Klymaxx - Meeting In The Ladies Room

    Lyrics:
    Uh-oh
I had to leave my condo to come to this
Well, I'm back but this time I'm with my man
And these women are puttin' their hands all over his
Yamamoto Kanzai sweater that I bought
And I'm much, much unhappy about that
I'd hate to come down to their level and become a BW
A basic woman but if they don't stop, it's gonna get scandalous
    Uh-oh
I've got a meeting in the ladies room (I don't need this)
I'll be back real soon (that's what I get for being in the neighborhood)
I've got a meeting in the ladies room (where's my jewelry?)
I'll be back real soon (can we talk?)
    I don't know
But I think you better watch your man
(Girl, you better watch your man)
'Cause girl, he's doing like nobody else can (all the girls are watching him)
    If you wanna be sure
You best go powder your nose
(Go on and powder your nose)
    'Cause you wanna look good
When you step on the floor
    That's why
I've got a meeting in the ladies room
    I'll be back real soon
I've got a meeting in the ladies room
    I'll be back real soon
Sing, oh oh, oh oh oh
    Mmm, everybody sing it like
Sing, oh oh, oh oh oh
    Stepped through the door
They were standing in line (these ladies took their time)
    Smoking funny cigarettes
And taking their time (guess what must be on their minds)
Somebody pass me a mirror (hurry up)
'Cause I ain't got much time (quick, I got to get right back)
'Cause there's a hunk of man I done left behind
    That's why
I've got a meeting in the ladies room
I'll be back real soon (I told my man)
I've got a meeting in the ladies room
    I'll be back real soon
Sing, oh oh, oh oh oh
    Mm, everybody sing it like
Sing, oh oh, oh oh oh
    Don't be a Freak-a-zoid
    Walked on the floor
    And everybody was jamming
    They're playing my favorite song
    Got me singing along
Can't turn your back for a minute
    Somebody's rocking my man
    And girl
They're doing like nobody else can
Watch out, watch out, watch out
    Excuse me, lady
    This man's with me
    I don't like to share
    You can plainly see
    He looks good
    Good enough to eat
    But believe me, lady
    He belongs to me, yeah
I've got a meeting in the ladies room
I'll be back real soon (oh oh, oh oh oh)
I've got a meeting in the ladies room
    I'll be back real soon
I've got a meeting in the ladies room
    Be back real soon
I've got a meeting in the ladies room
    I'll be back real soon
    Don't slap me
'Cause I'm not in the mood
    Don't, don't
    Don't slap me
'Cause I'm not in the mood
    Don't slap me
'Cause I'm not in the mood
    Don't slap me
'Cause I'm not in the mood
I've got a meeting in the ladies room
I'll be back real soon (oh oh, oh oh oh)
I've got a meeting in the ladies room
I'll be back real soon (oh oh, oh oh oh)
I've got a meeting in the ladies room (get yourself some business, baby)
    I'll be back real soon

  • KC & The Sunshine Band ~ Shake Your Booty 1976 Disco Purrfection Version

    8:21

1976 was the year of the American Bicentennial, 200 years of independence and this booty shaker of a song hit the charts one week after the 4th of July entering at #79 and then #1 nine weeks later on September 11. Definitely the song of the summer of 76, it also spent four weeks at #1 on the R&B/Soul charts. KC was surprised at these accomplishments since he thought the song was NOT going to be a hit. This song came about after a tour when he noticed that there were some people who never got out of their seats during the concert. He addressed this song to those who would not dance. In the best tradition of Earth, Wind & Fire, KC wrote the uplifting lyrics beckoning them to don't fight the feeling, give yourself a chance. He wanted to instill self confidence in people with this song, and did he succeed! KC and The Sunshine Band were more interested in having fun than issuing social commentary and wanted to keep the feeling up. KC feels the song has more depth, and shaking your booty means not just on the dance floor, but in everything you do in life. Writing songs was KC savior, as he often wrote when he was feeling really down and it helped him get through those tough times. Prominently featured is the clavinet, a keyboard instrument with a distinctive bright staccato sound that has appeared in funk, disco, rock, and reggae songs. Here it could easily be mistaken for a guitar as KC went up an octave giving this hit single a higher sound. At the time, (Shake Shake Shake) Shake Your Booty was the #1 single with the most repeated word in its title, a total of four times and a total of seven times in each chorus. Frank Zappa paid homage to KC for his disco parody LP Sheik Yerbouti in 1979. Here is my special extended version just for fun and in time for New Year's!

