Interior Design — English Farmhouse-Inspired Kitchen Makeover

    2:59

Designer Vanessa Francis transforms a drab kitchen into a bright English farmhouse-style space. Discover how she combined a serene palette, hits of black and a furniture-style, colorful island to add character to the room.

Vanessa swapped the kitchen’s warm, brown tones for off-white cabinets and countertops. She kept some of the existing cabinets and added crown molding at the top to take them to the ceiling. Black hardware, sconces and lantern lighting deliver graphic punch, while a grey-blue kitchen island offers a subtle wash of color. Classic white subway tile and quartz countertops complete the pretty space.

Interior Design — Beautiful Bedroom Design Ideas For The Whole Family

    3:08

Designer Gillian Gillies shares three bedrooms she designed for a family with two kids. Get her tips on how to create a space personalized to each family member, plus smart bedroom storage solutions that go beyond the closet.

In the parent’s master bedroom, Gillian wanted to create a spa-like retreat, so she used a palette of light green and blue for a soft and serene atmosphere. A built-in wall separates the dressing room, while a custom king-sized storage bed keeps clutter at bay. For the kids rooms, Gillian took a more layered approach with pattern, color and texture. The daughter loves art and is very creative, so Gillian kept the color scheme neutral so she can add in her own prints and accessories. The son’s room didn’t have a closet before the renovation, so adding storage, like a bed with drawers and a built-in desk, was the main focus of the renovation.

    3:27

A dated condo gets a fresh look with a brand new layout and modern design features. See how designer Jodie Rosen transformed the space into a sleek, bright home with unique storage and display solutions.

The layout was originally closed off, so Jodie knocked down the walls that separated the kitchen from the family room. In the kitchen, a giant peninsula offers plenty of of counter space, while a porcelain backsplash that mimics the look of marble adds a sophisticated accent. High-gloss lacquer finish from the cabinets continues onto the millwork in the family room to add flow. A statement bookcase that covers two walls in the den holds the homeowners massive collection of coffee table books while creating a standout design feature.

Interior Design — How To Create A Bright Bedroom-Nursery In A Small Space

    3:18

On we took an awkward-shaped spare room with sloped ceilings and turned it into the ultimate nursery, filled with fresh and fun decorating ideas.

H&H stylist Reiko Caron chose a practical and stylish Stokke crib that will grow with a child from their baby through toddler years. A matching cradle fits into the crib and can move from room-to-room as needed. A yellow sleeper sofa turns the room into a guest bedroom, too. Freestanding bookshelves offer storage for books and toys, and a custom radiator cover offers both space for display and safety. Reiko skipped painting this rental home and instead brought in colour and pattern by layering rugs over the existing carpet and choosing bold pillows and upholstery fabrics. Instead of a store-bought change table, Reiko topped a vintage dresser with a cushion for an easy DIY. Now the odd nooks have purpose, and the brick accent wall is the perfect background for a reading nook, complete with a chic rocking chair that can move to the living room later.

The contemporary home addition is filled with smart storage ideas — including toe-kick drawers, floor-to-ceiling kitchen cabinets and a charging station in the mudroom. In the kitchen and family room, large covelano marble slabs make a statement as both the backsplash and fireplace surround. Skylights flood the rooms with natural light, shining down on the white kitchen cabinets and stainless steel appliances. In the middle of the great room, Lazanik designed a kids' homework zone complete with chalkboard walls and a built-in desk which easily hide away with a motorized roller shade. Interior Design — A Two-Toned Kitchen Makeover

    2:29

Designer Linnea Lions tours a kitchen she designed in homeowner Chantal McKinnon’s 100-year-old home. Learn how she maximized space and storage in a closed kitchen layout while keeping style in mind.

When Chantal first moved into this home, the kitchen lacked function, had dated appliances and was in need of a modern update. She wanted a two-tone kitchen with light uppers and dark grey lower cabinets for a graphic yet airy feel. The space also needed additional storage. The first thing Linnea tackled was hiding the chimney stack with a pantry wall featuring shallow cabinets and pull-out storage. Right next to it, a servery was created with open shelving and a full-height backsplash. A large island with storage grounds the space, and is perfect for entertaining guests. Floating shelves made from reclaimed wood add warmth to the grey and white palette.

Interior Design — Stunning Modern Home Makeover

    4:03

Architect Darcie Watson transforms a former B&B into a striking modern home that doesn’t shut the door on its past. See how she mixed old with the new using carefully curated pieces and impressive millwork.

Originally built in 1905, the home’s rooms were sub-divided into separate bedrooms. So, Darcie created an open-concept space by putting in structural beams. In the kitchen, a salvaged American chestnut island adds a rustic feel to the sleek design aesthetic of the Valcucine system. Deep lower cabinets and white glass flip-up cabinet doors with interchangeable inserts offer flexibility and smart storage. A unit that houses the TV transitions the living room into the handsome home office where dark walls capture the mood of a traditional library. The powder room’s floors and walls are clad in circa-1905 encaustic tiles, making a unique and unexpected statement.

Interior Design – Family-Friendly Bathroom Design Ideas

Designer Dvira Ovadia shares two bathrooms and two powder rooms she designed in one house, each with its own take on classic decorating. Get tips on where to splurge and save, and how to mix finishes and surfaces.

The boys’ bathroom is edgy, and feature classic white subway tiles that contrast perfectly with the walnut cabinetry and black hexagon floor tiles. Interior Design — A Canadian Cottage Makeover With a Dream Kitchen

    3:50

A dark and closed-off cottage on Lake Simcoe gets a major style upgrade by designer Barbara Purdy. See how she completely reimagined the space as a relaxed and refined weekend getaway.

