  • Wave Over Wave/Shine On, Alan Doyle Trio, Lower Deck Pub CCMA Weekend Pop-Up Show

Alan opening up Set #2 of his Lower Deck pop-up gig solo with a much-loved GBS classic (written by Newfoundland's own Jim Payne), followed by what's become a much-loved Alan Doyle & The Beautiful Gypsies song. Awesome all around. Halifax, September 12, 2015

  • Lovers In A Dangerous Time, Alan Doyle Trio, Lower Deck Pub, Halifax

Alan gives both Cory and Kendel a chance to shine (and do they ever blaze brightly!) during their CCMA Lower Deck pop-up gig on one of the most powerful of the many covers I've heard of this classic Bruce Cockburn song. Awesome sound from this mega-talented trio - this would be a splendid addition to the repertoire at both Trio and full AD & The Beautiful Gypsies gigs. Lower Deck, Halifax. September 12, 2015

  • The Old Black Rum, Alan Doyle, Twitter Request Segment, Schooner Room, Halifax

Not what I expected Alan to do as one of his Twitter Request songs on his Halifax Boy On Bridge Tour stop, but it sure went over like a house afire, hearkening back to those GBS Lower Deck days. something the Halifax crowd always loves. Schooner Room, June 9, 2012

All part of a wonderful, moving, inspiring evening filled with music, laughter, tears and friendship. November 19, 2017 (Donate toward John's ongoing care needs here:

  • Barretts Privateers/Molly Malone, Alan Doyle Trio w. Bruce Guthro, Damhnait Doyle, Stuart Cameron

What a night at Halifax's famed Lower Deck Pub during CCMA Week! Alan and his awesome AD Trio-mates Cory Tetford and Kendel Carson put on a spectacular 2-set pop-up show for a jam-packed house at the same pub he got his Mainland start in with Great Big Sea more than 2 decades ago. And to make the night even sweeter - and all the more fun for all involved - a few dear friends came up onto the LD stage to join Alan and his mates for a few fitting-to-the-occasion tunes. August 12, 2015

  • Old Black Rum , Alan Doyle Trio, Champions Bar & Grill, Truro

This Great Big Sea classic song - which Alan dedicated to its writer, Bob Hallett - (plus a wee bit of Neil Diamond) was a huge crowd-pleaser at the AD Band Roadhouse Gig in Truro, especially with the dancers. And I know they're gonna do it again. June 5, 2014

  • Ordinary Day, Alan Doyle Trio, Champions Bar & Grill, Truro, Nova Scotia

Thank God for this song. Alan says this when he performs this classic song, co-written with Sean McCann. Many others agree. Done here at an AD Trio gig at Champions in Truro. June 5, 2014

For You - BNL & Kendel Carson

The AD Trio (Alan & two of his most Beautiful Gypsies, Kendel Carson and Cory Tetford) opened up for BNL at the Flynn Theatre in Burlington VT. And it was just as much fun as everyone expected it to be. Gotta love these two bands together! April 29, 2017

  • 1,2,3,4 - Alan Doyle

  • Old Black Rum w. Halifax Impromptu Intro Song , Great Big Sea, Lower Deck

I very nearly did not put this one up because the quality sucks - and not in the good way. It is blurry as hell, but it is the song that the crowd wanted the most all night long, and I do like Alan's and Sean's Halifax Impromptu Song that begins it (like ice cream in my mouth...pricelessly erotic, that). And at the end of the day, it is probably totally appropriate that Old Black Rum at the Lower Deck turned out blurry. Somehow, it does seem fitting. September 2009

  • If I Had $1,000,000, Barenaked Ladies + Alan Doyle & The Beautiful Gypsies, Massey Hall

More fun than...well, than a pile of flying monkeys, which can be seen here. Plus a Massey Hall lead solo by Cory Tetford, Alan on the Sexy Banjo and Drummer Shehab Illyas! It's all here, a grand time concluding an unforgettable night on one of the most prestigious stages in all of Canada, Home Show of BNL's Silverball Tour. November 13, 2015

