  • The Real Thing - Can You Feel The Force 1979 Rare Video

    3:33

The Real Thing - a Liverpool based vocal group, had its origins in the Merseybeat boom of the 1960s. Lead Singer Eddie Amoo was a former band member of The Chants, whose beat singles gathered considerable critical acclaim, although they failed to chart. After continuing to record for various record labels, the band name was eventually dropped.

Re-labelled as The Real Thing, and with brother Chris Amoo, Ray Lake and Dave Smith on board, they got their big break following an appearance on the Opportunity Knocks ITV talent show. Original members of the group who appeared on Opportunity Knocks were, Chris Amoo, Kenny Davis (deceased) Dave Smith, Eddie Ankrah, and Ray Lake(deceased).

They were spotted by an ex-Radio Luxembourg DJ, Tony Hall, who played a significant part in their early career development. Even so, success was not immediate, and contracts they signed with a couple of major record labels came to nothing. Then, in 1975, they signed to Pye Records. Touring as backing singers with David Essex for a spell also helped to increase their profile.

With a song written and produced by Ken Gold and Mick Denne, The Real Thing finally emerged in 1976 when You to me are Everything sailed up to the number one slot in the UK Singles Chart. The same song would be re-released as 'The Decade Remix' in 1986 and achieve an even higher UK chart position of number three, being remixed by Froggy, Simon Harris and KC.

This first success led to nine hits on Pye over a three year period, including Can't Get By Without You, and Can You Feel The Force, both of which were top five success stories.

  • Change - Heaven of my Life 1981

    5:37

Change was an Italian dance band or better an Italian producers project.

The Producers were Mauro Malavasi, Jacques Fred Petrus and David Romani.
This is Change's 2nd Album, and the first, without lead vocals by a pre-stardom Luther Vandross.
Much ado was made about James Robinson taking over the lead vocal duties, including unfair comparisons. Lost in the discussion was the fact that Miracles is a very good album.
(IMHO James Crab Robison did a great Job, offcourse there is no replacing Luther but he surely has a gr8 voice of his own)

The chugging, thumpin' Paradise went to number seven R&B in spring 1981.The soul-tugging Heaven of My Life was the third single. Its flip side was the mellow Miracles, a loving ode from a father to his daughter. Other highlights are the dreamy second single Hold Tight, the smooth radio-aired Your Move, and the sweet ballad Stop for Love.

    I loved it & still do :D

This song was written & produced by Paul Laurence Jones III
Kashif & Paul Laurence went on producing and making solo albums,
Kashif was the most succesfull with his solo work compared to Paul
Paul did release two albums with some very nice songs, but he never reached the succes
he did achieve with his production work
He had had seven number one R&B hits: Freddie Jackson's Rock Me Tonight (For Old Times Sake), Jam Tonight, Tasty Love, Hey Lover, Do Me Again; Stephanie Mills' (You're Putting) A Rush on Me; and Meli'sa Morgan's Do Me Baby. His other credits include Evelyn King's (her label RCA suggested that she drop Champagne) summer 1981 number one R&B hit I'm in Love, her number one R&B hit Love Come Down, Don't Hide Our Love, and Get Loose, as well as hits by Lillo Thomas.

I have no clue what happened to Morrie Brown though

The project was a collaborative effort between the band's namesake James D. Train Williams, who was featured as the lead vocalist and songwriter, and Hubert Eaves III, a keyboardist and producer who performed the instrumentation on the recordings. Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Williams himself was a R&B/dance producer as well. He and Eaves met during high school and began performing together. Eaves would spend most of the 1970s as a member of the R&B band Mtume. However, by the 1980s, he and Williams had teamed up again. The group named themselves D. Train after a nickname Williams had acquired as a football player in high school.
    D. Train released their first single You're the One For Me in late 1981. The track became an instant success, hitting #1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart that year; it has been remixed and re-released successfully several times since, and was contemporaneously covered by Paul Hardcastle with vocalist Kevin Henry in the United Kingdom. The duo's self-titled debut album (which prominently featured the You're the One For Me title on the front cover, and the album sometimes became known by this name) followed in early 1982, and several additional singles from this effort were successful on both the R&B and Dance charts, although they were not as popular as the debut hit. Among these tracks were Keep On, which reached #2 on the Dance chart, and a cover version of the Burt Bacharach/Hal David penned Walk On By, that owed more to the Isaac Hayes version than to Dionne Warwick's original recording.
In 1983, the band released their follow-up album, Music. The title track became another dance-floor anthem and is the most gospel infused of D-Train's floor fillers.[citation needed] This track nearly equalled the success of the group's debut single. Several other singles from the album were moderately successful.
In 1984, D. Train had their only Billboard Hot 100 entry with Something's On Your Mind, which climbed to #79 and was later covered by Miles Davis on his album You're Under Arrest. The single also cracked the top five on the R&B chart, becoming the group's biggest hit in that market as well. The accompanying album, also titled Something's On Your Mind, found the band branching out into new musical territory, incorporating elements of reggae and more adult contemporary-oriented R&B into their music.[1] Williams himself played acoustic guitar on a cover of Carole King's So Far Away.
A Greatest Hits album entitled You're the One for Me- The Very Best of D'Train was issued in several European countries in 1985 [1]. Featured on this compilation was a remixed version of You're the One for Me, and the tune charted a second time that year. The remixing on this version of the song was done by Paul Hardcastle, who had previously issued a cover version of the song, and by 1985 had become well-known for his own hit 19. Despite this success, the group would disband that same year.