Keeping with a Canadian aesthetic, Barbara painted the walls white and left some of the original wood accents. She opened up the cramped rooms, starting with the entryway, which welcomes with breathtaking views of the water. Once a tiny space at the back, the kitchen is now one of the cottage’s best features, thanks to a barn door, stainless steel countertops, wood cabinets and a black vintage-look storage unit. The living room has access to multiple rooms, so Barbara defined the space with the furniture layout, and placed the TV under the stairs to keep the fireplace open. A sitting area just off the living room offers a cozy spot to read a book on rainy days. The main floor’s finishes are carried upstairs for a cohesive look.

Interior Design – How To Decorate With Color & Pattern In A Small Space

    4:38

Designer Meredith Heron proves that bold decor can look great in a small space. See how she transformed her small family home with standout color and pattern.

To brighten up her tiny, dreary home, Meredith used daring decor in calculated spaces. She defined the foyer with large-scale wallpaper, which opens up to the dining room. In the combined dining and living room, a neutral base allowed Meredith to layer on bright color and playful prints. Not one, but two tablecloths cover the dining table for a quirky take on pattern play. Furniture in different scales makes the rooms look taller than they are. Meredith used an unconventional color palette in the master bedroom, choosing darker shades like indigo. A reupholstered headboard adds a pop of peach, while malachite green night tables are an unexpected element. The bathroom’s small size allowed Meredith to splurge on luxurious finishes, like marble herringbone floors.

Interior Design – How To Get The Mid-Century Modern Look

    3:02

Designer Samantha Sacks shares the secret to designing an elegant mid-century modern space. See how she mixes colour, pattern and vintage heirloom furniture to liven up a Victorian home.

Samantha chose a geometric mid-century rug with Indian influences as the jumping off point to the rest of the decor. The homeowners had a lot of great mid-century furniture passed down from generations, like an old record table, but it needed some updating. She upholstered those pieces with lighter fabrics and brought in graphic patterned pillows and a fur throw to soften the look. Crisp white walls freshen up the space, while vintage chairs bring just the right amount of warmth to the dining table. The result is a stylish, liveable space with sentimental value that mixes old and new.

Interior Design — Tour An Elegant City Condo Filled With Art

    3:18

Antique furniture and traditional details make this small city condo feel like a sophisticated home. See how designer Robert Tanz makes the most of his 775-square-foot space with Art Deco-style pieces, double-duty furniture and a mix of art.

In the eclectic living room, English Georgian neoclassical furniture meets modern art. An abstract drawing above the sofa creates a focal point while a Moorish folding screen cleverly hides the unsightly HVAC system panel. Robert uses the one-bedroom condo as a pied-à-terre, so a galley kitchen is the perfect fit. The cozy traditional bedroom boasts a cool blue palette with built-in shelves that house a TV and objects. Inside the taupe principal bathroom, expansive windows make the space feel larger while a tiered chandelier and a Moroccan tabouret add character.

Elegant accents, like glass chandeliers and panel moulding in the master bedroom, add a high-end aesthetic that’s still suitable for a young family. A lot of the pieces in her home are inherited or antiques, so she painted the older furniture and recovered the chairs with different fabrics for a fresh new look.

Interior Design – How To Renovate An Old Kitchen

    3:04

Designer Priscilla Wikkerink of Wikkerink Design Build shares how she transformed an old kitchen into a warm and inviting space with classic elements. See how she designed the layout so it’s fit for a family of five. Plus, WATCH & WIN a $500 Visa gift card from Icynene! Click here to enter the contest.

Priscilla demolished the kitchen down to the brick, redid the wiring and added insulation using a product called Icynene. The spray foam insulation seals any cracks and holes in old brick and improves energy efficiency, helping to reduce monthly heating and cooling costs.

The kitchen is classic with a vintage feel, thanks to subway tile, dark grey cabinetry and Carrera countertops. Brass hardware is used throughout to add a patina over time.

Contest open to residents of Canada only, excluding Quebec.

Interior Design — Chic Basement Makeover

    2:33

After renovating the main floor of her mid-century modern bungalow, designer Jackie Glass tackled the basement in her new home. See how she transformed a dark, closed-off space into an open-concept lower level perfect for entertaining family and friends. Jackie completely gutted the space by taking down the walls and then creating zones. The lounge area features a stone wall with wine storage, while the TV area is designed to be kid-friendly. Thanks to the additional 1,000-square-foot expansion, Jackie was able to create a gym and spa. Outside, a cozy patio with comfy seating overlooks the pond and surrounding landscape, offering an inviting spot for morning coffee or afternoon reading.

Interior Design — A White Palette Wows In This Bright Toronto Loft Rental

    4:51

Homeowners Elizabeth Dyer, artist and co-owner of the shop Advice From A Caterpillar, and Peter Smith give us a tour of their serene, three-storey loft. See how the two creatives added their own style to the unique space using a white palette.

The homeowners started by brightening the backdrop with white walls and pale flooring. The first floor features the master bedroom and bathroom, as well as a small bedroom with a skylight that’s built into the stairwell. The second floor boasts an open-concept dining room and living area. Elizabeth and Peter furnished the space with easy-to-clean, kid-friendly pieces like butterfly chairs and a canvas rug. In the kitchen, large doors open up to the back garden and terrace, making entertaining easy. The third floor is an all-white studio space, which has tons of natural light thanks to a row of skylights.