Come with me our game has just begun
Take my hand we're gonna have some fun
In the suite that's what they all tell me
Incomplete see all their fingers pointing

I say love's what I want, who can take me high
Out into space only shooting love
For the moment he's there, though it's hard to bare
    Out in the cold

    Time is right
    I'm Only Shooting Love
    Times tonight
    That's what I'm thinkin of
    It's allright, ooh
    I'm Only Shooting Love
    Times tonight, ooh
I buy it to you till your high enough

I don't want to make some sort of fuss
That's not what I wanted to, I just need some trust

  • Change - Heaven of my Life 1981

    5:37

Change was an Italian dance band or better an Italian producers project.

The Producers were Mauro Malavasi, Jacques Fred Petrus and David Romani.
This is Change's 2nd Album, and the first, without lead vocals by a pre-stardom Luther Vandross.
Much ado was made about James Robinson taking over the lead vocal duties, including unfair comparisons. Lost in the discussion was the fact that Miracles is a very good album.
(IMHO James Crab Robison did a great Job, offcourse there is no replacing Luther but he surely has a gr8 voice of his own)

The chugging, thumpin' Paradise went to number seven R&B in spring 1981.The soul-tugging Heaven of My Life was the third single. Its flip side was the mellow Miracles, a loving ode from a father to his daughter. Other highlights are the dreamy second single Hold Tight, the smooth radio-aired Your Move, and the sweet ballad Stop for Love.

    6:01

This is the 1st and 2nd track off the High Priority album from Cherrelle. This is the opening track and goes into track 2, You Look Good To Me.

**This is the entire song. Not sure why, but the re-release of the High Priority CD in 2003 has the edited version of this song that leaves out the entire 2nd verse. The full version is only on the original release from 1986 or Cherrelle's Greatest Hits CD.

    Lyrics:

    You look good to me
    You look good to me

It was Friday 'bout a week ago
My friends were going out they said Cherrelle let's go
Saw a guy who really knocked me dead
Looked him in the eyes and quickly said

    You look good to me
    When you walk
I just loose all my control

    You look good to me
    And when you talk
I just wanna kiss your big mouth baby

Boy I sized you up with just one glance
And then I figured out I had to take my chance
Excuse me baby, if I seem to bold
But innocence could leave me in the cold

    You look good to me
    When you walk
I just loose all my control

    You look good to me
    And when you talk
I just wanna kiss your big mouth baby

    Babe
I want you to know you look good to me
    So I'm telling you
    Baby
    Baby
    Baby

Never ever been a forward girl
    I just speak my mind
Being honest never felt so good
    Or looked so fine

    Looking good isn't everything
And personality wont make emotions ring
The combination is what love's about
I'm not in love but I have no doubt

    You look good to me
    When you walk
I just loose all my control

    You look good to me
    And when you talk
I just wanna kiss your big mouth baby

    Wait a minute

    Hey girls
    YEAH
Are there any good looking men out there
    YEAH

    Hello men
    (Men yelling)
    Ha ha
Well if you think you're fine
Then try to sing along with my line

Na na na na na na na na
Na na na na na na na na
    Na na na na na
    Na na na na na
    Na na na
    Na na na

    WOO
You sound as good as you look

    You look good to me
    You look good to me
    You look good to me
    You look good to me
    You look good to me
    You look good to me
    You look good to me
    Somebody wanna dance with me

    Never been a forward girl
    (I just speak my mind)
Being honest never felt so good
    Or looked so fine
    Oh oh oh oh
    Uh Uh
    Oh oh oh oh
    (Can't understand the lyrics here)
    SING IT

    Na na na
    Na na na
    Na na na na na
    Na na na na na
    Na na
    Na na
    Ha ha, that was good
    Now repeat after me