Come with me our game has just begun
Take my hand we're gonna have some fun
In the suite that's what they all tell me
Incomplete see all their fingers pointing

I say love's what I want, who can take me high
Out into space only shooting love
For the moment he's there, though it's hard to bare
    Out in the cold

    Time is right
    I'm Only Shooting Love
    Times tonight
    That's what I'm thinkin of
    It's allright, ooh
    I'm Only Shooting Love

  • Archie Bell & The Drells - Tighten up

    3:18

Tighten Up was a 1968 song by Houston, Texas based R&B vocal group Archie Bell & the Drells. It reached #1 on both the Billboard R&B and pop charts in the spring of 1968. It is ranked #265 on the Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and is one of the earliest funk hits in music history.
Tighten Up was written by Archie Bell and Billy Buttier. It was one of the first songs that Archie Bell & the Drells recorded, in a session in 1967, along with a number of songs including She's My Woman. Soon afterwards Bell was drafted into the U.S. Army and began serving in Vietnam. The song became a hit in Houston, and was picked up by Atlantic Records for distribution in April 1968. By the summer it topped both the Billboard R&B and pop charts. It also sold a million copies by May 1968, gaining an R.I.A.A. gold disc. The line in Tighten Up, we dance just as good as we walk was a little ironic, given that Bell had been shot in the leg and was consigned to a military hospital bed at the time.

The introduction features Bell introducing himself as being from Houston, Texas. According to the Billboard Book of Number One Hits by Fred Bronson, Bell heard a comment after the Kennedy assassination in Dallas, that nothing good ever came out of Texas. Bell wanted his listeners to know we were from Texas and we were good.

The song described an accompanying dance that the band had invented, also called the Tighten Up; this dance became popular concurrently with the song.

The phenomenal success of the single prompted the band to rush out an album, despite their incapacitated leader. In 1969 the group recorded their first full album with Gamble and Huff, I Can't Stop Dancing, which reached number 28 on the R&B chart.

Hailing from New York, the dance-disco outfit Indeep scored a massive hit in 1983 with Last Night a DJ Saved My Life. Led by songwriter Michael Cleveland, the band issued a full-length album under the same title shortly thereafter, but with the disco movement almost extinct by this time (and with the emergence of such styles as rap), Indeep subsequently had a tough time following up their smash and were delegated to one-hit wonder status. The act continued recording into the mid-'80s, and issued a few quickly forgotten albums: When Boys Talk, Buffalo Bill, and The Record Keeps Spinning. But the group's lone hit has become a dancefloor classic over the years, and 1991 saw the release of the 23-track best-of set, The Collection.

Double Dutch Bus is a 1981 funk song by Frankie Smith, made famous for its extensive use of the izz infix form of slang. The song title represents a combination of two institutions in Smith's Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, neighborhood: the double Dutch game of jump rope played by neighborhood kids, and the SEPTA bus system that was a backbone of the local transportation network (and for which Smith had unsuccessfully applied for a bus driving position; the Transpass referred to in the song is an actual SEPTA pass). Smith and co-writer Bill Bloom persuaded contacts at WMOT Records to finance the song, and it was recorded in the summer of 1981, engineered by Gene Leone. The song rocketed to popularity in a matter of weeks. On the U.S. Billboard R&B chart, it held the number one spot for eight weeks. It also crossed over to the Billboard Hot 100, where it peaked at number 30 in the summer of 1981.[1] The record has received two separate gold certifications, one for sales of the 7 edit, and a second gold record for sales of the 12 single.

    8:23

Good Times is a 1979 song composed by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers. It was first recorded by their band, Chic, for their 1979 album, Risqué. In August of that year it became the band's second number one single on both the Billboard Hot 100 and soul singles chart. Along with the tracks, My Forbidden Lover, and My Feet Keep Dancing, Good Times reached number three on the disco charts. The song has become one of the most sampled tunes in music history, most notably in rap and hip-hop music. Billboard magazine named Good Times the number one R&B single for 1979.

The song is ranked #229 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

The lyrics are largely based on Milton Ager's Happy Days Are Here Again. It also contains lines based on lyrics featured in About a Quarter to Nine made famous by Al Jolson. Nile Rodgers has stated that these depression-era lyrics were used as a hidden way to comment on the then-current economic depression in the United States.

Chic is an American band that was organized during 1976 by guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards. It is known best for its commercially successful disco songs, including Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah) (1977), Everybody Dance (1977), Le Freak (1978), I Want Your Love (1978), Good Times (1979), and My Forbidden Lover (1979). The group regarded themselves as a rock band for the disco movement that made good on hippie peace, love and freedom. In October 2014, Chic was nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the tenth time.

This week we’re giving you Crown Heights Affair’s 7th studio album “Sure Shot”. Crown Heights Affair recruited producer Bert DeCoteaux for this album, mostly known for hits with Sister Sledge; the resulting Sure Shot remains a minor masterpiece. The album is highlighted by the disco classic You Give Me Love, a Top Ten U.K. pop hit during the summer of 1980 before disco music took a nosedive. Vintage Crown Heights Affair grooves found their way onto latter-day hip-hop and R&B records through tons of sampling.

Shalamar is an American R&B and soul music vocal group, based in New-York, and active in the mid-1970s and throughout the 1980s, that was originally a disco-driven vehicle created by Soul Train booking agent Dick Griffey and show creator and producer Don Cornelius. They went on to be an influential dance trio, masterminded by Cornelius. As noted in the British Hit Singles & Albums, they were regarded as fashion icons and trendsetters, and helped to introduce body-popping to the United Kingdom. Their collective name, Shalamar, was picked by Griffey.
