  • Giorgio Moroder - Chase

    13:14

Chase is an electronic instrumental by Giorgio Moroder from the Academy Award-winning soundtrack and album Midnight Express (1978), then extended and released as maxi single and made the Hot 100 singles charts in January of 1979, charting as high as #33. Although originally branded as disco, the song is considered to be, along with Donna Summer's I Feel Love, a pioneer of the hi-NRG genre that came to prominence in the early 1980's. The music was arranged by Giorgio Moroder with Harold Faltermeyer.

Giovanni Giorgio Moroder is an influential Italian record producer, songwriter, performer and DJ. Moroder is frequently credited with pioneering synth disco and electronic dance music.

When in Munich in the 1970s, he started his own record label called Oasis Records, which several years later became a subdivision of Casablanca Records. He collaborated with Donna Summer during the era of disco (including Love to Love You Baby and I Feel Love) and is the founder of the former Musicland Studios in Munich, a recording studio used by many renowned artists including Electric Light Orchestra, Led Zeppelin, Queen and Elton John.

In addition to producing several hits with Donna Summer, Moroder also produced a number of electronic disco hits for The Three Degrees, two albums for Sparks, a handful of songs on Bonnie Tyler's album Bitterblue as well as her 1985 single Here She Comes and a score of songs for performers including David Bowie, Irene Cara, Madleen Kane, Melissa Manchester, Blondie, Japan, and France Joli.

Moroder made his first steps in music in the Scotch-Club in Aachen and then released a few singles under the name Giorgio beginning in 1966 after moving to Berlin, singing in Italian, Spanish, English, and German. He came to prominence in 1969, when his recording Looky Looky, released on Ariola Records, was awarded a gold disc in October 1970. He then began making a name for himself in studios around Germany in the early 1970s. Often collaborating with lyricist Pete Bellotte, Moroder had a number of hits in his own name including Son of My Father in 1972, a No. 1 hit in Great Britain for Chicory Tip, before releasing the synthesizer-driven From Here to Eternity, a notable chartbuster in 1977. That same year he co-wrote and produced the seminal Donna Summer hit single I Feel Love. The following year he released Chase, the theme from the film Midnight Express. Chase is often used on the American syndicated late night radio show Coast to Coast and was also used as an entrance theme for wrestling's group The Midnight Express. These songs achieved some chart success in the United Kingdom, the United States, and across Europe, and everywhere disco-mania was spreading. The full film score for Midnight Express won him his first Academy Award for Best Original Score in 1979. In 1979 Moroder released his album E=MC². Text on the album's cover stated that it was the first electronic live-to-digital album. He also released three albums between 1977--1979 under the name Munich Machine.

In 1984, Moroder worked with Philip Oakey of The Human League to make the album Philip Oakey & Giorgio Moroder; which was a UK singles chart hit with Together in Electric Dreams, title track to the 1984 film Electric Dreams. The same year saw him collaborating with Kajagoogoo frontman Limahl for their worldwide hit The NeverEnding Story. In 1986, Moroder collaborated with his protégé Harold Faltermeyer (of Axel F.) and lyricist Tom Whitlock to create the score for the film Top Gun (1986) which included Kenny Loggins' hit Danger Zone and Berlin's Take My Breath Away. He also wrote the theme song to the film Over the Top Meet Me Half Way which was also performed by Kenny Loggins. In 1987 Moroder produced and co-wrote Falco's song Body Next to Body.

In 1980, he composed and produced two film soundtrack albums: the first for Foxes and the second for American Gigolo. A double album of the Foxes soundtrack was released on the disco label Casablanca Records which includes Donna Summer's hit single On the Radio, which Moroder both produced and co-wrote. The Foxes soundtrack also contains a song titled Bad Love, written and performed by the singer-actress Cher and produced by Moroder. The American Gigolo soundtrack featured the Moroder-produced Blondie's Call Me, a US and UK number one hit. All singles from the album also went to number two for five weeks on the disco/dance charts. In 1982 he wrote the soundtrack of the movie Cat People, including the hit single Cat People (Putting Out Fire) featuring David Bowie.