    You look good to me
    You look good to me
    You look good to me
    You look good to me
    You look good to me
    You look good to me
    You look good to me
    You look good to me

    You look good to me
    You look good to me
    You look good to me
    You look good to me
    You look good to me
    You look good to me
    You look good to me

  • KC & The Sunshine Band ~ Im Your Boogie Man 1977 Disco Purrfection Version

    8:29

In its formative stages, this song had dummy lyrics that went like I'll be a son of a gun, look what you done about a relationship gone bad. KC was not happy with the song, and was inspired when he thought about the DJ's who played his band's music in the clubs. That's when the lyric I'm your boogie man came out and he finished the song making the DJ the subject and working in the idea that he was there to help and make you feel better. On the album Part 3, it segues directly into Keep It Comin' Love keeping the dancers on the floor and preaching to the masses to not give up, the Rev KC was testifying! He felt that many fight to get somewhere to get ahead, but end up quitting just before they would have succeeded and these two songs together got the message out there. The chart ascension of I'm Your Boogie Man made it their fourth #1 hit of the 70's and made them the second group to do so. The Jackson Five first did it with ABC, I Want You Back, The Love You Save and I'll Be There...KC & The Sunshine Band followed this up with Keep It Comin' Love that peaked at #2 that fall and broke the longstanding habit of having one song reach #1 and then the follow ups did not even break top 20. The floundered a bit before the end of the decade, but came up with a change in beat for Please Don't Go their last #1 hit, and the first #1 of the 1980's. In total they had five #1 hits and helped to define pop music in the disco era.

  • Melvin Van Peebles - Hoppin John from Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song

    2:26

Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song, now on CD and 180-gram vinyl:

Stax Records, an imprint of Concord Music Group and its Catalog Division, Craft Recordings, is pleased to announce the reissue of one of its most provocative titles: Melvin Van Peebles’ Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song. Consistently hailed as a landmark, genre-defining album, this 1971 soundtrack -- performed by a then-unknown Earth, Wind & Fire with contributions by Van Peebles -- will be made available on May 26th for the very first time in high-res and standard digital formats. The vinyl edition features audio remastered from the original analog tapes and cut on the original Stax lathe at Memphis’ Ardent studios, then pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Memphis Record Pressing. The remastered LP also includes new liner notes from author, journalist and music critic Jeff Weiss, as well as from Melvin’s son Mario Van Peebles, director of New Jack City (1991) and 2003’s Baadasssss!, which chronicles the making of his father’s landmark film.
Trailblazing writer, director, actor and composer Melvin Van Peebles was financially and creatively responsible for the entire production of Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song. Van Peebles not only directed, scripted, and edited the film, but also wrote the score and directed the marketing campaign. The film, which in the end grossed more than $10 million (the highest ever for an independent film at the time), was acclaimed for its political resonance with the black struggle. In his liner notes, Jeff Weiss notes, “For all the resistance mounting in the streets, no black director had yet made a film that captured the spirit of rebellion, frustration and the refusal to accept injustice. Van Peebles alchemized Malcolm X, Iceberg Slim and Soul on Ice with Huey Newton, Gil-Scott Heron and the French New Wave. Badass cinema was born.” The Black Panthers made the film required viewing. And despite the fact that few theaters would screen the X-rated film, the soundtrack helped to market the film to the masses, through radio waves and word of mouth. The success of the film proved to be a genre-defining moment, giving birth to Blaxploitation, and opening the doors for films like Shaft and Super Fly.
The soundtrack features a combination of hymn-based vocalization and jazz rhythms, capturing the funky, gritty and soulful spirit of the time, and foreshadowing the use of sampling that would occur in hip hop music, some 20 years later. Weiss adds, “The soundtrack operates like a surrealist Mobius strip comprised of call-and-response chants against the man…It’s as avant-garde as the film’s kinetic mix of psychedelic jump cuts and dream-like sequences. The music becomes a character itself, unseen but forcefully heard.”
The reissue of Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song is part of a wider, year-long initiative, celebrating Stax Records’ 60th anniversary. The cross-label collaboration between Concord Music Group and Rhino Entertainment will highlight the hits, deep cuts and rare tracks from the Memphis label’s heyday of the '60s and ‘70s.
