas. His best-known work is a series of violin concertos known as the Four Seasons.

Many of his compositions were written for the all-female music ensemble of the Ospedale della Pietà, a home for abandoned children where Vivaldi (who had been ordained as a Catholic priest) was employed from 1703 to 1715 and from 1723 to 1740. Vivaldi also had some success with expensive stagings of his operas in Venice, Mantua and Vienna. After meeting the Emperor Charles VI, Vivaldi moved to Vienna, hoping for preferment. However, the Emperor died soon after Vivaldi's arrival, and Vivaldi himself died, in poverty, less than a year later.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was still a very young child when he received his first violin lessons, lessons that were based in all likelihood on the violin tutor published in 1756 by is father, Leopold, who was employed at that time as a violinist in the service of the prince-archbishop of Salzburg. If contemporary accounts may be trusted, the young Mozart must have been highly proficient on the instrument, since he too was employed as a violinist in the local orchestra during his years in Salzburg. His special relationship with the violin finds its sonatas that he wrote in the course of his life. The violin concerto, by contrast, was a genre that caught his attention only once, all five of his contributions to the medium dating from 1774/75. There are five official concertos. But, much remains unclear, however. There is also, a concerto in E flat (K.268), but its authenticity is ope to question, while the D Violin Concerto (K 271i) survives only in the form of a late transcription made in Paris in the 19th century, the original form of which can no longer be reconstructed with any certainty. Britta Sweers

The violin virtuoso and conductor Josef Suk (1929-2011) is a representative of a line of Czech performing art of the past. He has developed the legacy of his excellent teachers, mainly Jaroslav Kocian and his grandfather, the composer Josef Suk, who for a long-time was a member of the famed Czech Quartet. From the beginning of his solo career Suk has also been interested in chamber playing, and was for a short time the first violinist of the Prague Quartet (1950–52), and then for a long time of the Suk Trio, which he had established in 1951. In 1961 he was appointed soloist of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. Suk has a special liking for the viola, the instrument of his great grandfather Antonín Dvořák. In 1981 he became the artistic leader and conductor of the Suk Chamber Orchestra. His recordings have won various prizes, such as the Grand Prix du disque de l´Academie Charles Cros in Paris six times, in 1972 he won the Edison Prize in Holland, in 1974 the “Wiener Flötenuhr” prize of the Mozart Society in Vienna, and many others. In 1977 Josef Suk received the Golden Disc of Culumbia, the Golden Disc of Supraphon in 1986 and in 1999 he was granted the Platinum Disc of Supraphon for 1,112,000 recordings sold. He has been a teacher of violin playing and has sat on many juries of international competitions. He has also taken part in the work of foundations such as the Dvořák Foundation for Young Performers in Prague. He is president and chairman of the artistic board of the Prague Spring International Music Festival..

    ABOUT MULTIPIANO:

MultiPiano is a unique keyboard project, presenting four of Israel’s virtuoso pianists in a celebration of pianos in ever-changing combinations – from one to four pianos, from 4 to 8 hands, with or without orchestra. The ensemble’s repertoire ranges from fully-fledged original masterworks to dazzling virtuoso arrangements.

Now in its fourth year, the ensemble has already performed on four continents, from Beijing Concert Hall to Buenos Aires’ Teatro Colon, from New-York’s Merkin Hall to London’s Henri Wood Hall, collaborating with such institutions as the English Chamber Orchestra, the Israel Chamber Orchestra, Buenos Aires Mozarteum Argentino and Conciertos Grapa, the Philharmonic Society of Lima, the music festivals of Taipei, Huallien, Ottawa, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, as well as on television and radio networks from Asia to South America.

The MultiPiano project was launched in the 2010-11 season under the umbrella of the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music – a joint institution of Tel Aviv University and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Featuring three of Israel`s most radiant young pianists and their mentor, Tomer Lev – one of the country’s most prominent musicians – the MultiPiano project attracted much international attention immediately upon its inauguration. In 2011 the group successfully toured the Far East, with performances in Beijing, Taipei, Kaohshiung and Tainan, including a Gala opening of the Kuandu Festival in Taiwan in cooperation with the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

In summer 2012 the group was presented throughout Latin America’s foremost concert halls in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Peru, including Teatro Colon and the Gran Rex (Buenos Aires), Teatro Del Sodre (Montevideo) and a live broadcast performance in Radio Nacional of Argentina, televised by PBS (TV Publica). Additional presentations included performances for the respected Mozarteum Argentino concert agency, The Philharmonic Society of Lima (opening concert of the Jubilee Festival), Sao Paulo Friends of Tel Aviv University, and concerts in Rosario and Cordoba.
Shortly thereafter the group performed for the second time in the Far East (Taipei and Hualien International Music Festival).

In spring of 2013 MultiPiano was presented at the Felicja Blumental Music Festival in Tel Aviv and the Israel Festival in Jerusalem, including solo performances with the Israel Chamber Orchestra (Bach-Vivaldi concerto for 4 pianos) and live broadcasts for Israel Radio (IBA). The Tel Aviv Soloists, Haifa Symphony and the Israel Netanya Kibbutz orchestras hosted MultiPiano for performances of Bach, Mozart, Poulenc and Levanon concerti for 2, 3 and 4 pianos. In addition, the ensemble had its third tour to the Far East (Beijing Concert Hall, Tienjin Grand Theatre, Chengdu Music Hall ).

In fall 2013 MultiPiano was presented in two North American tours, including performances at Merkin Hall in New York City, as well as in Montreal, Ottawa, and Chicago. The New York Times described their performance as “a celebration of Multi-hands and Multi-keyboards”.

In Spring 2014 the ensemble toured South America for the second time, as soloists with the Israel Netanya Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra, with concerts in Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Lima and Bogota.
In Fall 2014 MultiPiano collaborated with the English Chamber Orchestra in a recording of Mozart Concertos for two and three pianos, as well as in a world premiere recording of Mozart’s “Larghetto and Allegro” – a 1781 fragment left unfinished and completed and orchestrated by Tomer Lev for two pianos and orchestra.

    A. Our CDs are available on iTunes, Google, Amazon, CD Baby and just about everywhere; you can also buy a CD in a jewel case from Kunaki:
    Q. What is Early Music performance, or historical performance?
    A. We play on instruments from the time of the composers, and we use the original music and playing techniques: it’s a special sound.
    Q. Why are there no conductors?
    A. Conductors weren’t invented until the 19th century; since we seek to recreate a historical performance, the music is led from the keyboard or violin, or the music is played as chamber music~or both :)
    Q. What are period instruments or original instruments; how are they different from modern instruments?
    A. As instruments became modernized in the 19th century, builders and players tended to focus on the volume of sound and the stability of tuning. Modern steel strings replaced the older materials, and instruments were often machine made. Historical instruments, built individually by hand and with overall lighter construction, have extremely complex overtones—which we find delightful. Modern instruments are of course perfectly suited to more modern music.
    Q. Why is the pitch lower, or higher?
    A. Early Music performance uses many different pitches, and these pitches create different tone colors on the instruments. See
Vivaldi's brilliant concerto is here presented complete in 4K, ultra high definition video, performed on original instruments.