In 1983, Moroder produced the soundtrack for the film Scarface. Notable Moroder-produced tracks included Scarface (Push It to the Limit) by Paul Engemann, Rush Rush by Debbie Harry, and She's on Fire by Amy Holland.

  • Bee Gees - You Should Be Dancing

    4:15

You Should Be Dancing is a single by the Bee Gees, from the album, Children of the World, in 1976. The single hit number one for one week on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, number one for seven weeks on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart, and in July the same year, reached number five on the UK Singles Chart. The song also peaked at number four on the Billboard R&B chart. It was this song that first launched the Bee Gees into disco stardom, although rock-oriented drums and guitars can be heard in the background. It was also the only track from the group to top the dance chart.

The song was their third Billboard Hot 100 number-one and their sixth number-one in Canada. It ended up the year as the #31 song of the year on the Hot 100. It also hit number four in Ireland. In Australia, where the brothers spent a number of years in their youth, it managed only to nick the top 20.

You Should Be Dancing is known today as the first chart-topper in which Barry Gibb uses his now-trademark falsetto (he had previously used it on the top-10 Nights on Broadway and on Fanny (Be Tender With My Love). Earlier songs, such as Jive Talkin', had Gibb use a melodic blue-eyed soul vocal style.

The song was prominently featured in the movie Saturday Night Fever and appears on its soundtrack album. Live performances of You Should Be Dancing during the 1979 Spirits Having Flown tour featured the Bee Gees' younger sibling, Andy Gibb, on backing vocals.

This song and the scene from the movie containing the song were seen and heard in the film Short Circuit. Other movies where the song is heard are Donnie Brasco and Despicable Me.

The Boston Celtics also play this song when they are about to win a basketball game accompanied by the ever popular Dancing Gino video from the television show American Bandstand. Recently, the Tampa Bay Rays have started playing the song at home games between innings.

Heaven Knows is a song by Donna Summer and the Brooklyn Dreams released at the height of her fame during the 1970s disco era. It is adapted from a studio recording from the Live and More album and became a number 4 hit for Summer in the U.S. in early 1979. Been working so hard
    I'm punching my card
    Eight hours, for what
Oh, tell me what I got.
    I've got this feeling
That time's just holding me down
    I'll hit the ceiling
Or else I'll tear up this town
    Tonight I gotta cut,

    (Chorus)
    Loose, footloose
    Kick off your Sunday shoes
    Please, Louise
Pull me off of my knees
    Jack, get back
    C'mon before we crack
    Lose your blues
    Everybody cut footloose.

    You're playing so cool
    Obeying every rule
Dig way down in your heart
    You're burning, yearning for some
    Somebody to tell you
That life ain't a passing you by
    I'm trying to tell you
It will if you don't even try
You can fly if you'd only cut

    (Chorus)
    Loose, footloose
    Kick off your Sunday shoes
    Oowhee, Marie
Shake it, shake it for me
    Whoa, Milo
    C'mon, c'mon let's go
    Lose your blues
    Everybody cut footloose.

    Cut Footloose(x4)

1ST: You got to turn me around
2ND: And put your feet on the ground
3RD: Now take a hold of your soul!
    I'm turning it

    (Chorus)
    Loose, Footloose
    Kick of your Sunday shoes
    Please, Louise
Pull me off of my knees,
    Jack, get back
    come on before we crack
    Lose your blues,
    everybody cut footloose.

    Footloose(x3)

  • Donna Summer - Dim All The Lights

    7:13

Dim All the Lights is a song by Donna Summer released as a single in the latter half of 1979. Taken from her Bad Girls album and produced by longtime collaborator Giorgio Moroder with Pete Bellotte, the track combines Summer's trademark disco beats with a more soulful/R&B-esque sound. This was the third top two single from the album and her sixth consecutive top five single in a row.

Dim All the Lights was Summer's only hit single that she wrote alone, with no co-writers. She originally intended to give the song to Rod Stewart, but changed her mind at the last minute. This song also contains the longest sustained note sung by a female artist in a top 40 song in both the US and the UK, at about sixteen seconds. Played at 45 rpm, the recording starts at a nearly perfect 60 beats per second, then shifts to a nearly perfect 120 beats per second after the doubling in tempo at about 38 seconds (short intro version) or 46 seconds (long intro version).