  • Kendel Carson X 2: Playing & Singing, Alan Doyle & The Beautiful Gypsies, Sellersville & Rockport

Alan's been giving several of his phenomenally talented band members their own opportunities to shine in the solo spotlight; in these two video clips, the first a breathtaking old-timey fiddle piece from the Rockport MA show and the second a poignant turn on vocals (accompanied by Cory Teford) with a Fred Eaglesmith song in Sellersville PA. When the always-amazing Kendel's not gracing the stage with Alan - - one of several other places her beautiful music can be heard (right now, as a matter of fact) is with her other band, Belle Starr: Sellersville Theatre, Sellersville PA & Shalin Liu Performance Center, Rockport MA. • Cant Dance Without You/Old Black Rum, Alan Doyle w. Cara Butler/StepCrew, Danforth Music Hall, TO

Two clips joined together here from a triumphant night for Alan Doyle and his Beautiful Gypsies at Toronto's famed Danforth Music Hall, the penultimate stop of the first leg of the So Let's Go Tour. Here, on both songs (the OBR clip is just a part of that song), Alan is joined onstage first by the awesome Cara Butler of The StepCrew for Can't Dance Without You (the sound of her dancing can be heard on the So Let's Go album's recorded track of this song), and then on OBR by both Cara and fellow StepCrew member Jon Pilatzke. They made a spectacular night even more so. February 6, 2015 (Apologies for zoom-focus issues: Camera's in for repair now.)

  • If I Had $1,000,000, Barenaked Ladies + Alan Doyle & The Beautiful Gypsies, Grande Prairie AB

On the Grande Prairie AB stop of the Silverball Tour, both bands come out on stage together to close out the headline set in Grand Style with one of BNL's most famous and enduring tunes. Much fun among friends, and look for solos by Gypsies Cory Tetford, Kendel Carson and Paul Kinsman (well, listen for Paul - sadly I had a terrible angle on visuals for him). Revolution Place, October 28, 2015

  • Folsom Prison, Russell Crowe & Carl Falk join Alan Doyle & The Beautiful Gypsies, The Mint, LA

One of several star-studded encores at Alan's deadly So Let's Go Tour stop at The Mint on a sold-out Saturday night in Los Angeles. Awesome! February 28, 2015

  • If I Had $1,000,000 - The Alan Doyle Trio join Barenaked Ladies in Ithaca NY

To make up for that bass-y vid I got of this song the night before from right up front by the speakers, here's one from all the way at the back of Ithaca's State Theater, proving beyond a bit of doubt that the fun these bands have together can be seen and felt and shared from every part of the venue. Grand times in Ithaca! April 30, 2017

  • Wave Over Wave/Lukeys Boat - Pub Gig Style, Alan Doyle Band, Barking Parrot, Penticton BC

Present-day GBS fans always say they wish they could see what a Pub Show would have been like. Well, the AD Band's Barking Parrot gig was just that - a Pub show at its best and its worstt. A woozy, giddy crowd (several of whom wound up self-inviting themselves on stage during the final encore) and a totally enjoyable fly-by-the-seat-of-their-pants performance. During most of this video, Cory is hurriedly re-stringing two guitars; when Alan calls Kendel up on stage to play along on Lukey, it's totally impromptu, him needing to tell her the key of the song she had no clue she would be playing on while Cory labours fiercely as guitar tech. The crowd sings soddenly along with inebriate glee, pretty much oblivious to the nuances. And it all turns out great - as if there were any doubt. Almost like being back at the Sundance. February 8, 2013

  • Lukeys Boat, Alan Doyle Trio, Champions Bar & Grill, Truro

The AD Trio (Alan with Cory Tetford and Kendel Carson) closes out a fun night by bringing down the sold-out house with a rousing version of this classic Newfoundland song, with a whole lot of help from the delighted crowd. June 5, 2014

Turns out this beautiful song of Alan's (which can be found on Great Big Sea's Fortune's Favour album) was her and her husband's wedding song. Her request and Alan's generous granting of it made for a unforgettable moment during a wonderful show. Casino Regina. November 5, 2015