Dim all the lights sweet darling
Cause tonight it's all the way
    Turn up the old victrola
    Gonna dance the night away

    Love just don't come easy
    No it seldom does
When you find the perfect love
    Let it fill you up

Dim all the lights sweet darling
Cause tonight it's all the way, hey baby
    Turn up the old victrola
    Gonna dance the night away

    Love just don't come easy
    No it seldom does
When you find the perfect love
    Let it fill you up

Dim all the light sweet honey
Cause tonight it's you and me
    No need to worry darlin'
    Cause it's for eternity

    Love don't come easy
    This you know I understand
I want to be your woman
    If you'll be my man
Let yourself go freely and I'll
Show you things that you've dreamed of
    Don't think that your dreaming
    We've found the perfect love
And I'm like a cup come fill me up

Dim all the lights sweet darlin'
Cause the night is on the way, oh baby
    Turn up the old victrola
    Gonna dance the night away

    Do what you want
You can use me all you want
    Take me bottom to top
    Don't leave anything undone

No, no, no do it tonight
You know the moments are right
    Turn my brown body white
Come let's dim all the lights

Dim all the lights sweet darlin'
Cause the night is on the way, hey baby
    Turn up the old victrola
Gonna dance the night away, hey baby
Dim all the lights sweet darlin'
Dim all the lights sweet honey...

Dim all the light sweet darling
Cause tonight it's all the way
    Turn up the old victrola
    Gonna dance the night away
    Love just don't come easy
    Though it seldom does
When you find the perfect one
    Let it feel you up

Dim all the lights sweet darling
Cause tonight it's all the way
    Turn up the old victrola
    Gonna dance the night away
Dim all the light sweet darling
Cause tonight it's all the way
Hey baby turn up the old victrola
    Gonna steal your heart away

Hey baby dim all the lights sweet darling
    Dim it, dim it
    And dance the night away
Dim all the lights sweet honey
    Gonna steal your hear away

Carol Douglas - aka Carolyn Strickland and Carolyn Cooke - was born in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York. She is the daughter of Minnie Newsome, a jazz performer who has been cited as the inspiration for the Cab Calloway classic Minnie the Moocher; Douglas' father was a mortician. Sam Cooke was Douglas' cousin. At the age of 10 Douglas was a contestant and winner on the game show Name That Tune and says Ebony followed my career for the next three years.
Douglas attended the Willard May School for professional children and afterwards the Quintanos High School for young professionals alongside Gregory Hines, Bernadette Peters, Carol Lynley and Patty Duke. While in high school Douglas sang in a female trio named April May & June who were signed as a management client by Little Anthony and the Imperials.
Douglas made a one-off recording in 1963 for RCA Victor cutting the single I Don't Mind (Being Your Fool) under the name Carolyn Cooke: becoming pregnant with her first son at age 15 ended RCA's interest in promoting her.
Douglas also cut several jingles for TV commercials - [I] used to do voiceovers for Ideal Toys and General Mills with Bernadette Peters - but recalls: I never thought I would be a singer, and for most of the 1960s Douglas pursued an acting career, appearing in an episode of her classmate's The Patty Duke Show but mostly acting in theatrical productions beginning with One Tuesday Morning starring Clarice Taylor. Later Douglas understudied Jonelle Allen in the off-Broadway production of The Life of Mary McCloud Bethune and co-starred with James Earl Jones and Cicely Tyson in the play Moon on a Rainbow Shawl.

His mother, Virginia, was artistic and musically talented and gave Peter music lessons at a young age. Peter's father, Maurice, was an electronic engineer and unwittingly helped him learn the technical aspects of recording music. He always brought home the latest technological breakthrough - which in those days included CB and ham radios, the first color television and the first stereo record player.

The 1978 Record World Magazine Disco Awards named Brown Outstanding New Performer, Top New Male Vocalist and Top Male Vocalist. He was also nominated by NARAS (The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) in 1978 for a Grammy Award for best R&B Vocal Performance for the song Dance With Me. Dance With Me also included a guest vocal performance by Betty Wright.

Bessie Regina Norris (December 21, 1953 – May 10, 2020), better known by her stage name Betty Wright, was an American soul and R&B singer, songwriter and background vocalist, who rose to fame in the 1970s with hits such as Clean Up Woman and Tonight is the Night. She was also prominent in regard to the use of whistle register.

If you're feeling sad and blue
Come on and dance with me
I can make your dreams come true
Come on and dance with me

Ladies, get up off your seats
Come on and dance with me
    Gentlemen, get on your feet
Come on and dance with me

    Say the word and I'll
Summon the band with my hand
    Let your minds and
    Your bodies be free
    Dance with me

You gotta keep on making me high
You gotta keep on making me high

    If you feel that you
    Like what you see
    Dance with me

    You gotta keep dancing
    Cause it's making me high
    You gotta keep, keep dancing
    You gotta keep dancing
    Cause it's making me high
    You gotta keep, keep dancing

You gotta keep on making me high
You gotta keep on making me high
You gotta keep on making me high
You gotta keep on making me high

If you're feeling sad and blue
Come on and dance with me
I can make your dreams come true
Come on and dance with me

    Say the word and I'll
Summon the band with my hand
    Let your minds and
    Your bodies be free
    Dance with me

You gotta keep on making me high
    You gotta keep on
You gotta keep on making me high
    You gotta keep on

    Let your minds and
    Your bodies be free

  • Barry White - Cant Get Enough Of Your Love Baby.

    4:36

    Lyrics (:

    (Spoken)
    I've heard people say that
Too much of anything is not good for you, baby
    Oh no
But I don't know about that
There's many times that we've loved
We've shared love and made love
It doesn't seem to me like it's enough
There's just not enough of it
    There's just not enough
    Oh oh, babe

    (sung)
My darling I, can't get enough of your love babe
    Girl, I don't know, I don't know why
Can't get enough of your love babe
Oh, some things i can't get used to
    No matter how I try
Just like the more you give, the more I want
    And baby, that's no lie
    Oh no, babe

Tell me, what can I say?
    What am I gonna do?
How should I feel when everything is you?
What kind of love is this that you're givin' me?
Is it in your kiss or just because you're sweet?

Girl, all I know is every time you're here
    I feel the change
    Somethin' moves
    I scream your name
    Do whatcha got to do

Darling, I, can't get enough of your love babe
    Girl, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know why
I can't get enough of your love babe
    Oh no, babe

Girl, if only I could make you see
    And make you understand
Girl, your love for me is all I need
And more than I can stand
    Oh well, babe

How can I explain all the things I feel?
    You've given me so much
    Girl, you're so unreal
    Still I keep loving you
    More and more each time
Girl, what am I gonna do
    Because you blow my mind

I get the same old feelin' every time you're here
    I feel the change
    Somethin' moves
    I scream your name
    Do whatcha got to do

Darling, I, can't get enough of your love babe
    Oh no, babe

    (Spoken)
Baby, let me take all of my life to find you
But you can believe it's gonna take the rest of ny life to keep you

    (sung)
    Oh no, babe
My darling I, can't get enough of your love babe
    Yeah, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know why
Can't get enough of your love babe
Oh my darling I, can't get enough of your love babe
    Oh babe
    I don't know, I don't know, I don't know why
I can't get enough of your love babe
    Oh babe

    Lyrics:

    For so long
You and me been finding each other for so long
And the feeling that I feel for you is more then strong, girl
    Take it from me
If you give a little more then you're asking for
Your love will turn the key
    Darling mine
I would wait forever for those lips of wine
Build my world around you, darling
    This love will shine girl
    Watch it and see
If you give a little more then you're asking for
Your love will turn the key

I, I just want to be your everything
Open up the heaven in your heart and let me be
The things you are to me and not some puppet on a string
Oh, if I stay here without you, darling, I will die
I want you laying in the love I have to bring
I'd do anything to be your everything

    Darling for so long
You and me been finding each other for so long
And the feeling that I feel for you is more then strong girl
    Take it from me
If you give a little more then you're asking for
Your love will turn the key

    I Will Survive
At first I was afraid I was petrified.
Kept thinking I could never live without you by my side.
But then I spent so many nights
Thinking how you did me wrong.
    And I grew strong!
And I learned how to get along!
So now you're back from out of space.
I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face.

I should have changed that stupid lock!
I should have made you leave your key!
If I had known for just one second you'd be back to bother me.

Go on now, go, walk out that door!
    Just turn around now‚
cause you're not welcome any more.
Weren't you the one who tried to hurt (crush) me with goodbye?

    Did I crumble
Did I lay down and die
Oh no, not I! I will survive!
Oh and as long as I know how to love I know I stay alive.
I've got all my life to live, I've got all my love to give.
    And I'll survive!
    I will survive! Hey, hey.

It took all the strength I had not to fall apart.
Kept tryin' hard to mend the pieces of my broken heart!
And I spent oh so many nights
just feeling sorry for myself. I used to cry!
But now I hold my head up high.
And you see me somebody new!
I'm not that chained-up little person still in love with you.

And so you feel like droppin' in,
and just expect me to be free,
now I'm saving all my loving for someone who is loving me!

    Go on now...

    4:08

You're The One That I Want (From “Grease”) by John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John

    Lyrics:
    I got chills
    They're multiplying
    And I'm losing control
    Cause the power you're supplying
    It's electrifying!
    You better shape up
    Cause I need a man
And my heart is set on you
    You better shape up
    You better understand
To my heart I must be true
    Nothing left
Nothing left for me to do
You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
    Oh, honey
    The one that I want
You are the one I want
    Oh, honey
    The one that I want
You are the one I want
    Oh, the one I need
    Oh, yes indeed
    If you're filled
    With affection
    You're to shy to convey
    Better take my direction
    Feel your way
    I better shape up
    Cause you need a man
    I need a man
    Who can keep me satisfied
    I better shape up
    If I'm gonna prove
    You better prove
    That my faith is justified
    Are you sure
Yes I'm sure down deep inside
You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
    Oh, honey
    The one that I want
You are the one I want
    Oh, honey
    The one that I want
You are the one I want
    Oh, the one I need
    Oh, yes indeed
You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
    Oh, honey
    The one that I want
You are the one I want
    Oh, honey
    The one that I want
You are the one I want
    Oh, the one I need
    Oh, yes indeed

From the album Thriller, released November 30, 1982
    Released as a single January 2, 1983

    THE SHORT FILM
    Director: Steve Barron
Primary Production Location: Los Angeles, California

Michael Jackson's short film for Billie Jean was the first of three short films produced for recordings from Thriller, which continues its reign as the biggest selling album of all time with worldwide sales in excess of 105 million as of June 1, 2016 and in December, 2015 became the first ever album to be awarded triple diamond status by the RIAA for US sales alone. The Billie Jean single reached No. 1 in 10 countries in the spring of 1983, including seven consecutive weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 - becoming the second-highest selling single in America that same year.

Billie Jean was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America on April 4, 1983, and Platinum on February 4, 1989. The song won two Grammy Awards for Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance - Male, as well as an American Music Award for Favorite Single - Pop/Rock and was also named the Single of the Year on The Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics' poll in 1983.

The short film featured a paparazzo attempting to photograph Jackson as he danced through an urban landscape. A specially created set featured steps and sidewalk tiles that lit up underneath Michael's feet. It is here that fans first saw some of Michael's best-known dance moves, such as spinning and landing on his toes. Many of Michael's steps and mannerisms in the video would become forever associated with The King of Pop.

[W]hen the chorus hit.he sprung into this dance that was unlike anything I'd ever seen, director Steve Barron recounted of Jackson's choreography in the video. It was just extraordinary, instinctive. He pulled it all together and turned it into what we saw.The camera literally steamed up, the eyepiece steamed up, because of my heat from what I was seeing. Barron also recalled the crew breaking into spontaneous applause after Michael finished dancing.

The Billie Jean short film made history as the first video by a black artist to be played in heavy rotation on MTV, then in its second year. In 1992, the short film was inducted into the Music Video Producers Hall of Fame. MTV ranked Billie Jean as the 35th greatest music video of all time in 1999, one of three entries of Jackson's on the chart alongside Thriller and Beat It.

  • WALTER MURPHY- A Fifth of Beethoven

    5:36

Walter Anthony Murphy, Jr. (born December 19, 1952) is an American instrumentalist, songwriter, and arranger who rose to cult status with the hit instrumental A Fifth of Beethoven, a disco adaptation of some passages of the first movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, in 1976, when disco was at the height of its popularity.

Born and raised in Manhattan, Murphy attended the Manhattan School of Music and studied jazz and classical music. Upon graduation, Murphy served as an arranger for Doc Severinsen and the Tonight Show Band. In the early 1970s, Murphy wrote jingle music for television advertising and acted as the frontman of WAM, a soul-R&B band who frequently performed in New Rochelle.

During the 1970s, Murphy developed interest in adapting classical music into disco, and mailed a demo tape to various record labels in New York. Although response was unimpressive, a rendition of Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 In 'C' Minor generated interest amongst the owner of Private Stock Records, Larry Uttal. Murphy agreed to produce the song under contract and recorded it in 1976, creatively dubbing it A Fifth of Beethoven. The record was credited towards Walter Murphy & The Big Apple Band upon encouragement from the company, who believed it would become a hit if credited towards a group rather than an individual. However, two days following the record's release, Private Stock discovered the existence of another Big Apple Band; the record was later re-released and credited towards The Walter Murphy Band before dropping the tradition altogether.

The song was a smash hit, and reached number 80 on the Hot 100 on May 29, 1976, eventually reaching number 1 within nineteen weeks, where it stayed for one week. An album under the same name was released later during the year; the album notably featured a rendition of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee entitled Flight '76, which reached number 44 on the Hot 100. He released four albums within the following six years, and in 1982, released his final single, a medley of Themes From E.T. (The Extra-Terrestrial) which climbed to number 47 on the Hot 100.

You would cry too if it happened to you.

Judy and Johnny just walked thru' the door,
like a queen with her king.
    Oh, what a birthday surprise,
    Judy's wearing his ring.

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to,
cry if I want to, cry if I want to.
You would cry too if it happened to you.

    7:22

The Boss is a 1979 soul/disco song written and produced by Ashford & Simpson and recorded by singer Diana Ross, who released it as a single on the Motown label. Background vocals by Nickolas Ashford, Valerie Simpson, Maxine and Julia Waters. Produced and written by Ashford & Simpson.

    Fancy me
    Thought I had my degree
    In life and how love
    Ought to be a run

I had a one step plan to prove it
Guide in my pocket for fools
    Folly and fun
Love had to show me one thing

I was so right, so right
Thought I could turn emotion, on and off
I was so sure, so sure
    But love taught me
Who was, who was, who was the boss

    Id defy
    Anyone who claimed that I
    Didn't control
    Whatever moved in my soul

    I could tempt, touch, delight
Just because you fell for me
    Why should I feel uptight
Love had to show me one thing

I was so right, so right
Thought I could turn emotion, on and off
I was so sure, I was so, so sure
    But love taught me
Taught me who was, who was, the boss

    Love taught me, taught me
    Taught me, taught me

I was so right, so right
Thought I could turn emotion, on and off
I was so sure, so sure
    But love taught me
Taught me who was, who was, the boss

    So right
Thought I could turn emotion, on and off
I was so sure, so sure
    But love taught me

I was so right, so right
Thought I could turn emotion, on and off
    I was so sure, ooh
    But love taught me
Taught me who was, who was, the boss
    Love taught me

    So right
Thought I could turn emotion, on and off
I was so sure, so sure
    But love taught me
Taught me who was, who was, the boss

Love taught me who was the boss
Love taught me who was the boss
Love taught me, love taught me
Love taught me who was the boss
